Terrible stay at tryp Habana Libre. I stayed in this hotel 19 years ago with my family, with an overall great experience. This time, no words can describe how bad it was. The carpets in every floor are disgustingly dirty and you can see cockroaches walking around. Me and my sister changed room three times. The first time in the 15th floor, the shower didn't work and the water handles were pulled from the wall, the shelves in the wardrobe and the table were broken and everything was very dirty. Sadly I didn't take a picture of that room because it was unbelievably bad. The second room, in the 19th floor, was better but still very far from a 4* hotel. The first night we saw 6 cockroaches in the room. The second night, when we returned from dinner, there were about 20 COCKROACHES. Everywhere. On the wall, the floor, the trash bin. Absolutely disgusting. We went to the reception and the lady never once apologized for the horror we found, knowing full well there is a cockroach infestation and that there is nothing being done about it. We changed rooms again, this time to the 24th floor, what the reception lady said was a "premium room", a much better and renewed room (the same way every other room should be in a 4*), but still we found another cockroach that night. This happened to many other travelers we spoke to. Changing rooms 3 times was very common amongst people we talked to, and everywhere was dirty. The food at the breakfast buffet looked very nice and varied, but honestly I couldn't eat anything because I couldn't stop thinking how many cockroaches would be in the kitchen. The manager in the restaurant, Arelio, was very nice and helpful, but sadly he can't change the conditions that are being offered in this hotel. I've traveled quite a lot, both in good hotels and as a backpacker. I've stayed in many cheap Hostels and pensions and I've never seen something like this. This hotel is a public health hazard and should be closed. By all means DO NOT STAY HERE.

Stayed at this hotel on a recent trip to Cuba. Given the price of accommodation and the five star rating I was expecting an above basic hotel. Was very disappointed with the facilities. Not only did we not have any hot water in the morning for a shower, the shower head and curtain rail were also broken and unusable. Informed reception of the issues when we were checking out at 11.50am she said as checkout wasn’t until 12 we could go back to the room and ask the service personnel to come and look at the issue! Pointless.

I went together with my family () and a friend couple to visit Havana for 3 days in the end of august. We stayed at Melia Tryp havana libre. The first impression is great! An impressively wide open atrium awaits you at the entrance. When the hotel opened back in the 1950’s, its architecture was considered “state-of-the-art”. Historic photographs hang on the walls showing Fidel Castro and his troops in the first days of the revolution. We were given modern rooms at the 23rd floor, fully equiped with air conditioning and TV plasma screen. The view over the city is amazing. But not better than the one in the last floor. Definitely worth a visit!! All the staff is friendly and willing to assist you. We would like to give a speciall thanks to Danielle at the reception and Daniel at the breakfast room for being so helpful. The only downside are the elevators. Just 3 working in a hotel with such large occupation is really not enough. Once, we had to wait more than 15 min. to enter in one. Appart from this, I recommend this hotel for a short stay (2-3 days) in Havana.

I am currently staying at the hotel, have been in Cuba for 8 days now, spend 2 in Melia Cohiba and 6 in Melia Las Americas, must say that the service in those was great. I have no idea how Melia/Tryp has their name on Habana Libre. The service has been horrible, the gentleman at the front desk Humberto was very dismissive when we were checking in, there was a couple next to us who he was paying more attention too while we were checking in, instead of finishing with us. We got a room in the 19th floor, the hallways are dirty, carpets are truly disgusting, the room itself has an awesome view and the beds are comfortable, everything else is about 80 years old, from the furniture to the beat up bathroom to the fact that the AC doesn’t blow, went to tell Humberto and he was hiding like he didn’t want to talk to us. The lady wendolyn I think was her name had an attitude that we were having issues with the air conditioner. The light switches in the room do not work so we have to turn the lights on by hand which it’s not a huge problem. Cohiba and Las Americas we had the WiFi free, here we have to buy the 1 hour card while Humberto was giving the full day cards to the previous couple mentioned. Have taken three showers already in less than 3 hours because the room is super hot, their way to fix the issue is telling us to wait until someone leaves. If you don’t want to work, let someone else take it. There are a bunch of people in Cuba waiting for a job like this. Valet parking is closed because they are doing renovations but the parking people were helpful, probably the only good thing about this hotel so far. It seems like the hotel is undergoing renovations but if that’s the case, I wouldn’t have people stay in these crappy rooms and if they are like in my case, not the price that they are charging. For $150 a night, I expect much better service and treatment than I have received. I come to visit family for a few weeks a year and will never stay in this hotel again.
