A matter of perspective

DaveLondoner on Apr 11, 2024

I have stayed here three times previously. In all honesty it is not what it used to be. The grand aspect of the whole place has been lost. Has dropped in standards. House wine (inc) etc all cheaper and not as good. Mini bar has changed , less variety and also very rarely refilled I could go on but I won’t. Genuinely a decent holiday. Good food. Great staff. Major changes as a way of making money. The main entertainment used to be in the big auditorium building but that is now sold for paid shows, meaning the lobby is now used for evening entertainment. It is not great. The paid shows are also awful. Told by several guests. The concierges push the Iberostar club quite hard and offer you free tickets to these shows. The hard sell is off putting. dress codes being relaxed and also ignored has ruined it for me. I think I am unfortunate to have been here previously, before the changes, when it was better I won’t be returning. Sadly

Great time, great location, great property, and most importantly fantastic staff.

Eddie C on Apr 09, 2024

I wanted to take the time to write a review on my wife and I’s experience on our recent visit the Iberostar Grand Paraiso. I would remiss if I didn’t mention that I generally don’t do reviews, however the staff and our experience over the five days we stayed warrant thanks and praise. From the minute we arrived and checked in with Victor, everything was handled professionally and kindly. We paid for an upgraded room and it was worth every penny. Our check in experience and property orientation was handled by Sergio and Richardo, they were great. I would recommend that the resort scale back their attempts to persuade guests to attend the time share breakfast presentation. We were bombarded from all angles for the first three days. It got a little old. Otherwise, simply put, the service was above exceptional. Flawless. I really appreciate the efforts put forth by the entire staff to make our stay unforgettable. We stayed in building 71. Luis and Anna were two butlers that assisted us with various things and should be praised by management. Also of note is Alex. He was our concierge from time to time and was great. He was a pleasure to talk with and was very kind and helpful. We met two of the Star Friends, Carlos and Viridiana, while doing a tequila tasting with Pablo, the sommelier. Carlos and Viridiana were so friendly and entertaining. It was a pleasure talking with them at the pool and lobby bar at night. Always engaging and making sure we were having a great time. Dario was working the lobby bar at night as we always had a great time, never an empty glass and always a quality cocktail. Also, just a pleasure to chat with. I wanted to take the time to say a special thanks to Pablo, Daniel, and Antonio. Pablo is one of the sommeliers. He was extremely knowledgable. We shared some high quality tequila and mezcal. Some of my most memorable times at the resort. Lastly Daniel and Antonio, the day time bartenders at the lobby bar. Professional, friendly, and great bartenders. Quite often I would walk from the pool just to visit and get a drink from the lobby bar because of them. This list is not inclusive as there were many servers, housekeeping professionals, spa employees and others that worked very hard to make our experience memorable. Make no mistake, the food, rooms, grounds, pool, beach etc exceeded expectations, but the staff is second to none. The staff is what makes this place a special location to visit. We never have vacationed in the same location twice. We will be repeat guests here. I hope management appreciates and acknowledges the great folks they have working for them. If I had one improvement to offer…my wife had a massage on the beach. The massage was great as was the massage therapist, however there was grounds keeping activities going on with small engines running. She mentioned that it wasn’t as relaxing as she had hoped. The setting was perfect, but she would have preferred to listen to the sounds of the beach. -Eddie and Amy

Travel R (London, United Kingdom) on Apr 08, 2024

The most amazing tropical break in Mexico. Full of nature, wildlife, faultless food, wonderful staff and huge resort with the feeling of space and comfort. We had an amazing time here. Whether you are a couple or a family or travelling solo this resort has something for everyone. It is absolutely huge, very well maintained and has extremely considerate staff. We didn’t want to leave!

Enjoyable stay with some negatives

Eric G on Apr 07, 2024

We stayed at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso for sixteen nights in March. We vacation for at least two weeks every spring and have been at a lot of properties to compare this resort too. The grounds are very impressive and well maintained. The staff keep the resort very clean. Every staff member was very friendly and went the extra mile to help you. The resorts architecture is quite stunning and is among the best we have ever seen. Staff were working on painting and doing repairs every day. The beach was quite nice and was kept clean. We had an Oceanfront Butler suite, and the room was great. The view from our balcony was incredible and you could always hear the waves crashing on the beach which made it very relaxing. The maids were great, and they did a turndown service every night. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Food at all five of the a la carte restaurants and was excellent. Lunch at La Brisa, which is close to the beach, was very good. Meus at all off the restaurants were weighted very heavily towards sea food, which we do not eat. We did not, however have any issues finding alternatives. We did try two restaurants at the other four resorts in the complex, however the food quality was not to our liking. We only tried the buffet for breakfast and some lunches, and the food and variety were fine. Service at the a la carte restaurants was hit and miss. When it was good it was excellent and when it was poor it was terrible. We found this to be very evident at the French restaurant. Unfortunately, at La Brisa for lunches, service for the most part was terrible. When he noticed there was a problem the head waiter did resolve the issue. The website states “Your butler will make you feel at home 24 hours a day. He or she will show you to your suite, help you unpack your luggage, and customize your pillow, your aromatherapy essence, and your minibar service. He or she can draw a relaxing bath for you or attend to your laundry or shoe-shining needs.” Unfortunately, this is not the case. The two butlers each work alternating eight-hour shifts. We did not see our butler during the check in process or the first night. We saw him in the downstairs lobby the next morning. There was no way of reaching our butler electronically, which meant that we had to go to the lobby in our building to make any requests. Our primary butler was Luis, and he made all our dinner reservations and resolved any issues we had with our room such as turn down service, stocking of the mini bar, etc. He always recognized us and asked us if we needed any thing. We were very happy with his level of service. At the El Mirador Lobby Bar there was always someone singing or playing an instrument in the evenings. The bartenders were great and made amazing drinks. Daniel stood out. He was always very friendly and went out off his way to make us any type of drink we wanted. It was a great place to go for drinks both before and after-dinner. We spent our days in a cabana at the main saltwater pool near the swim up pool bar. The water was very warm, and the service was excellent. The tiles on the bottom of the pool are missing in quite a few places and some of the stairs into the pool need repairs. Unfortunately, this took away from what is a very beautiful resort. The evening entertainment is outdoors, and the seating is limited and uncomfortable which left something to desire. As a result, we did not take in the entertainment which we did regularly at other resorts we visited. The entertainment staff at the pool were excellent and keep the guests always entertained. Except for one day there was not any live entertainment at the pool. Live entertainment was fairly standard at other resorts we visited, and this took away from the overall experience. The resort has a lot of positives and some negatives which made us feel that it is more of a 4-star rather than a 5-star resort at this time.

Mind blowing vacation

This place is just incredible. The restaurants are just amazing. Hospitality is out of this world and Elizabeth the pool concierge is the BEST, anything you need or want she will help you make it happen . We have never met a more friendly and sincere person then her, she is definitely one the reason we will come back.
