I have mixed feelings about this property. So, I thought I'd make a list of pros and cons: Pros: ~ Beautiful property ~ Rooms and facilities modern and clean (which I appreciate). ~ Small refrigerator with drinks in the room. I am not sure I would keep perishable items in this refrigerator but you can put your own drinks, etc. in the refrigerator to keep them cool. ~ Mattress was comfortable. ~ Trees around the property made for nice shade opportunities. ~ Pool was relaxing and beautiful -- mixed levels of cleanliness in the water from the eye's perspective though. Sometimes clear and sometimes murky. May not be a cleanliness issue at all. We just noticed how the pool looked different on different days. ~ Staff was pleasant. ~ Loved the shower, looking out glass doors to bay. ~ Loved the large windows, giving amazing views, and yet still providing privacy for each individual room. ~ Patio was large and inviting. ~ Free sunscreen and bug spray were great! ~ Loved the show the monkeys put on throughout the day while hanging out at the pool level (both me and the monkeys). My favorite part! Cons: ~ Staff - While staff was pleasant, I would not say exceptional in their professionalism/knowledge. There seemed to be a communication issue. There were multiple times I received different answers to the same question, depending on who was asked. While they technically "spoke" English, their understanding of English seemed inadequate at times. You were never quite sure if they understood what you were asking of them and were sometimes met with a response that had nothing to do with what you requested. So you were left with an unsettled feeling. We needed to confirm a couple of times on the issues that mattered, i.e., transportation to the airport. ~ Hills and steps - This added to the charm but it was also logistically difficult. While there are golf carts provided, you need to request one and wait for it to arrive, even if you are only going a short distance. The staff who drove these carts were kind and helpful. So, if you have any kind of mobility issue, this should be considered. ~ Steps to the beach are steep and there is no restroom at the bottom so if you want to hang out there, you need to walk those steps down and then up/down again for anything you may need at the top. For this reason, we spent our time exclusively at the pool. ~ The rooms are dark. And the modern lighting system was a little challenging to figure out. Helpful Tips: I believe if you stay in Buildings 5 and 6, you will be on lower levels, making the steps fewer to get to most places on the property. In light of the natural setting, i.e., trees, etc., I wonder if you have good views on those lower levels? Something to ask if this is important to you. The beds did not have sheets on them. There is the mattress fitted sheet and then the comforter. We asked for a sheet to be put on our bed and they accommodated us. If you are looking for an inexpensive breakfast (smoothies, wraps, etc.), there is a convenience store that has a little bit of everything at the marina. There is a path at the water level that will take you there. Order the coconut-crusted french toast with a side of potatoes through room service -- amazing! You need those salted potatoes (comes with a salsa on the side) to cut the sweetness of the french toast! Restaurants: The restaurants on the property were not great. I did get a pretty good steak, hamburger (though cooking was inconsistent each time) and a Caesar chicken wrap. The french fries are AMAZING! I could eat these all day long! These menu items were all at Rio Bhongo. Service was slow but since it is on the property and offered the most in terms of breakfast/lunch/dinner/poolside options, we ate here several times. Our favorite restaurants in the area but off the property were The Dive and the Pesce at Four Seasons. There is a complimentary shuttle that will take you to each. Gift Shop: Crazy expensive! It would be wise to make sure you bring in snacks and drinks for your enjoyment and not make those kinds of purchases in the gift shop. Two drinks (sparkling waters), a chocolate bar and a piece of candy were $27. On everything purchased from gift shop items to restaurant food, there is a 10% service charge and a 13% tax (IVA). When we asked, it would seem that the 10% was like a tip for the staff. To tip or not to tip -- that was the perpetual question. There is no way to know if they expect more than 10% or if that's the tip they just have built in to the total. Seeing Costa Rica: This resort is isolated which is great if that is what you desire. However, if you want to get a feel for Costa Rica as a country, you will not get that here. You are fairly close to the airport (30 minutes) but you just can't get to anywhere from here easily. So, I guess this is neither a pro nor a con, just something to consider.

This resort is absolutely amazing! The resort itself is beautiful and unique, and sits on a gorgeous area of Costa Rica. The food and drinks are out of this world, and it’s noticeable that everything is made fresh. The servers and mixologists are extremely friendly and make sure you don’t lift a finger while on vacation. There are also great activities available. Would go back again in a heartbeat!

This trip was like a second honeymoon! When we arrived, we were greeted with cold towels and a wonderful pineapple mint drink. Check in was very easy - like they were waiting for us. This resort is very beautiful and we totally enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The entire staff was friendly and knew our names after the first few hours. It felt like we were with family. Even the hotel manager came out to welcome us. The rooms were clean and comfortable with snacks and soft drinks replaced on a daily basis at no extra charge. The setting was a little bit hilly but there were always golf carts offering to drive us if we didn't feel like walking. The restaurants were outdoors with beautiful views, good food, and friendly staff. We saw a lot of monkeys and iguanas. If you like nature and natural beauty, the Andaz is an excellent choice! I would give it a 10 if I could.

My stay was truly fabulous. The property is impeccably maintained with lush grounds, beautiful pools and open air restaurants. The food and fresh seafood were high quality. The location is isolated but close enough to get to area attractions, and the resort is quiet with the ability to enjoy the water and the surroundings. The staff is extremely attentive and very friendly. The rooms were spacious and I really enjoyed the walk in shower that can open onto the balcony. I cannot wait to return!
