I had a wonderful time at Turquesa, good location, beautiful beach and very friendly staff. Especially Alejandro and Yuya from the Entertainment team made my holiday great. Every day lots of fun with dancing lessons, and games in the swimming pool. I will come back!

Grounds look nice, that where it ends. Food is not good, had potatoes not fully cooked, some food warm and greasy. Rooms are old and need of repair. Washroom by the Party Bar, toilets did not flush after they had been used, and no toilet paper plus the reviews from other people are right.

Just returned from 7 days at this resort and boy, is this place interesting. To start on a positive note, the grounds are beautifully kept - this is one area where you see the pride of the groundskeepers. The beach is clean and probably the most beautiful that I've experienced (not to the credit of the hotel, but it needs all the positives it can get.) I read reviews prior to going and so many are mixed, it was hard to determine what the reality is - but let me tell you. Check-in - horrendous. The front desk staff are inattentive, and you have to stand there for a while before they even look up from what they're doing to acknowledge you. We were waiting in what we thought was a check-in line for about 10-15 minutes before the front desk agent (Theresa) tried to turn us away and tell us to join the end of what appeared to be a second line. It wasn't until I argued with her and told her that she should have told us this (instead of leaving us waiting for so long) that she finally agreed to check us in (and became much nicer). So we check in and try to find our rooms. The grounds are so dark at night, half of the lighting is either burnt out or intentionally off (because they're an energy conserving resort, you see). The buildings are not marked at all and with the poor lighting, it took us an absurd amount of time to find our rooms. Ok, we make it to our rooms. The rooms are spacious with working A/C. The bathroom is okay, minus the mold in the bathtub. Fresh sheets were stained. Fresh towels were stained. There is one 2L bottle of water in the room, which we learned was the ONLY complimentary water you receive for ALL 7 DAYS. Guests are expected to refill their bottles with tap water at the bars or restaurant as needed. We later learned (on our last day) that they offer mini-bar packages with additional water bottles and beer/soft drinks for an additional cost, ranging from 6 to 20 CUCs depending on the package. Perhaps promote this to guests at check-in? Other points of note: The currency exchange rate at the hotel is a rip off. They are lying if they tell you they have the same rate as the bank. Their rate was 0.65 while the bank in Varadero was 0.74. We spoke to other travelers on the way back and their hotel charged 0.73 (The Royalton). So, this is an intentional rip off! Exchange your money at the International Bank in town. You get there by cab or by getting off at the 32nd Street stop on the double decker tour bus that goes to downtown Varadero. Safes are not included and they charge 4 CUCs per day TO SECURE YOUR BELONGINGS. Ridiculous. General store/souvenir shop has no variety and is overpriced. No snack options. Buffet is horrible. No variety in the 7 days we were there, random food combinations that make no sense, food under cooked, no seasoning. A la carte is no better - actually much worse. There are 3 nights - Mexican, Italian and Cuban. We saw people get up and leave in the middle of their entrees. Many we spoke to said they left and went to the buffet to finish their meals. "Snack bar" is only open 11PM until late night, and only serves burgers. Drinks are watered down with sugary juice. The beer is okay, but don't expect real drinks. I had to instruct them on how to make me a proper sangria. The gym is a joke. A tiny room with old, rusty machines that look like they have never been wiped down or sanitized. No towels, empty water cooler, no toilet paper in the washroom. Just nasty. Several scammy instances where "lottery" tickets are sold (where's the money going?), or we were asked to pay to play bingo by the pool one day but not the rest of the days of the week - all by "staff" who aren't in uniform or wearing name tags. In case you haven't already guessed - will never come back here, will never recommend. There are plenty of nicer resorts with higher service standards in Varadero. Cuba is a beautiful country and not to be judged based on the resort experience, but this place does it no justice at all.

We were moved to this hotel because the one we booked was overbooked. What a disaster. Before anyone assumes that I have high expectations, I just want to say that I've been over 20 times in Cuba and at least 15 of these were in Varadero. This is by far the worst hotel I've ever been to. Food: Terible. Not much choise and thank god that they had fresh pork and cheap fish cooked on Flat Top Grill, otherwise I don't think I would have anithing else to eat. The prepared food looked like something that you feed to the pigs. Constantly no plates, no glasess, for brakfast you get instant coffee in the restaurnat and powder juices that are so sweet and undrincable. Rooms: My shed in my back yard is in better condition than the rooms in this hotel. Lights don't work, Plugs don't work, Bathroom sink was plugged, Hairdrier not working, the TV had no signal, phone was not working, squire toalette with a round toalette seat, mold everywhere in the bathroom. Room Service: All they do is make you pretty blanket art, but... Toilette was never cleaned, The sink was never cleaned, the bathtub was never cleaned. No soap or shampoo refills unless you go and scream at the front desk. Towels if they decide to change them, most likely will forget to give you new ones or they will only provide you with hand towels. Bars: Unless you are OK with Cuba Libre and Beer, everything else they run out in the first 30 minutes. All you get is the cheapest possible rum and watered-down beer. Be prepared to spend, spend, and spend: You want to use the safe in the room? You have to pay. Do you want water in your room fridge? You have to pay! Do you want to exchange money? Be prepared to get at least 20% less for your dollars than everywhere else in Varadero. Do you want to pay with a credit card in the store? You have to pay 20% on top! Speaking of the hotel store... Do not buy anything in there. The prices are 50-100% higher than anywhere else in Varadero, including other hotels. Also, depending on who is at the cash, be prepared to pay different prices for the same item. For example, one day I got a pack of local cigarettes fo 2CUC two days later they were 1CUC (they cost everywhere else 0.5CUC)

Whole resort needs painting. Nothing good to say about the rooms. We change rooms with the hope of even an average room but the second room was the same. Issues were insects(especially mosquitos) light fixtures, bulbs, overall a ONE STAR for the rooms.
