We were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews, but we went ahead and booked a 2 week stay. We were looking for a smaller, quieter hotel with a more local island feel and we found that here. This is the charm of Halcyon Cove and some of the staff that we encountered made us feel very welcome to be there as their guests. I will mention their names later. It is very important that you know what you are looking for in a hotel before you book. If you pay 3* prices, then you should not expect 5* amenities. Due to the fact it is not a huge resort with hundreds and hundreds of guests, the food choices are more limited but we found more than enough to choose from and never had to walk away feeling hungry at any time. Continuous loud music all day and night, you will not find here. Most nights there is some sort of entertainment like a live band and a DJ. Activies during the day are available but are more low key and you can participate if you want to or not at all. The Poolview rooms are the best rooms. It is not worth the extra expense for an Oceanview room as the pool view rooms are much nicer. Thanks to: Debbie in Reception who always asked if everything was OK. Devon, the Food and Beverage Manager who worked tirelessly. Ladonna at the Towel Hut who always had a smile on her face to greet everyone. Fenton, the Guest Services Manager who was very welcoming and good at his job. Michael, the Duty Manager who ensured that we enjoyed our stay. Wait staff, Steve, Marguetette, Roxanne and Daisilyn who worked continuously in the restaurant to keep the guests fed. Janet in Housekeeping. The location and beach is beautiful. Yes, the hotel is dated and tired but we heard that much need renovations are scheduled for this spring.

As I do for all my stays, I did some research on this property from Trip Advisor. Based on the low scores, I had my concerns. But decided to give it a try since I was only visiting for two nights. Well that was two nights too many. I have never felt dirtier staying at a property. I actually chose to bath in the ocean (as odd as that sounds) to avoid stepping in their rusty shower. Aside from the rust, and the HUGE dead roach just chilling in the middle of the room, the water was coming out brown from the sink. Another challenge for showering was the lack of towels. They provide you with one face towel and another larger towel. Not very convenient when there are two of you. Don't bother calling reception as there are no phones in the room. I decided to air dry after my cleansing in the ocean. Probably better off as I found several little hairs on the towel they provided us. Last comment about the room, don't bother turning on the TV. Every channel is scrambled. This was the least of my concern though. Now for the food.... Well let's just say I decided to eat offsite every meal (except for one). Kind of unfortunate though given this was an all-inclusive property. They only offer a few hours per day for meals, then the kitchen closes. Don't expect food around the clock. But then again, after the quality of food I saw (and tasted), you're certainly better off outside the hotel. Speaking of all-inclusive, non-motorized water sports are provided!! But unfortunately the shop is never open. I was told to just grab a paddle board on my own. Well that worked out great for about 20 ft until the board sunk. How is that even possible?! Sadly this was the quality of all their equipment. Last comment, as I know it's getting to be a bit much, their service level was atrocious. Everyone looked extremely angry and was very unhelpful. Certainly not the Caribbean energy one would expect. I realize my feedback is a bit harsh. But every detail provided is 100% accurate. Feel free to peek at my other reviews. I've got quite a few amazing experiences, so this is not a case of some "disgruntled" guest. I partly knew what I was in for. I just wish I would have really known the severity of what I was getting. Hopefully this will aide travelers considering this property.

We had a great time. Beaches were beautiful. Lots of water sports offered. We particularly enjoyed the aqua fit classes in the morning with Dave. Excellent workout, he made it fun. I’d go back again just for that.

A few of the reviews had us worried but we are so happy we took the risk and stayed at this resort. Yes, the rooms are dated but you cannot pay 3* prices and expect 5* accommodations! Our check-in was quick and the desk clerk was very pleasant. The beach is amazing and we were always able to find a lounger. The pool is just big enough and again we were always able to find a chair. The aqua aerobics at the pool everyday are entertaining to watch even if you don't participate. The food is probably the best we have had at an all inclusive resort and we have stayed at many. I must mention Heather at the lobby bar who always has a big smile and remembers your name as well as your usual drink. The resort is low key, not a lot of loud entertainment but we prefer that. All in all we had a wonderful week and we will return!

Well I will give their marketing person more points then my actual stay cuz they convinced us to stay here with the great pics they portrayed! To start off, we got to Antigua later than planned so when we checked in around 11:30pm we filled out a small form, signed a waiver releasing them of ANY liability if things go missing or stolen and then direct us to our "beachfront room" which actually overlooked the back patio/grill area with no view even during the day of the beach. The room itself was spacious, incredibly outdated like from 50+ years ago, no fans in any room for circulation but they did have tiny little screens so you could hear the Gardner or guests walking past while trying to sleep in the next day. Creepy! Drainage in the shower was the worst I've ever seen, ever! The whole place could use a HUGE makeover. The beach is small but very pretty and relaxing. The wood umbrella things they have are good for shade but those are run down too, plus they echo when you try to talk to the person next to you. Internet is ok at best. The hairdryer they provide is lousy, no iron or board to look halfway decent for dinner or just to look nice. Food....well breakfast was actually much better than any dinner we had their. Not impressed at all with the variety or flavor. Hardly anything to choose from. That is NOT a good buffet! The cute restaurant on the pier is reservation only as we found out when we were turned away when the room was empty!!! There were several things we were NOT told of when we got their, reservations being one of them. And a towel card?? While getting our virgin piña colada the bar manager almost yelled at me for using the bath towel bc that's all we had and proceeded to tell me that I needed to get a towel from the towel hut. Ok so I go to the hut and now I'm supposed to show a punch card that I don't have bc no one gave us one for our brief 4 day stay! It's all just a mess and unnecessary hassle to be here. Not trying to put this place down and be a downer but you would think for the money ppl spend to even get here and be in an all inclusive resort, things just would have been better. Having been to other all inclusive resorts with much better food, service and communication, I would not choose this resort ever again.
