My husband and I researched the best places to stay in Maui for our 15 year anniversary. The Andaz had all of the amenities and accommodations we were looking for. We saw turtles from the beach every single day! Amazing trip, we’ll be back for sure!

My husband and I just spent 6 nights at the Andaz Wailea and had the most incredible time. The property is absolutely stunning, the service was incredible, and all of the food we had was delicious. One of my top hotel stays ever!

My husband and I spend about 2 months each year in Hawaii and have been traveling here for 25 years. We've stayed several places on Maui over the years, most frequently, The Four Seasons in Wailea. During our stay this Thanksgiving, we decided to try somewhere new and chose The Andaz. Positives: 1. From check in to poolside to valet, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. 2. The design of the hotel, including the infinity pools, is very chic and stylish. 3. The snorkeling off the beach is the best we’ve had of any of the hotels we’ve stayed at in Wailea. 4. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are very sound proof. 5. You can get an ocean view room for the price of a garden view room at the Four Seasons. Wish we knew ahead of time: 1. This hotel caters to millennials and has a very different vibe from the Four Seasons or the Fairmont. While the staff is friendly, service doesn’t compare to the Four Seasons. This is a trendy resort NOT a luxury resort. 2. Drinks and food are more expensive than the Four Seasons and the Fairmont. $19 for a margarita and $25 for a burger at the pool. Negatives: 1. The floors and pathways are filthy. Our feet were black just walking from the pools back to our chairs. The winding walkway from down to the beach was even dirtier. Clearly, nothing has been swept or washed down in a long time. 2. We paid $300 for a cabana one day and received terrible service. The people around the pool with regular chairs had better service. Also, the only perk you get with the cabana is a pitcher of water. No juice or snacks like at other resorts. It took 2 hours for the pool attendant to bring us the pitcher of water after we got to the cabana. 3. Pool towels and some of the bathroom towels are old and stained. Overall, we aren’t upset we tried a new resort, however, we will return to the Four Seasons for our next stay. If you are in your 30’s or early 40’s and want to stay somewhere trendy, this could be a good choice.

The Andaz is an amazing property! My family had 3 rooms and stayed the week of Thanksgiving. The property is new and modern. Beautiful pools and landscaping surround all settings. The breakfast buffet was the best we've had and all restaurants on property were fantastic. Staff was friendly and helpful and we look forward to returning!

Andaz Maui Pros The views, they are amazing. We stayed on the 7th floor and had an amazing 180 degree view of the ocean and unparalleled viewing of the sunset as the hotel faces directly west. The views from the hotel lobby and Ka’ana kitchen are excellent as well. The cascading infinity pools are a very cool element visually. The beach is easily accessible and busy but not crowded, they’ll set up chairs for you from a stand right at the beach access and if you walk farther down there’s an access that goes up to a stand where you can get snorkel gear and other water accessories which are included in the resort fee. You can walk a long distance north on the beach as it’s not blocked by cliffs for a long way and is very scenic. The beach the Andaz is on is called Mokapu beach, and there’s some good snorkeling on a reef to the left (facing the ocean), but it’s a fair swim out to get there. There is a much easier and more accessible reef on the beach just a few minutes walk to the south of the Andaz, Ulua beach. The reef is very close to the shore on the right side, and the waves are blunted by the reef so it’s easier to get in. I saw at least thirty different fish species as well as an eel and my companions saw a large sea turtle. Lots of hard coral as well. Truly the highlight of our trip and we went every day. The design. The Andaz stands out from other hotels in the area with its striking modern design which I personally much prefer. If you are on social media it’s basically made to make all your friends jealous. Do it. Be that person. Post a ton. The pools. There are multiple infinity pools that are beautiful with plenty of chairs. They all have a great ocean view except the adult pool. The adult only pool is on the north side of the hotel, a bit hidden, and very peaceful. On the north wing of the hotel take the elevator to the second floor and turn left, you’ll see it. That’s where the suites are also that open their patios directly onto a pool which is kind of neat. In all pools they have service with a good menu and drinks. The shower. It’s cool, and huge. It has funky doors on the exterior that open to the bedroom and has floor to ceiling windows so you can look out on the ocean as you shower. It’s very unusual and not something you’d likely have at home so is transporting in a way; really makes you feel like this ain’t the ordinary if you know what I mean. That’s what good design is supposed to do. The shower also however, appears in the cons for reasons that will become apparent. Access to the Wailea beach path. This is a path that runs south from the Andaz past the Four Seasons and it has really incredible views and you can use it to walk to other restaurants at the other resorts, big plus as we hate hate driving. They have a courtesy car that works great though and will take you within a one mile radius and pick you up when you call or text when you are finished. You can easily stay here and not rent a car if you don’t want to. The WiFi. Decent speed. Tested at 12 Mbps and yes I checked. Need to upload all those photos now don’t I. Andaz Maui Cons The room sizes. This applies only to the guest rooms as the suites and obviously the villas are larger. Regular guest rooms are on the small size and get cluttered very easily. It takes constant tidying and organizing to keep the space from looking like a clothing bomb went off inside. To this end the closet in the bathroom is very helpful but we still didn’t have enough room to store our suitcases out of the way. We were in a two queen room, and the beds were small. We measured their dimensions using an app, and they measured as full mattresses, not the standard size queen. You could still fit two adults in one, but I personally felt very cramped. This was a big negative for me and in the future I would get two adjoining rooms with at least one king instead of one room with two beds for three people. Not a dealbreaker though. The shower. So I said one side is glass, well the other consists of two openings, one is the entry. The other—for reasons I cannot fathom—goes floor to ceiling from the shower controls across what is part of the vanity on the other side. Both openings have a shower curtain. So here you are all ‘la la la this is awesome I’m in a fantasyland” then you get out and realize when you got in and accidentally turned on the shower wand first instead of the rainfall head, it was pointing from its holder, positioned just exactly where the gap is between the shower curtain and the shower wall, straight shot into the rest of the bathroom and entry. And now alllllll the stuff you had on the bathroom vanity, like pill bottles say, is now covered in water. This is terrible design. Put a solid wall there Andaz, seriously. Glass it in or something. The food. It wasn’t terrible, but we ate at all restaurants onsite and were not impressed. It’s not special and it’s expensive for not special. Also not a dealbreaker though, and food is highly subjective. All in all we would definitely visit again and would highly recommend the Andaz for the beach, the views, and ambiance alone.
