I went together with my family () and a friend couple to visit Havana for 3 days in the end of august. We stayed at Melia Tryp havana libre. The first impression is great! An impressively wide open atrium awaits you at the entrance. When the hotel opened back in the 1950’s, its architecture was considered “state-of-the-art”. Historic photographs hang on the walls showing Fidel Castro and his troops in the first days of the revolution. We were given modern rooms at the 23rd floor, fully equiped with air conditioning and TV plasma screen. The view over the city is amazing. But not better than the one in the last floor. Definitely worth a visit!! All the staff is friendly and willing to assist you. We would like to give a speciall thanks to Danielle at the reception and Daniel at the breakfast room for being so helpful. The only downside are the elevators. Just 3 working in a hotel with such large occupation is really not enough. Once, we had to wait more than 15 min. to enter in one. Appart from this, I recommend this hotel for a short stay (2-3 days) in Havana.

I am currently staying at the hotel, have been in Cuba for 8 days now, spend 2 in Melia Cohiba and 6 in Melia Las Americas, must say that the service in those was great. I have no idea how Melia/Tryp has their name on Habana Libre. The service has been horrible, the gentleman at the front desk Humberto was very dismissive when we were checking in, there was a couple next to us who he was paying more attention too while we were checking in, instead of finishing with us. We got a room in the 19th floor, the hallways are dirty, carpets are truly disgusting, the room itself has an awesome view and the beds are comfortable, everything else is about 80 years old, from the furniture to the beat up bathroom to the fact that the AC doesn’t blow, went to tell Humberto and he was hiding like he didn’t want to talk to us. The lady wendolyn I think was her name had an attitude that we were having issues with the air conditioner. The light switches in the room do not work so we have to turn the lights on by hand which it’s not a huge problem. Cohiba and Las Americas we had the WiFi free, here we have to buy the 1 hour card while Humberto was giving the full day cards to the previous couple mentioned. Have taken three showers already in less than 3 hours because the room is super hot, their way to fix the issue is telling us to wait until someone leaves. If you don’t want to work, let someone else take it. There are a bunch of people in Cuba waiting for a job like this. Valet parking is closed because they are doing renovations but the parking people were helpful, probably the only good thing about this hotel so far. It seems like the hotel is undergoing renovations but if that’s the case, I wouldn’t have people stay in these crappy rooms and if they are like in my case, not the price that they are charging. For $150 a night, I expect much better service and treatment than I have received. I come to visit family for a few weeks a year and will never stay in this hotel again.

We just got back from our trip to Havana Cuba, June 10, 2019. The first four days we stayed at this hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! First of all and where do I start: The panhandlers and taxi drivers accosting you when you first get there, the hotel front desk was rude and non interested in your questions. The room looked ok but the two double beds where pushed together!! Why? When you ordered two beds! No room to separate the beds either. TV remote did not work, it took many attempts with maintenance to finally get a working remote. The view from the 2-inch balcony was great bc we were on that side. Speaking on the night, the roaches came out in numbers. Thankfully I had brought peppermint spray and eucalyptus oil for the mosquitos and fly's so we were able to keep them at bay. The pool was nice but it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. We were able to get free breakfast which was great, to order omelets, and a bunch of other stuff. Go out the hotel and make a right at corner, go down two blocks to the open market, souvenirs are much cheaper. I will stay at the Nacional Hotel from now on, old world charm and upscale.

This review is a little late as my daughter and I stayed at this hotel last summer around Aug, 2018. We stayed at the Level accommodation and we were quite happy with the room. The hotel is a little dated and overall it needs some work. I believe the best way to stay here is to upgrade to The Level. What made this stay special for us was the way we were treated by three of the employees. One was Danielle in customer service along with Daiyana and Yadira. All three were very professional and more than willing to attend to any need we had. They made sure we were comfortable and that we had all that we needed for our stay. We had the breakfast buffet and we found that it had a nice variety of food, the restaurant was clean and were immediately attended by the friendly staff. It's employees like these that despite the condition of the hotel try and make your stay a warm and welcomed one. Thank you!
