Grand Velas is a truly spectacular experience! Our family has been back every year for the last four years and we will continue to go back. The resort is gorgeous, food is incredible and the service is exceptional! Nadia and Gerardo at the pool are truly fabulous! They consistently went out of their way to make sure we always had anything we needed and they were wonderful with my kids! Andrea, our concierge was also fantastic! She checked with us regularly to make sure we were happy and accommodated our every request. The service at Frida, Lucca and Sen Lin was consistently exceptional and the food is always amazing! The staff at the Kids Club is so great with the kids and they even remembered our family from previous years, my kids love to go there for dinner (and bonus- we get a date night!). I can't say enough good things about this resort, you will never want to leave!

We stayed at Grand Velas for the first time Feb 6 to Feb 13, 2020. My wife and I travelled with our 2 year old and 10 year old. Check in was very relaxing. No time share people. No rushing. We were met with fresh wet face towels, sparkling wine for the adults and juice for the kids. A complimentary (brief) massage while they processed our intake paperwork. Everyone is assigned a personal concierge and we were very lucky and pleased to get to know Chepe as ours. He was always available, well informed, and wiling to help. He was kind and friendly and never once did any of us feel anything welcomed by his hospitality and friendship. As a 5 star resort - this place earns every star. Premium liquor, excellent food, very very clean and well maintained property, and attentive and helpful staff in every department. Our 10 year old did wish there were a few more outdoor activity options for him like a water park, however, there is a very well equipped teens club that had ping pong, foosball, billiards, a disco, countless PS4 stations, and their own "bar" with drinks and snacks. The teens club and kids club staff were also amazing. (Ask for fish food at the kids club to feed the koi in the various ponds on the property!) The beach was well maintained and we found our selves playing in the sand more often than we usually do. The resort is just the right size where the rooms are not a mile away from the pool or the beach. We did not have any trouble finding a lounge chair or cabana at any time. Plenty of towels always available poolside. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back - maybe without kids this time - to experience even more of this amazing proprety. PS - if you need some more pesos - there are bank machines right on the resort (where the staff check in and out). All it cost me was about 30 pesos as a transaction fee and I got the bank exchange rate which was a bit better than the front desk. They will happily help direct you to the bank machines if this is something you need.

An amazing experience with Gold Standard delivery

It seemed to me that the staff and management of the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit have all read the Ritz Carlton Gold Standard. Not only have they read it but they adhere to these principles. "We are Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen." It goes beyond the serving aspect and treating people how you would like to treated, and in an all inclusive wrapper with a big red bow. I have to admit that my expectations were not high due to the time of the year we were visiting. We arrived 2 days after Christmas and were staying till Jan. 3rd. We also learned that the resort was going to be at capacity during this stay, but I must say the management stepped up with all hands on deck. I want to start by thanking the Head Chef and his entire staff. We have a family of Vegans with strict dietary needs and not only did the staff accommodate our needs they went above and beyond by preparing dishes that were not even on the menu. The Sous-chef at the Azul had fresh celery juice for us in the mornings, they new us all by name and there was never an inclination that what we were asking for was outside of the norm. Not one time during our stay did we ask for something and was told that they could not accommodate it. The resort also hosted a New Years Eve party that had amazing live music, amenities and was over by 1230 am. Thank you for those of us not wanting to stay up till 3 am. The pool and beach staff were always there when you needed anything, and with a smile. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that I would compare the Grand Velas to an all inclusive Ritz Carlton which is a tall order to follow. Oh yeah, did I mention it is all-inclusive.

Second visit as perfect as the first

There is so much that has been said about this resort and its grandeur in all the previous reviews. I will try not to repeat too much of what has already been written. But what I would like to say, is there are hundreds and hundreds of Mexican all-inclusive resorts you could chose for your vacation. Once you go to Grand Velas, Riviera Nayarit, you will be spoiled for life and will find it hard to try anywhere else. This was only our second stay at Grand Velas. My husband and I, generally like to try new places and experiences, but Grand Velas is so special that we were planning our next visit before we even left. The resort and grounds are just beautiful and its nice to see the staff take such pride in the maintenance of all that beauty. I will break my review down into sections, hopefully to allow for easy reading. The Rooms and the Wonderful Housekeeping: As mentioned, all the rooms are great and face the ocean and/or the beautiful pools and grounds. On our last visit we were upgraded to a penthouse Wellness Suite. Wow was it fantastic! I am an ocean lover and usually the closer I can get to the ocean the better. This time we did a Master Ocean Front suite. It was really nice but in hind site I really liked the panoramic view the Wellness Suite provided. With the ocean front suites, you are right in front of where they have weddings and special events. This was not a concern to us, but something to know if you want to consider those suites. There was an early morning wedding while we were there and I was aware of them setting up in the wee hours of the morning, but again it did not bother. In fact, I got up and watched the workers from the balcony, and marveled at their work ethic and attention to detail. And then, I got to witness the most incredible wedding celebration I have ever seen. I have goose bumps just writing this. An extra bonus of a beautiful, smaller resort…you get to share in the joy of others. Housekeeping was on another level. The twice a day service was such a treat. Our housekeepers seemed to be aware of our daily schedule and their service was seamless and timely. We never experienced coming back to the room after a day at the beach only to find it dirty and waiting for housekeeping like we have experienced at other resorts. The Staff: There were so many familiar faces, and I am going to be so remiss in not being able to mention every single person who made our stay perfect. Just know that every single person encountered at this resort is warm, friendly and genuine. But I must mention our personal concierge Ramon Romo. He went above and beyond for us during our stay. We had the good fortune to be at the resort during the Women and Traditional Cuisine event. We did not have advance reservations for the evening dinner at the restaurant Frida before we arrived, He was able to get us a table at this truly special, memorable event. This in addition to always being available, checking in and making sure our stay was all we hoped it would be. It was also an added treat to visit with him and learn a bit about his family and life outside of working at Grand Velas. The Food: I consider myself to be a bit of a foodie and the food here is something I just can’t describe. From Azul for breakfast and lunch to all of the ala cartes, all the food is delicious, beautifully presented and graciously served. As mentioned, the Women and Traditional event at Frida was amazing and we had the honor of meeting Executive Chef Guillaume Morance along with one of the women chefs. The brunch held in association with this event in the beautiful garden area, was also an experience to behold and can’t be described in a review that is running too long. In fairness, we had one small hiccup at one of the restaurants. I can’t fault the staff too much though as I think things happened that may have been out of their control. I addressed this in a survey I completed. Please understand, there was nothing about that evening that would keep me from planning my next stay. Pool/Beach: There were always chairs and umbrellas available and the Pool Concierges will assure you have just the right amount of shade/sun. I loved that they provided ice buckets with bottles of water all day while lounging at the beach and pool. This long-winded lady has gone on long enough, even though I could ramble on. Everything from the minute we arrived until we departed was perfect for us. Until next time…

My husband and I stayed at Grand Velas during the first week of Feb. We stayed at Casa Velas last year and had such a great vacation that we wanted to try the sister resort, Grand Velas (since GV gets so many rave reviews). Overall, we had a nice stay though we did experience some deficiencies which warrant a 4 star rating. Positives: What stood out for us is the food and drink quality at this resort. The quality of the meat, particularly the beef, is first-rate. A few of our favorite dishes were the fajitas at Azul, shrimp tempura at Sen Lin, filet and spaghetti bolognese at Lucca, flank steak at the Super Bowl buffet. Everything we had was very good and served at the correct temperature. I loved the coconut martinis at Koi Bar! The wait staff throughout the resort was very prompt. We never had to wait for a drink and service at the restaurants was quite efficient. Everyone was happy and seemed to enjoy their jobs. Bring lots of small bills for tipping. Our room was quiet and spacious. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. I enjoyed the "waterfall" shower. The mini-bar was refilled each day. The overall aesthetic of the resort is relaxing and pleasant. GV put on a fantastic Super Bowl party. There was a wonderful buffet with a wide variety of selections and great drink service. The spa is very nice. My husband said his pedicure was the best he's ever had. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment in Koi bar (DJ's and karaoke). Negatives: I had very high expectations for Grand Velas since we had such a wonderful experience at Casa Velas. The price is higher at GV so I thought it would be an even better experience in comparison. When we arrived at the resort, we were offered champagne or a fruit water. My husband requested a cold beer (he doesn't drink champagne) and the server told him there was no beer available until Koi Bar opened later in the day. It was strange that a simple request for a beer was denied, as the server could have simply gone to the pool bar to grab a beer. Housekeeping missed our room on our first full day at the resort. We were gone from our room from 8am-2:30pm. When we came back at 2:30pm, my husband called housekeeping to request the room be cleaned while we went to our spa appointments at 3pm. When we arrived back in our room at 5pm, the room still had not been cleaned. My husband called to request some towels and they never arrived. I had to walk down to the pool to grab towels so we could shower. We notified our concierge about the housekeeping issue and our room was finally cleaned when we were at dinner. Aside from this issue, housekeeping and turndown service was good the rest of our stay. Poolside, we asked for either grilled or fried fish tacos rather than the stewed fish tacos that are on the menu. We were told this is not possible. Shortly after we were denied this request, a man in a nearby lounger requested fried fish and the fried fish was made for him. The Koi bar needs to open earlier in the day. We experienced some rainy weather and it would have been nice to have drink service on the lobby patio during the afternoon. We had an ongoing maintenance issue with our room. We were in contact with Enrique Sinencio after we left. He was very helpful and professional in providing a fair compensation for our troubles. Despite the negative issues, we will return to Grand Velas in the future. The overall food/drink quality, service and ambiance make it worth returning in the future. Hopefully after our next stay I will be able to rate the property as "5 star".
