We visited Barbados in November last year and for this visit decided to stay nearer Bridgetown. Overall very impressed only comments would be the standard of service in main restaurant its slow at best. Second would be just check the small extras you could be charged for after you leave, one they advise you of on arrival others they don't. Would definitely return.

Just setting off from what has been the most idyllic week spent at this hotel, where to start with the praise to all those that create the perfect setting at this wonderful place. From the warm welcome, the exceptionally clean room overlooking the beautiful bay and the wonderful choice of dining, our week here has been the most stress free vacation we have ever experienced. The warm radiating smiles from all the staff, who work to the mantra of ‘no problem’ radiates around the resort. I need to mention in particular Kieran, Astra, Jabari, Sophia, Shaqwan and Andrea! We highly recommend Sugar Bay to those looking for a perfect, relaxing break. We will definitely be returning

    Small, chill resort

The resort is very clean and set on a beautiful beach. I loved swimming in the ocean. A small breakwater allowed for waves yet kept it safe for swimming. There was never a problem finding a subbed on the beach or at the pool, however there was very little shade even with the "first come, first serve" Bali beds or spots with umbrellas. I burn easily even with 60 factor sunscreen, and found the corners nearest the terrace restaurant by the pool had the only partial shade. The main pool was very clean, with a swim up bar. It was small, and shallow. At its deepest point it is 4 feet deep. The scene around the pool and on the beach was very chill, some music. No activities like we have seen at other resorts (e.g water aerobics, bubble parties, etc etc) and that was just fine with us. The other pool is very very small. Just a bit larger than a typical hot tub. The food was good. The main restaurant, the Reef, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It had a small but tasty buffet, and the menu changed every day. There is also a cafe near the small Colin's bar (about a 3-5 min walk from the main pool) which is open for lunch. The towel exchange is also there. There are two specialty restaurants: Yumi, a tasty Asian restaurant, and Sizzle, a steak restaurant that was just ok. You can go to a specialty restaurant 2 x per week, and need to make reservations at the concierge desk. The drinks were fine, nothing special. A small specialty cocktail menu, mostly rum based, which you have to ask for and which many bartenders didn't seem familiar with. The staff were all pleasant. We went on a paid excursion: a 5 hour boat trip on the el Tigre catamaran, which was a lot of fun. 3 snorkelling stops including snorkelling near turtles, and over a sunken ship. The crew, including Maureen, were great and made the day special. The trip included a delicious lunch. This trip was arranged through the hotel and cost $95 usd. The only other activity that seemed to be offered by the hotel was a free walking tour around the nearby historic Garrison, a UNESCO world heritage site. Took about an hour. We also paid $15 usd each for a round trip to the Oisin (spelling ?) Friday night fish fry. It was very crowded, and of the 7 couples who were in our shuttle, only 1 ended up eating there as lines were so long, and one couple went across the street to eat at KFC. I wouldn't recommend it. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Sugar Bay. If you are looking for a resort with a ton of acvities and action, this is likely not the resort for you. If you are looking for a chill vacation, book today!

We're coming to the end of our second stay at Sugar Bay and the beautiful island of Barbados. The fact that we came back says it all really - this is probably the best hotel I've ever stayed at in terms of customer service, and I have travelled a lot. The staff are just lovely and they all remembered us from our previous trip last year. Special mention has to go to Andrea (who now starts making my omelette when she sees me walk into breakfast - you don't get better than that!) Tanisha one of the lovely restaurant hostesses, and the fabulous barmen who keep us topped up with drinks: Romario, Andre, Marlon, Akil, Akeem, Derick, Sashin, Randolph and Helen. If I've missed anyone I'm sorry but you have all looked after us very well for the last two weeks. The location right on the beach is beautiful and we were very lucky that we had no seaweed to contend with this time (not the hotel's fault, but it can happen). We were lucky enough to see baby turtles hatching on our very first night. The food and drinks are the best I've had in an all inclusive. Cocktails made from scratch, good wine and of course not to forget a cold Banks beer when you come off the beach. We've had some fabulous lunches at Colin's bar (the beef & potato roti was to die for and made me want to take the chef home with me). The steaks at Sizzle are fine dining quality and Umi is also fabulous for Asian Fusion food. The Exec Chef Paul talks to the guests and is passionate about providing the best food and it definitely shows. We haven't had a bad meal in the last two weeks. Finally, don't forget to sample the freshly baked cookies and muffins which are available by the coffee machine every morning. I understand that they are redeveloping the coffee shop which will also be included when it's ready. In summary: Sugar Bay you have been amazing again. We are already planning our return visit and hope to see you very soon.

We booked this holiday very last minute due to unplanned circumstances of the downfall of Thomas Cook, meaning to go to Mexico and I must say we are 100% going to be returning. There was 4 of us in total including me, my boyfriend, brother in law and his partner. During our stay at this lovely resort we have enjoyed every single minute, but 3 staff in particular (Ramario, Andre & Barry) have made this stay feel like home and gone that extra mile. They have welcomed us all so much and we have built a good friendship with these guys too, we’ve had lots of good laughs and even going to keep in touch. The food at the hotel is amazing every single day, the breakfast was spot on and a variety of different stuff every day for lunch and dinner so you’re not getting bored of the same thing. We enjoyed all the entertainment at the hotel, better than any hotel we’ve been to before which made it enjoyable to be in the hotel 24/7. Both UMI & Steak restaurants are out of this world. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy, the beach is beautiful and overall such a great place. It’s been an absolute pleasure and we will see you again soon Sugar Bay.. Again big thanks to the 3 amazing staff for making it so special for us.
