I cannot describe enough how amazing this hotel is! I've stayed here many times and I love every single time. The staff is SO AMAZING! Everywhere you walk- there is always staff cleaning, helping you, or offering food/drinks. The rooms are very true 'Mexico' style and extremely clean. I love being on the water and the Palapas on the beach, away from the beach vendors if you'd like more peace and quiet.

The good- I really would like to give this hotel 4 stars and I am very torn. We had a wonderful visit and the staff are great. The grounds are lovely and kept very clean. It was off season so it was not overly crowded which was nice. We had a third floor beautiful ocean view overlooking a palm tree. It was a special anniversary for us and we loved Mazatlán and really enjoyed the hotel. The location is great and we felt very safe walking in town. We loved our pulmonia (taxi) tour of old Mazatlán with Hector ( had taco outside the hotel) who was amazing! The Mexico show at the hotel was outstanding! Dancing, Mariachi singing and “hula hooping.” The Bad- Unfortunately the bathroom in our room had mold all along the edges and the door. The toilet was old and looked dirty inside. My first night I got under the covers and the underside had dirt on it. Yuk! The cleaning staff responded immediately and apologized and changed the cover. The rest of the room was fine. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Service at the hotel was very good and staff were lovely. Bottom line, they need to find a way to renovate the bathrooms. The hotel gives great value for the money so I realize it can be a challenge. But mold is not acceptable. I told a staff member about it when we were leaving and she told me, “Yes, I know. All the bathrooms are like that. We get a lot of complaints about them.” FOOD- was better than expected. we didn’t expect a lot for the very reasonable cost and planned to eat out several dinners which we did. Breakfast was actually delicious. The dinner buffet had enough choices to find some things we liked. The tacos and tortillas were yummy-A bit hard to find non red meat choices but I expected that. Drinks- not great but I eventually found a way to make my own drinks by ordering the separate parts. Bartenders were very willing to give us what we wanted Dinner at Georgina’s was very disappointing in terms of food and service. I was not pleased with the way the manager responded when I asked about a drink that was listed as one of the liquors ( we drank it at the bar). He was rather abrupt telling me it wasn’t part of the package. I would not recommend this restaurant. The buffet was better. Eating out was affordable and better. We actually really loved the setting and Mazatlán and would like to go back. I really hope the mold issue gets addressed because it’s a great hotel otherwise for the money. A special thank you to Humberto at the dining room who helped us explain my drink want to the bartender. He was great!

    Overpriced Day pass

We purchased a day pass for this hotel because it was not offered by the cruise lines and would be far away from everyone. The day pass was very pricey but included drinks and lunch. The beach area and pools were very nice. I was stung by a jellyfish and staff there treated the sting and removed the tentacles. There were little guys on the beach also included. Lots of activities on the beach but we had to haggle for the best prices on the parasailing and boogie boards. CONSTANTLY had people walking up to us trying to sell us junk. When that would happen too much we’d leave to the pools.

A good option for all kind of people

We went to the Hotel Playa Mazatlan on august and we spent there 4 days. The hotel is really well situated: is basically built on the sand! Our seaside room was big, clean and ventilated. We decided to put the alarm at 6:30am every day to see the sunrise on the ocean, it was such a gorgeous view! At this time in the morning we always found the sand very clean because the staff had already swept it. One aspect that they could improve is the beach accommodation: there were palapas, chairs, loungers and tables but they were dirty because many people used it in an improperly way. Perhaps at the weekend we were at the hotel, it might have been more people than usual so they might not have got the control of everything. However, we spent all the day at the beach and we enjoyed it a lot. The ocean currents and waves weren’t too strong so we took many swims in the sea during the day until the sunset time. Regarding the food services: we payed for the all-inclusive service so we had open access to all the restaurants and bar of the hotel. We loved the Mexican restaurant; the food was like home made and the flavors were authentic. The buffet for breakfast had a lot of different dishes: fresh fruits, croissant, tortillas, pozole, French toast, coffee refill and so on. It was basically a lunch but at 7 in the morning…From 10 am we asked for cocktails and beer, they were quite good and I drunk the best Margarita I’ve ever had. However, the last night we decided to eat in a restaurant outside the hotel because we realized that we hadn’t been eating fish dishes until that day, because they were not offered into the menus! So, we went to a restaurant near the hotel, with good reviews on internet and we had a good and tasty dinner there. The Hotel also offer a diversity of activities, such as relaxing massages, Mexican shows, gym, boat tours to a near island, tours to the city downtown and playing areas for children. In conclusion we highly recommend the Hotel Playa Mazatlan for all kind of Family, couple or friends’ vacation since their offer can be attractive to all kind of budgets and interests.

I've been coming here with my family for the last 6 years and I have finally decided to write a review of the hotel. We love this place and we have told our friends and family about it and they too have come and spent vacations here and they too love it and will continue to book vacations here. I want to be honest here, this in no new hotel with the gleaming lobby, the fruit cut and shaped into animals, the infinity pool made for vacuous selfies. No, this is a more honest hotel that caters to Canadians, Americans, and Mexicans equally. If your thing is to jet into a hotel experience where everyone speaks english perfectly and all the guests look like you, then perhaps you need to go somewhere else. What makes this hotel so good? It feels real, like they are trying to give some thing good to you. It's a big hotel but it feels like a family run business (it is!) and it is not a cookie cutter hotel as it is not part of a chain but a stand-alone entity. The people who work here are excellent as is the management who do a good job of listening and responding to concerns. I would like to single out some excellent service providers over the last few years: Luis Crespo, Leonardo Gonzales, and Erik (forgot last name) among many others. Perhaps later I will post another review with some hints, tips, and other information on the hotel and its environs.
