Fantastic vacation from start to finish September 28th to October 5th. Note that despite travelling, typically twice a year, for the past 16 years, I've never been electronically finger printed at an airport, but was in Samana. I was there 3 years ago and this didn't happen. Otherwise, painless experience. About an hour and a half from airport to resort via bus including a 5 minute boat ride. You will exit bus on land side for check-in where you should, in my opinion, be offered a drink and perhaps a snack after traveling for several hours. There is water for you to serve yourself. Our arrival time (1:10 p.m.) meant a 50 minute wait for the next boat to the resort. Hence my suggestion for drinks and snacks. Once at the resort shortly after 2 p.m., we were offered a welcome drink. We were told our room wasn't ready, but could go get some lunch in the buffet. Room still wasn't ready, but thanks to our wonderful butler, Gabriel, he managed to speed this along. Our room was on the 5th floor. Note, elevator goes to 4th floor, and stairs to 5th. Large, clean room with comfortable bed, good toiletries including face cloths for those concerned, good sized balcony, good sized closet, free electronic safe, whirlpool tub, alarm clock, and flat screen TV. Fridge stocked with water, pop, beer, and chips. Coffee maker and amenities. Gabriel left wine and glasses in our room one evening, and had a whirlpool bath with rose petals and champagne on ice another evening. Buffet food was excellent; including tender beef. Lots of fruit and veggies, and bacon every day for those concerned. The Gourmet restaurant was excellent. Never managed to get to the other a-la-carte. We were given the opportunity to go 4 nights through the week. Not sure if we could have booked more or not. Only 1 a-la-carte open per night due to low season. Excellent food at beach/pool restaurant. Bars serve top shelf liquor including Smirnoff, Crown Royal, Bailey's, and there's Clamato for a Canadian caesar! Great staffing all away around. Beautiful pools that could be a little cleaner. It was like the skimmer wasn't working properly in the pool by the beach. Beach was beautiful with the most sea shells we've ever seen on the various beaches we've been on. Not a long walking beach by any means though. Lots of chairs and shade. No reason, at least this time of year, to get up at dawn and save a chair. Note there is a fair bit of walking around this resort, with an elevator to the beach. Beautiful scenery and grounds. The public beach is large and beautiful for the locals. You can go out for a visit, and shop from the local vendors. You will not have access to inclusive drinks on this beach. This beach is the one you see on the boat ride over to resort. You take the 5 minute boat ride to mainland for most excursions. We didn't do any. Our flight was delayed 6 hours; we were left on the resort to use services, and were given another room. This was our 2nd vacation to a Luxury Bahia Principe Don Pablo resort, and it won't be our last. Thank you Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado for a great getaway!

This was our second trip to this beautiful island resort and surely not our last! The island and the hotel are absolutely beautiful. Just take a look at the pictures. As for the staff and management they are really wonderful as well, going out of their way to make your stay that more enjoyable and memorable. Just a few that I would like to mention from the many is Jose our butler who we had the pleasure of meeting on our last visit as well. Always with a smile and ready to assist you with whatever you may need. Thank you once again Jose! The guys at the pool bar make the best drinks and are always ready to make you smile. Thank you Eduardo, Erickson and Martin! The nightly entertainment staff are really great as well! Thanks Louise! Will be back soon!

Sad to be writing this review, that means we are not at the resort right now :( The check in on the main land was quick, we caught the 1pm ferry across to the island, and that is when the feeling hits, as you are walking up the dock to the resort, we are home!!! Stayed in Main Resort, rooms 405-406, beautiful views from both rooms, air conditioning working, chocolates, champs, and fruit bowl, what a wonderful way to say welcome back!! Butler was in everynight to scent our room, ummm lavender so relaxing!! Main Buffet was great as always, but did notice a little difference then the last time, in the quality of the meals, but we still always found something to eat. Beach Buffet was also not as good as the last time, very repetitive, salad, pasta and pizza basicly. We used to love the deep fried crab rolls, but this year they we only offered once at the beach buffet, the past few vacations we could get them everyday almost. Drinks, we stayed away this year from anything with orange juice in it, as we used to love the tequila sunrise, tried it at all the bars at the resort, and not one we could drink, then we realized it was the taste of the orange juice, as we tried just OJ at breakfast and that is where we found it it was leaving a bad after taste. OJ changed since the last time we were there. Banana Mama was great, and Malibu with pineapple juice was awesome. Employees go above and beyond to make your stay incredible. That is why we keep going back, love this place. I do have to have to say that we noticed alot of differences this time around. It's not the employees fault, they do the best that they can do with what they have, and what they are allowed to do. The OWNERS are responsible, for the decay of the property, they are not keeping it a 5 Star, guess they don't care about it. When we asked why they we not trying to save the windy beach and the Gazebo, with trying to build some sort of boulder or rock barrier out in the water to help cut the waves on the windy beach, so that it would stop washing away, we got the answer " due to cut backs" Now the beach Gazebo is gone so sad. Asking why there are so many broken and sharp tile in the pools.. "cut backs" Why did they stop the public side at night entertainment "cut backs" Why in the Lobby shop did they stop selling, Bahia Principe logo items. Now for the sad part of the trip, was on day of leaving which is usually very hard. This time it was heart breaking, to see the ceiling of the lobby all crashed down to the floor, breaking the big round table in the center. Then looking up and seeing all that wet cement/concrete and rebar to the second floor, it was actaully the same area of the lobby when we were there after Hurricane Maria, that they must have just patched up to make it look good. There is way to much moisture for that concrete to cure properly, contunious ventilation is needed to stop, the decay of the building. I know that due to the different climate and materials that they use this could happen at any resort in the Dominican, but it is still sad to see, our little vacation spot, just slowly slipping away. As far as us going back.. Yes we love this place. But it is priced as a 5 star, and it is not very safe at the moment, is how we feel. Not everyone will agree, I know. We will see what the future brings to the Island, then we will decide. As for now we will still try other Bahia Principe Resorts, I think Luxury adults only La Romana, maybe our next stop. Cheers everyone, have safe and happy travels!!!!!

On April 14/2019 we had scheduled a trip to Bahia Principal Cayo Levantado. This was supposed to be luxury five-star resort. We were booked into building # 4. The spacious room had a great view of the beach. We spent time at the beach and pool area and went up to the room to change for dinner. I thought the room was a little warm so we adjusted the thermostat accordingly. When we returned in the evening after spending time at the bar we found that the room had not yet cooled off. We turned the air conditioning to the lowest setting and went to bed. We woke up a few hours later in a sweat. The air conditioning did not work. In the morning we went to the front desk and let them know there was an issue. They said they would look into it. After three days of temperatures of 88 degrees F (31.1 C) in the room and continual complaining by me, they moved us to a Villa, building 17, it was not an upgrade. It was a cramped villa with no view, other than the building across the way. The room was no cooler, however, the air conditioning which did not, work blew somewhat cool air right onto the bed and the fan over the bed made the room almost bearable, 85 degrees. The front desk only told me that their system was having issues with the air conditioning. They offered us another room and took us to the main building and showed us an incredible room, great view, huge patio, then told us that the air conditioning did not work either. In the last four months the issues with air conditioning have been noted in other reviews. The resort is not at all concerned with fixing the issues. I would not recommend this resort to my worst enemies. The owners know what the issues are and do not care. If this were a hotel in your home town you would be walking out and looking for a refund. If your travel agent is recommending this resort, it may be time to get another travel agent. DO NOT STAY HERE. I will admit that the staff was great; the food was great, the grounds were great. Our friends in another building had air conditioning; however after 14 days of not getting a good night sleep, the only thing I will say is DO NOT STAY HERE.
