This is one of the nicest hotels that I have ever stayed in, if not the nicest. They have the largest pool in Central America that ends with a huge infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. The room was large, beds perfect and all impeccably clean. Our Caravan group enjoyed for breakfast a dozen different kinds of pastries, chef-created omelets, six kinds of jelly, 8 kinds of amazing fresh fruit, smoked salmon, bacon, fresh honey, french toast, waffles, pancakes and orange juice squeezed from fresh oranges right before your eyes. The lunch and supper feasts were equally amazing--with fresh grilled whole fish, fresh clams, mussels, and a chef-created taco bar. The hotel property is amazing, and we took an early morning stroll to see more than 20 different kinds of birds, a wild deer and several monkeys. We stayed two days at this resort and it was very difficult to leave. Throughout the day they offer various craft, game and cooking classes. Every minute at this resort is worth it.

This hotel is all we expected and more! From the friendly welcome at check-in to the amazing service poolside, room service and at every restaurant, what a wonderful experience! This was the second leg of our trip and after all the hiking we did inland we were ready to relax and be pampered. We were not disappointed! We ordered room service twice. Once on our first night there and again the morning we checked out. Very prompt service both times and the food was exactly what we ordered and delicious. We got food poolside a few times, We dined at Mansita Restaurant one evening, ordering from the menu and it was wonderful. On our last evening we went to Sabanero Steak House and let me just tell you, THIS was my favorite meal! From the moment we sat down our server, Miguel, made sure we had the very best experience possible! Any questions we had about the menu, he answered and was very knowledgeable. He was attentive and even made us a wonderful pre-dinner cocktail for us to toast our anniversary and then ended our beautiful dinner with an unbelievable chocolate cake! Top notch! Please go see him, you will not be disappointed! I had the Costa Rican Cut Filet, probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. We never had one issue getting chairs together with our friends at the pool. The grounds are stunning and well maintained. Watching the sunset every evening poolside was definitely a major highlight. The beach is truly a thing of beauty and wonder. For everyone who complains that it is too rocky....IT'S A VOLCANO!!! It is so neat to see the difference between the low and the high tide. There is a swim area to the right of the main hotel(still on the property) that is fantastic for snorkeling and if you walk to the left around the bend, open private beaches. Speaking of walking to the left, if you keep going about 1 mile you will walk up to an awesome little Costa Rican beach bar called Lola's! Fun atmosphere, yummy food, good music and great surfer watching. A must! All in all, if you are going on vacation with a great attitude and ready to relax and enjoy, this is the place for you!!

Knowing there are only 80+ JW's in the world, one being in our hometown, we come to expect excellence and this did not disappoint. This hotel is located about an hour and 20 minutes from the airport. We arrived late at night. The public road prior to the entrance was full of potholes which made me wonder what we would expect from the JW. However, once we entered the gated property we were in for a treat. We arrived around 12:30am and were greeted warmly by the bellmen. Our bellman, Davis, took us to our room and showed us everything we needed to know. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the resort. We came in two days prior to a business trip. We woke up to a beautiful view of the ocean. The bedroom was comfortable and well equipped with a coffee maker, refrigerator and bottled water. Each day our towels were made into a creation of art which was fun to observe. Evelin Villanueva Fernandez was our housekeeper and she kept everything in order. The only problem we observed was the shower that leaked all over the floor. We called front desk and it was resolved. We enjoyed room service a couple of times which was served promptly. They say 45 minutes but it was always less. Alexander, Dewar and Manuel brought up our meals and were both friendly and attentive. Our first experience at a sit-down meal was for breakfast at the Mansita restaurant where we were greeted by Karen and Isabel. Great reps for the hotel. We had an option to eat in or out, so we chose, inside. We also had a choice for the buffet or the menu. The buffet for two is $61/day. So worth it. Each day there were different fruits, meats, but on the whole an amazing assortment of breakfast delights plus two omelette stations so you don't have to wait in the morning. Two of our favorite servers were Adriana and Myleen, always ready to fill a cup of coffee or attend to anything we needed. At the omelette stations were Raquel and Yerilin. Since I spoke some spanish it was fun to order in their language and have conversation. So fun. Manuel also served coffee and Justhin kept the food fresh and filled. We also ate at the Mansita with our group and enjoyed an amazingly presented Caesar Salad and Barbequed Spareribs that were served hot and tender. When our group arrived we had reservations at the Sabanero Steakhouse. Our server Jonathan was amazing for such a large group. We enjoyed a complimentary ceviche which was amazing. We ordered the filet mignon and grilled vegetables. All cooked to perfection and served hot. After dinner we enjoyed dessert at Waves and Cream. A nice spot to end the night. Also each evening there are local vendors that bring their wares for us to buy. Found a unique leather bracelet with beads. Many options to choose from. One evening we had an awards night on the rooftop of Azul where we enjoyed first an amazing sunset. This was a private dinner just for us and it didn't disappoint. The beach was okay. Not like Cancun, but it doesn't purport to be. There are riptide warnings up so we stayed at the pool, which was amazing. Plenty of comfortable lounges and umbrellas for shade. However three of the days, winds were 25-35mph which meant we couldn't put up the umbrella. That made it difficult to remain outside as there was limited shade. Playing volleyball in the pool kept us cooled off. Joseph and Frank did a great job keeping us hydrated and fed around the pool. The chicken wings were delicious, however I would stay away from the Nachos.5-6pm there is a happy hour at the Azul bar which is a fun social time and great drinks. Our favorite bar after dinner was Nau where Odgar made amazing Guaro Sours. We also enjoyed the Spa everyday. I had a manicure, pedicure, scrub, facial and hot stone massage. I had on dip which at first they said they couldn't accommodate. However, Melissa was up for the challenge and was able to get the dip off my nails. They do not do shellac or Dip at the JW. Only natural manicures. The spa was well equipped beginning with the greeting from the front desk. Ariana and Johnny were friendly and informative of services provided. Melissa also did my scrub and hot stone massage as well as pedicure for me and my husband. They were amazing. The scrub was unique in that the rinse came from multiple jets that moved over you like a car wash. It was amazing. My Vitamin C facial was relaxing and refreshing. Geanina, was both gently and professional. Highly Recommend. With so many people in our group, a few things got mixed up on our bills. Flor, the point person as well as Caterina were amazing in resolving any problems we had. Laura and Dennis at the Front desk also provided info when asked with friendliness and patience. We had an amazing time here at the JW and being Marriott Reward Members look forward to visiting again.

We Didn't Get What We Paid For

My husband and I booked an oceanfront king room with a balcony. We were shown an oceanfront room on the ground floor with a terrace. When we pointed out that a terrace is not a balcony and the room lacked any privacy, they said that other guests had overstayed and a balcony room was not available. We didn't want to stay in a room with people walking in front of our terrace every few minutes. There was no privacy. They showed us a different "oceanview" room on a higher floor. We could glimpse the ocean through the branches of a palm tree, but it was a 95% garden/pool view. They told us that it would be the same price as the room we booked, but when we looked online it was a cheaper room. It's disappointing not to get what we paid for, particularly when we have stayed at other spectacular hotels in Costa Rica. We will not be back to this property when there are other amazing options.

We stayed at this resort as part of a caravan tour and were lucky enough to have our non scheduled day here. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was by far the best on our tour, and I loved the pool and the beach. I was concerned that we might have issues getting a lounge chair by the pool, especially since we were there on a weekend, but there were no issues. I must admit that the price of the hotel and the restaurant food would normally be beyond our budget, but we were blessed to have it as part of our tour.
