This review will not be typical as the week we were there things were slowing down due to the virus outbreak. Despite knowing they would be laid off the next week the staff remained polite, professional and committed to keeping our holiday enjoyable. Anna (restaurant greeter) was a prime example of them being well trained. The room was clean and well equipped, the facilities are great, the beach is great. Enjoyed the bowling alley and beer bar. Food was good in all 7 restaurants that we tried and no problems booking. Entertainments team did their best to keep us occupied. Good selection of drinks - 6 house wines, basic spirits in the room, premium spirits in the bars, Banks beer everywhere. There was plenty of space and lots of loungers with shade but that could be different if the resort was full. Several swimming pools. One negative was the so-called ocean view from our room - see the picture. Just select the room facilities you want - it doesn't matter whether you are in the "Royal" part or not as you can't see the join between the two resorts. The club sandals concierge facility was good; having a butler is not necessary as we wouldn't want to be followed around.

Arrived at the hotel to be greeted by staff singing and welconing us to Barbados......checked in and then went to our room which overlooked the gardens and swimming pool in a quietish area of the complex. Room was very spacious with large bed..........plenty of storage space........large bathroom and toilet and a balcony with a tub on it. Also include in the room was a mini bar and premium spirits, a safe, tea and coffee facilities and an iron and ironing board, although surprisingly for a 5 star hotel there were no slippers availabe....but dressing gowns were but seemed to be of a poor quality..apparently slippers were only in the butler rooms. This hotel had numerous bars and restaurants and you could also dine at the resturants next door at Sandals Barbados.......some restaurants have to be booked and be aware of the dress codes for men. Food was of a very high standard although in a couple of the eateries service was very disappointing and it seemed those with butler service got preferential treatment when it came to having drinks refilled......we had to keep asking for our glasses to be filled. Whilst some staff were genuine with their "your welcome" I feel others were just going through the motions. Due to very low occupancy night time entertainment was low key. There is on site a 4 lane bowling alley which proved popular. The beach was fantastic and there were during our stay plenty of sunbeds availabe. The same goes for the pools but I would imagine had this complex been operating to full capacity then getting a bed may be slightly more of a challenge. The beach/bar service was virtually non existant and again seemed to favour those in butler rooms There is a spa and gym on site and also a resort shop for nik naks The grounds are kept immaculate and very clean This was our first visit to a Sandals resort..........despite being told by staff because "we were there they were there" at times we were made to feel like a slight inconvienience . We understand that staff were devestated to hear that due to the Coronavirus the complex was closing down and we were disappointed to learn our holiday was being cut short due to restrictions back home. and because of this our last 2 days there were slightly tarnished by a couldnt care less attitude. We were offered credit for the 4 nights we were losing but we wanted to take the details home with us to discuss with our tour operator. This seemed to cause an issue with the front desk who finally agreed this could be done On the whole this was a very good hotel and in different circumstances and at full capacity I have no doubt in believing it would be buzzing and jumping. Once the crisis regartding Covid-19 is done and dusted we would return to see the real Sandals Royal Barbados Lastly......there was some confusion regarding tipping.........on the web page is says that tipping is strictly forbidden except maybe for butlers.......but across the complex it was claearly going on.......now..... is it forbidden or not.........we did tip on a few occasions due to good service and the fact others were as well

Resort Property - 5 Star. We've been to Sandals in Jamaica (Negril) and St Lucia (La Toc). The resort property itself at Sandals Barbados will not disappoint. The two Sandals resorts are essentially one. Kudos to the grounds crew. Food - I would rate the food overall as 3.5 star. If you're a food snob, you will be disappointed. If you haven't had the chance to enjoy a lot of upscale dining you will likely be very pleased with the food options and quality. If you're somewhere in between, you will rate it just like I did.....3.5 stars. Acceptable. Not memorable. Service - 3 star (at best) overall. The check-in was great. The room service (food) was very good. The maid service was average. The maintenance staff was non-responsive to our plumbing repair request even though we called 3 times. The poolside wait staff was the worst I've seen at ANY all-inclusive, much less a "5-Star" Sandals. We were on site for 7 nights and were literally served 2 cocktails poolside. Consider it self-service and when you go to the bar, do not expect them to be in a hurry. If we decide not to return in the future, this will be the reason. Friendliness - 3 star. I cant say tat anyone was rude or unfriendly at this resort. It's just that they were obviously not interested in putting forth the effort to provide a high-level of customer service. As a result, their complacency sometimes came across as if the guest were bothersome.......particularly at the bars and poolside lunch spots. They need a pep-talk! All in all, it was a very good trip. Great property. Beautiful weather. Decent food. Marginally acceptable service. Temper your expectations as far as food and service goes and you will be fine. If you want 5 star, this isn't it! Off-site, Flower Cave on the north side of the island is worth the drive.

IF you are looking for a 5 star resort this is NOT it. We stayed in Club suite with pool at our doorsteps. It was filthy. After 4 days I asked Club employee if ever cleaned. Finally someone came by and cleaned. Lounge chairs were filthy. Dried blood on our room darkening curtain. Stains on carpet. Room smelled musty. Hand dryer in ladies room at pool broken. NO paper towels after Day 3. Then NO tissues. Reported multiple times with no correction. Electrical outlet was hanging off wall in ladies room across from the cupcake place.Staff walking around very pleasant. Resort itself is beautiful but landscapers leave yard waste behind so you are walking through grass clippings, etc. Suggestion for management: Send all of your employees back for customer service training i.e.: SMILE. At the American Tavern I actually asked one server if she was feeling well bc she was so miserable. One server there Patricia was WONDERFUL and we made sure management knew. btw - Good luck getting to the beach unless you have a butler. We were there 7 nights and had one late afternoon. No employees walk around beach area p/u used towels throughout the day to ensure guests know which chairs are available. As it was I was up and at the pool at 7 a.m. to save a chair! Ridiculous. NO entertainment. Period. We were up at the rooftop bar nightly with a large crowd as there is NOTHING to do. Restaurants. Based on other reviews I had my list of restaurants to request reservations at check-in. Gave the list to Club employee and he said "all restaurants are booked for next 2 weeks". I said "I booked this vacation 11 months ago, it is my birthday tomorrow so please figure it out." By end of day we had 4 reservations (all at 6p.m.). Honestly overall the food was mediocre. French restaurant breakfast and dinner excellent. Ditto Chophouse. And Monkey. American Tavern breakfast good. We did take a private tour with Nigel. It was excellent. We would absolutely go back to Barbados but never this resort.

This was our fourth visit to a Sandals resort and by far the most disappointing. The resort itself was beautiful, the swim up lagoon room was great and the food was good. The service however was terrible. The staff for the most part were unfriendly and rarely smiled. The concierge service was not at a level for a 5 star resort. We were passed over twice for lunch at the pizza place. People came and were seated after us on two occasions and were served and left before we received our meals. They forgot our order on both occasions. We lined up on two occasions for at least 20 minutes for breakfast buffet at the American tavern, yet there were multiple empty tables. No explanation for the wait. Then cafe Paris running out of chocolate crepes and chocolate topping. The pizza place running out of Pinot Grigio. I could go on and on but no point really. Sherry the food and beverage manager did make things a little better for us by providing us with a free dinner on the beach and decorating our room for our birthdays. This is a 5 star property with a max 3 star service. We didn’t feel like we were at a sandals. We previously did sandals Jamaica, sandals royal Bahamian and sandals grande st. Lucian. We had nothing but excellent service at these three resorts and that’s what makes our experience at Sandals Royal Barbados so Disappointing. We will not return to sandals royal Barbados. We did however book sandals Montego bay and for 2022 and expect a much better experience.
