Wine din
Cindee K (Franktown, Colorado) on Mar 16, 2024
This is the fourth time we have visited this resort and every time it just gets better and better. This trip we did a special wine pairing dinner that was so far above and beyond any experience we have ever had that I cannot express it. If you get an opportunity, you must try it. The chefs and sommelier were exceptional! This is just an few examples of their creations.
Fantastic time. Fabulous for families!

We stayed at this resort during Spring Break 2024. Coming from a very frequent traveler to Mexico, this place is great. Cannot say enough great things about the food, the staff, and the overall accommodations. Beautiful resort!!!! The beachfront location was private and very safe. The authentic Mexican food was the best! Breakfast was incredible every day. We also loved the Japanese steakhouse and the ambience of the “train car” steakhouse. Definitely order the French onion soup at the steakhouse. The only thing we were a bit surprised about were the rooms. They could definitely use an update. However, the bed, linens, shower, etc. were fantastic and very comfortable. The hammock on the beachfront rooms patio was a plus, and I never wanted to leave! The staff was very good about not letting people save spots at the pool, which I loved because it ensured you could sit poolside on the first row. The kids’ Star Camp was also a bonus and our daughter made lots of friends. She loved the art projects they got to do, swimming, making bracelets, etc. If you are waiting for dinner one night, definitely do the bar near the lobby and ask for Hector. He makes the absolute best margaritas I’ve ever had. We would definitely go back!!!
Worst Hotel Experience of my Life
Christy N (Vancouver, Canada) on Mar 10, 2024
This was without any doubt - the absolute worst hotel/resort experience of my life and I strongly advise against booking with this hotel. The ONLY saving grace was the kids club as staff members were kind especially Regina and Martin. I booked my seven day holiday with expedia for myself and three kids 10 and under, anticipating a lovely week in the sun while my husband stayed home and worked. The problems began one week prior to departure. I suddenly received a pop up from iberostar stating my reservation was for one adult and three kids under two. My reservation with expedia was clearly for three paying aged kids and this must be a simple problem to fix, right?? Before leaving I spent nearly 10 hours on the phone with expedia trying to connect with the hotel to fix this error. No-one at the hotel would ever engage with them, answer the phone and/or be professional in any capacity. Expedia gave up, asked me to pay the hotel for the kids' meals and be reimbursed later. I agreed thinking - how much could it possibly be for three kids to eat for one week? Well after arriving late at night - the rude night manager informed me I needed to pay $4300 CAD or the kids would not be allowed on the property. Wow - not exactly the welcome of the Hyatt Ziva the year before with popsicles for the kids and warm and friendly reception. This was a shocking amount of money but with absolutely no choice - paid it. We were then led to the worst possible class of room. When booking "last available room" the Iberostar agent informed me the Sunset Room was the worst class of room so last available not a gamble -could actually be an upgrade. I believed them and booked. This was a BOLD FACE lie. My friends spent a fraction of what I spent for a sunset room which had a full ocean view. Expedia BALKED at the additional cost and could not believe it either but did reimburse me as promised. Traveling with kids? Well the kids club staff are kind and room well equipped but not a single pool at the hotel is HEATED and all pools freezing cold without a single guest enjoying them other than a quick cold plunge in and out. I never anticipated checking that a 5 star resort had a heated pool but unless you are sure Punta Mita has had a solid month of 30 degree weather the pool is ice cold. All pools at the Hyatt Ziva were heated and never even thought of that as a perk or amenity. Please also note any fun night activity that is included at EVERY other resort in Mexico is an extra cost at Iberostar. Mexican party? 30 bucks a kid. Pajama party another 30 bucks a kid. After all my hassles asked for the Mexican party to be comped. This would have cost the hotel NOTHING but they were only willing to comp one of the three kids. Refusing to give them any more money just declined and informed them of the stupidity of getting a bad review when something so small and petty could have compensated in some way. They later then did offer the pajama party but felt pretty bittersweet after such a hard fight for activities that normally are included elsewhere. The night entertainment was TERRIBLE. I mean really, really hokey apart from the very brief performance of the mariachi band. I hate to keep referring to the Hyatt Ziva but the entertainment was sooo fabulous and interesting. The shows were short and boring. My friends 7 year old son then got food poisoning for two days and vomited all over their room. After calling concierge - no help whatsoever for cleaning supplies etc. There is also insane construction happening next door with pile drivers going all hours of the construction allowed hours. The noise is deafening. Honestly - I couldn't make this review up. Please save your money and heartache and book elsewhere. This resort should be ashamed of itself declaring itself 5 star and part of a large hotel group.
Another great time at the Playa Mita
jnrbar76 (Orange County, California) on Mar 09, 2024
We just returned from our 8th trip to the Playa Mita. As usual, everything was great. We are always treated so well by the entire staff, which is why this place is so special to us. Special mention to the Mildred, Hugo, Candy and Emmanuel and Rafael for once again making sure our stay was perfect. The new special 6 course dinner option (extra charge) they offer using locally sourced food paired with Mexican wines was one of the highlights of our stay. One issue I hope Iberostar addresses soon is the capacity for club members at the rooftop lounge. As more members have discovered this little gem in the Iberostar properties, the lounge has too often become unable to handle the number of members staying at the hotel..
A most wonderful girls getaway

We do a girls getaway every 1-2 years - this being our 3rd trip and the best yet. The Iberostar Section Playa Mita is totally worth the 45 min drive from the airport. From the minute you step out of the cab - the views, the breeze, the offer of drinks, and the easy check-in - you know you are not living your normal life. The resort itself is beautiful. The grounds are well kelt - the gardens are beautiful. The staff is exceptional. We especially enjoyed HECTOR (!) our favorite bartender at the lobby bar - the best Long Island maker on the resort. Speaking of the lobby bar - the band there was exceptional. Jazzy and smooth. What a great surprise. The poolside and beach side snack areas are wonderful - fish tacos, burgers, fruit, nachos(!) Citrus infused water in addition to ICE CREAM and of course a full bar. The towel gentleman was a gem (I wish I could remember his name). The towel system with the card is genius. ?And the thin room bracelet key- so nice that it isn't a horsey bracelet that you have to wear around your wrist, they have clearly thought through the guest experience. The resort was full but it never felt unmanageable- we only had to wait one evening for dinner (10 min). We ate at all the restaurants, Japanese, Mexican, French, and Steak house. They all weren’t home runs but they were good! The buffet was well stocked and offered variety from day to day. The pool was CLEAN! The pool area was CLEAN! The rooms were CLEAN! ?We had a great time and will definitely look at Iberostar properties and likely Play Mita for our next girls getaway.
