    Do not use the valet!

You're basically forced to use the valet. If you don't, you have to haul everything yourself, you can't use their carts. So we used the valet and they put a HUGE crack in my windshield and refuse to pay fornthe damage. I paid a lot of money to have my property damaged! Total rip off!

As a DVC owner, this is the best purchase we’ve ever made. The convenience of this hotel goes without saying, but to emphasize— we went into California Adventure for an hour, then walked back out to our amazing room, started a load of laundry, changed into Halloween costumes and went back in for the night- within the next hour. The pools and rooms were perfectly clean, kept up and QUIET for sleep, even next to the park. But the Disney service is still the highlight. I was waiting for the towel guy to come back and give me some towels for the pool when the manager saw me waiting, came over and got me towels while asking if he could do anything else for me. That level of service shows me everyone, no matter what his or her position, is doing absolutely everything to make your stay the best it can be. The seasonal fall/Halloween touches were fun as well. I love coming back to this “home.”

Average for type of hotel it is

Although this is a beautiful hotel, it is only average at best for the type that it is. Gorgeous lobby that really wows when you enter, but the service and staff are in great need of training. The housekeeping staff seemed top notch while we were there, however, the front desk staff contradicted one another from one shift to another. We were told to request a king bed on check-in, but the front clerk told us that "this is a family hotel, we only have 75 king beds here". I'm not sure what a king bed and a "family hotel" had to do with one another, but when one person in the party is over 6'3", it's nice to have a bed they can sleep in. We were given a room with 2 queens, and my husband slept in one bed diagonally while I slept in the other. Not preferable, but doable. We've been here a few times with our children, this was the first just the two of us, and again I say, I didn't like the insinuation that we were not a family. The beds felt like they had been jumped on a LOT, when you lay down you could feel the outside edges had been broken down and you'd almost side out of the bed if you didn't sleep in the hump in the middle. (For the price, change the mattresses Disney) The walls are thin, we could hear the TV on in the next room along with Dad talking to his, often crying, youngster. The sinks dripped loudly for a few minutes after use. We learned to turn them both on and off at the same time and it usually did the trick. This from a 4 star hotel? Hmmmm It has an exit right into California Adventure and a short hike to the front gates of Disneyland through Down Town Disney. Nice to have that convenience. The Storyteller Cafe is buffet only and expensive. If you want to have the characters cone to your table, this is a great place to get that. I have food allergies and they were very nice to have the chef come out and then he made me a breakfast himself. HOWEVER, I got a bowl of fruit and some scrambled eggs. They DO NOT discount for only getting an egg and fruit, we still had to pay $45 each for breakfast, plus tax and tip. Something to think about. We were also told we could get late check out if the rooms were not booked, we had to wait until 6pm the night before we checked out. We did ask, they said yes, "We do not have your room booked out and there are plenty of roomed empty. Let me just make one call” She called someone who didn't want to make any extra money, she said no, she didn’t' want to have to "deal with it", whatever that means. So although we were told by several people that late check out was available, the one power of Oz, the man (or woman) behind the curtain said NO. So no king, no late check out, no discounts for not eating the buffet. They do have small child size rocking chairs and a TV in the lobby for children. They have a piano that usually has someone entertaining at certain portions of the day. There is a high end restaurant, the Napa Rose, down stairs and easy access along with a bar in a separate area. They have several swimming pools, a hot tub and a slide. There is a small gift store with a few essentials down stairs in the lobby area and plenty of extra rooms around the place to have receptions, weddings and ....your pick. All the rooms are decorated with Chip and Dale and have coffee pots with a small refrigerator and a safe. Bath robes for your use in the room and all H2O products in the showers and sink areas. If nothing else, I love it for the closeness to the parks. When we went with our children and this time, it's so easy to go into the park for half the day, return to your room for a rest and go back into the park. They have security at all entrances to Downtown Disney and to California Adventure Park, so once you get into downtown Disney from the hotel, you just go straight to the line to get into the park, no security again, which is nice. 5 stars for convenience and housekeeping, 1 star for hotel staff and friendliness and the condition of the hotel itself. For the best rooms, concierge is nice with the snack/appetizer room having the fireworks view with the music piped in from the park. The concierge rooms on the Downtown Disney side are nice

Great location. Hotel looks amazing. We have stayed in this, the pier and Disneyland hotel. I prefer the Disney hotel. The Californian is such a busy hotel. The bar area is just too small for the size hotel. Disney has lost its Disney. We have been going for over 10 years. It is now a hotel with a theme park. It used to be all Disney... the staff now act like it is a job and a theme park. They used to appreciate it is Disney and magical. The hotel is nice and a perfect location. You can go into California park from This hotel. You can walk out to get a coffee and food options. Room service was fast. We had a suite and it was large and had a balcony. The pool area is nice and a great way to relax.

spent 5 nights here recently. hotel itself is nice but several issues for cost. room service not answering phone at all one night followed by breakfast deliver failure another morning . was told at pool restaurant for lunch food was backed up 45 minutes because staff called out for day-really at a "premium hotel". worst experience though was the ridiculous security for the hotel entrance into the park. several of these unfriendly cast members seemed to get enjoyment from being rude and came across as a power hungry cop-especially one by the name LORRAINE!-hotel should dump this shrill unhappy , not like her job women.
