Another Good Sandals Vacation but Not Exceptional

This was our 7th Sandals/Beaches visit. We have been to the Grande, Antigua, Negril, South Coast, Turks & Caicos, and Grenada. We have had some truly amazing Sandals vacations (Grande, South Coast and Grenada) and others that have been fine but nothing spectacular. The only reason this stay gets such a high mark is for the room - we stayed in the Millionaire Bluff Suite with private pool and hot tub. This villa has a gorgeous view and it was lovely to escape to our villa when the beach was too rough (5 out of the 7 days were red flagged) or we didn’t want to be around people. It was worth the splurge for us even though the service was somewhat lacking. We have stayed in Rondovals, Skypool rooms and in the OTW bungalows in SSC so we anticipated with the room class and the price paid (only about $800 less than what we paid for the OTW for our stay at LaToc) that we would be receiving a “stepped up” level of service from everyone. This was not what happened and slightly disappointed that we were just like any other room. We had 3 butlers that rotated days - Gem, Don and Donovan. Gem really is the gem of this Butler team and I wish she would have been there every day. I had heard great things about Don and Donovan prior to our arrival though I felt that they were lacking in their desire to go above and beyond. They were nice and polite just could have stepped up their game just a bit to shine like Gem. Dining was good but far from as great as Grenada, Grande and South Coast. Two bright spots were Cathy at the LaToc restaurant and her energy and positive attitude made me smile each time we dined there (we had 3 dinners at LaToc). Also Richard the sushi chef at Soy got creative and made an amazing sushi platter for us. The food at the other restaurants was okay but thing stood out that made me want to eat there again. I was disappointed in the service we received daily at breakfast at Armandos. It was the only breakfast made to order option (we tried the buffet but it wasn’t impressive and things were cold). The serving staff at Armandos acted as if they would rather be anywhere else but there. One morning it was quite empty and we asked to sit in the little overhang area and was told there was only a 4 top table so we could not sit there. There was an empty table but it wasn’t set. The very next couple that checked in just minutes after us asked to be seated down there and they set the empty table and seated them there. My husband couldn’t quite believe the obvious rudeness. We felt extremely safe traveling and being about the resort. Masks were worn by all staff and transport staff. We wore masks whenever we were in close contact with others such as the shuttle to the catamaran and private transfers, etc. We enjoyed the spa and had our couples massage on our first full day and it was so lovely that we booked individual appointments after we hiked the Gros Piton. Manuella and Gloria were our therapists both times and they did amazing jobs. My husband had the hot rock massage and I did the raindrop massage. We did the Gros Piton as a private tour to insure we could go early in the morning and do it at our own pace. It was 2 miles up and we did it in 2 hours (it rained the entire time too) and down in just under 2 hours. Thankfully it stopped raining shortly after we reached the top. It was a bit of a challenge and it was fun to accomplish this even while on vacation. We would stay again at LaToc and likely in the Millionaire Suite though we know not expect millionaire level service.

We vacationed with friends in January at La Toc. It was our first time at a Sandals and it not be our last. We had the ocean front two story villa with butler service. The room was spacious with great views of the ocean. We had 3 butlers assigned to us. They were responsive, gracious and attentive to our needs. The staff at the resort could not have been nicer. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they do and appreciated guests choicing Sandals. The food was very good overall. We especially enjoyed the Japanese steak house, Neptunes and Armondos. The resort also took COVID seriously. They constantly sanitized the resort. We felt very safe during our entire stay.

Our stay at La TOC was great. Our stay included the butler service. We had 3 butlers. All attended to our needs, anything we wanted they attended to our needs. The staff was outstanding, they were very grateful that we were there, thanking us, and calling us family. Food and drinks were great too.

My husband and I have been visiting Sandals Resorts since 2004 and was excited for our 8th Sandals vacation over Christmas in St. Lucia. After spending 6 days at the Sandals Regency La Toc in St. Lucia, I hate to share that our vacation was not what we expected or bargained for. We booked this vacation in 2019. While we understand Covid 19 has changed a number of ways in which you operate, these things could have and should have been communicated with guests prior to arrival. We chose St. Lucia because of the ability to stay at one, play at three. We were beyond thrilled to have 27 restaurants, 11 pools and 21 bars at our disposal. I was especially looking forward to the steakhouse restaurant at the Grande St. Lucian. We felt hoodwinked that we paid top price for this vacation that only allowed us access to a fraction of amenities than what we paid would normally allow us access to. Additionally, for some reason, the spa amenities were also limited, the jacuzzi and the sauna were not allowed, but the whirlpools elsewhere on property were. Expectations could have been managed regarding these limitations had they been communicated with guests in advance and if it they were not STILL being promoted on the website. Despite these deficiencies (and our Butlers that didn't go above and beyond) we enjoyed our first and only vacation of 2020, but not sure the luxury was delivered or the experience matched the price tag.
