    Disappointing - only plus is location

    If you stay here, you're paying for the location and that's about it. We booked a bay front suite for 3 nights - this was a king room on the second floor of the smaller building facing the beach. The view is great and the location can't be beat. The room was pretty old, smelled musty, and it was not well-cleaned. We found a "Medium" sticker on the counter and soda stains on the bar top - both would have been caught if there was even a perfunctory attempt at cleaning the room. The real problem occurred on the afternoon of our second day. We had checked in Wednesday night and didn't try to use the shower until Thursday afternoon. When we did, it clearly wasn't draining even a little bit. Maintenance came quickly, confirmed the issue, messed around with the shower a bit, filled the tub halfway up with dirty black and green water (!!!) and then left. Then about 10 minutes later, a bellhop came to our room with keys for a different room. He didn't know why and didn't explain, and was distressed when I asked questions. I then called the front desk, proactively, to ask what was going on. They laughed and said oh yeah didn't the shower flood in your room? Of course the answer is yes, but what I would expect from a $400+ night establishment would be at minimum a phone call apologizing for the inconvenience, explaining that they were moving my room, and perhaps a gesture like removing the daily $30 "resort fee" (for amenities that aren't even available right now, mind you) for a night to make up for the trouble. That didn't happen. I then asked what kind of room we were being moved to to ensure that we had the same type of room, and was disappointed to find that they tried to move me to a cheaper room on a different floor and weren't even going to mention it. Again, sketchy and sneaky behavior for an expensive hotel. I instead requested that I get the same room, and the front desk agent said she'd check and then call back. She then called back a few minutes later, and lo and behold! Happily she was able to find the same room after all. How disappointing that a hotel charging $400+ per night feels it necessary to try and con a guest out of the room they had paid for, and as far as I can tell, the only reason would have been to make the hotel's life easier, not mine. To add insult to injury, they tried to charge me $60 for parking that I didn't use upon checkout, and I wouldn't have caught it unless I asked for a printed itemized bill. I was really disappointed in this experience. Strongly recommend you rent one of the many beach rentals near the boardwalks instead of staying here. This hotel does not care about its guests.

    Be aware they have a resort fee ("it is in the fine print") of $100.00 a day that is due at check in. We scheduled over phone with hotel 1 month in advance. They charged double the quoted price. Rooms not cleaned daily. Definately not worth it.We had to change hotels. Rip off resort.

    The grounds are very nice and convenient to the beach by the bay. The staff seems to be nice and helpful with information. However, our room was dated, had cracked walls, and wallpaper in the bathroom needed to be clean. They do have a resort fee, but no housekeeping during your stay. Even though we had a bad room, it wasn't bad overall.

    I had an fantastic experience with Renee while making my reservation. She was very professional, friendly and went above and beyond with excellent guest services, which is very refreshing. We are looking forward to our stay at this wonderful resort in June.

    So I have been calling all over San Diego trying to find a hotel for my upcoming wedding I didn’t have any luck with the hotels in the area I called the Catamaran and spoke with Renee and she was the sweetest kindest warmest individual she’s so knowledgeable and good at her job I instantly knew that was the place we wanted to get a room she was so knowledgeable of the resort and all the amenities and everything that it offered it really sold out I’m going with them
