This is the third Fairmont hotel I've stayed in Alberta (I've stayed in Fairmont, Banff twice and once in Fairmont Lake Louise) We stayed for one night due to a friend's wedding in the same hotel. I was not truly impressed by how their Front Desk in handling queries like mine. I had repeatedly called if we can do an early check-in due to the wedding and the answer was always the same - it’s not guaranteed. While I do understand that it’s not guaranteed - I don’t understand why they can’t say, just come and we'll accommodate you in every way we can, which is Customer Service-bar none. They should have just said replied in a positive way over the phone and not leave us hanging that should we go there early or not? As it is, it left a bad impression that they cannot deliver good customer service although they did deliver by accommodating us early. Food – I didn’t like the food during the wedding reception. Prime beef was served which was too salty for me – didn’t even eat half of it. Their beet salad didn’t taste good either and their dessert was nothing to be desired. As this is a 5-star hotel, there is no complaint regarding the room size or amenities in the room.

The Fairmont Palliser is one of the best places in the city to feel like royalty and get pampered. From the moment you hand off your keys to the valet you can be assured you are in good hands. No request is too much and they really go above and beyond to keep their guests happy. I will always choose the Fairmont as my hotel of choice.

The nicest part of our stay was the dinner we had at the Hawthorn Dining Room. The food was delicious and our server was outstanding. From that point on, our 2 night stay was very disappointing. The freight trains run by the back of the hotel all night long which woke us up repeatedly. The breakfast we were encouraged to upgrade to on the top floor is an unimaginative, cold and a tasteless poor excuse for a buffet. $60 per person? We were so disappointed that we immediately asked for our money back and cancelled the second morning of eating there. Honestly, Tim Horton's would be better than that slop. We moved to a second room at the front of the hotel to escape the train noise and it was a broom closet. What was meant to be a romantic weekend of relaxation came up woefully short and the hotel takes the brunt of the blame. I will never stay there again. Hotel Arts is so much better in so many ways.

The Fairmont Palliser provides a relaxing reprieve from the everyday. The room was clean and comfortable providing us with quiet downtime. The chairs in the room are very comfortable for enjoying a cup of coffee and some reading. The convention centre is right there as are several excellent restaurants. The staff are friendly, professional and helpful. The breakfast in the Hawthorn was also very good
