We stayed at Club Amigo Atlantico from September 20th to October 1st. We have been there before (2016) and we enjoyed our return trip. It was great to see many of the workers we met the first time. Food: I found it to be the same options almost everyday. But there was always plenty to choose from and we were never hungry. The snack bar didn’t have any fries. But the banana chips were good. They had sandwiches, hamburgers. All was good. I found it hard to find bottles of water on the resort though. But the restaurants on the beach always had some. We did eat at El Ancla which is just up the beach from the hotel. We walked there for lunch. It was delicious. I recommend this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed. Great menu options and prices are very good. Beach: beach was good. Water was nice. It was cloudy but it had rained almost every night we were there. Pool: the main pool by the lobby was closed for renovations/repairs for the time we were there. But there were 3 other pools to choose from. Never had issues with seating. Lots of chairs. Room: we stayed in the villas. Room 1106. It was clean. Spacious. We did have tiny ants in the bathroom by the sink. Everyday either we or the maid would get rid of them but they’d be back the next day. We did see one pretty big cockroach in the bathroom our first night. But none after that. But I’ve seen them at 5 star resorts I’ve stayed at also. And let’s not forget the tarantula outside our door the one night. Yikes! I still believe it came out of it’s hiding spot in the soil where the plants are around the buildings. The workers had cut down the plants around our room and that night was when we saw it. We took the trip to a local farm and Indian village. I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. It was nice to talk to the locals and see their way of life. There is also a bus that will take you to Holguin. For $15 cuc you get a tour of the city. We’ve done this excursion a few times and enjoy it every time we go. All in all I would recommend this resort. The staff are amazing and you leave feeling like you’re leaving behind family. We will be back :)

I went Sept again which is my favorite time to go. Nice and quiet. Not everything is open but what is available is more than enough. Staff despite 16 hrs. shifts (gas shortage so not enough worker buses) were still smiling and happy to help you. This is what always amazes me about this place. They work so hard, lots of ongoing issues they have to deal with. But great service all the time! Every time I go the hotel is working hard on renovations to help improve the look and feel of the hotel. Some complain, but in the long run it is for our benefit. A few shortages while I was there at the beginning, chicken among them which is my go-to food. But by day three was back in stock and I never went hungry. Other shortages were pizza and sometimes buns at 24 hr. snack bar. But it was hit and miss each day and always somewhere else to get food. “Benny’s” for lunch was great, but more like a diner. Was so full after that really should not have eaten again. Amazing soup every day. No shortages of drinks except dark rum one very late night (or rather early morning) But luckily, I was given a free bottle in my room, so my travel buddy got what she wanted to drink. If they run out of something, there is always a way and it really should not spoil your vacation. There is a new patio bar on the fourth floor 5PM-10PM I believe. It is a must see and beautiful views! My room spotless, thank you again Elizabeth! I had booked a Villa and it was great. Check in smooth and front desk always happy to help. Thank you, Elias and all the girls, I can thank many each trip; but they all know who they are. This hotel may be old, but they are working hard to renovate all the time. It is clean, the friendliest of the Caribbean, and the best value for what you are paying. Do your research on the many different FB pages, and not the tour operator sites. Tour operators do not change what is available to you low vs high season and I can see why people may give bad reviews. This has been going on for many years and hotel is very upfront on what is open and not, to guests each season. The new 5 star going up next door will face all the exact same shortages going on at any moment in Cuba once it opens. Don’t kid yourself. Club Amigo will always be best value for your money

This is our favourite resort. We have been there at least 4 or 5.times and are returning in 2 weeks. I have sent an email and wondered if anyone knows the turn around for a response. The people are amazing and the food is better than average for Cuba. We upgrade to a Villa.

Worst “hotel” ever, food was terrible, ac didn’t work on one of my friends room, we ask for water and we got tap water that tasted like dirt I even got sick of my stomach, we made reservations for 4 days only stay 1 day because of how awful it was, I have been at club amigo guardalavaca before and had a great experience but this time was the worst time ever, my husband ask for extra cheese on his spaghetti and he was told he was only allowed to have 2 teaspoon, really? At a all inclusive hotel, worst day of my vacation.
