Great Hospitality and Hakka was great!

Tomara B on Apr 12, 2024

This was our first all inclusive trip. The staff and location were great! It is a small resort and the staff were friendly, professional and attentive. We enjoyed room service, NUUP Spa, the pool and the beach. We thought the food was great and Our favorite was HAKKA! Chef Luis and Chef Colon were amazing! Our waiter Maricello was great too. In addition, we enjoyed the snack bar/coffee shop! We took a day trip to Isla Mujeres through Amstar and a shopping trip to La Isla via public bus. Not sure we really got our money’s worth for an all inclusive but we did enjoy our stay! The entertainment was basically singers/music in the evening by the Lobby bar. The hospitality by the staff was the best part! The resort seemed tired in some spaces but it was always clean!!!

A gem for an easy trip

Forkingever (Washington, Virginia) on Apr 12, 2024

I travel a lot and factor price and inconvenience into my ratings. This is a five star for me. A lot of the resorts are charging five star *secrets* prices and delivering a three star experience. The resort is not too big so the service is unbeatable. The drinks and food are better than a jumbo resort such as a secrets. Nice beach and a gorgeous view from inspiria suite. The pool is smaller but it is very clean and has shade at different times because of the buildings. The guests were very easy to converse with and everyone this resort attracted had some level of respect for each other. The entertainment was top notch. Quality professional entertainment every night and the pool team entertainment was of the best I’ve experienced in twenty years traveling. My only con is the resort needs some maintenance but this is very true for almost any resort I’ve stayed at.

DO NOT STAY HERE - Awful Hotel!

Emily S on Apr 12, 2024

DO NOT STAY HERE - Awful Hotel! Please please DO NOT stay at this hotel. We were sold this as a luxury hotel by Virgin, and this is far from luxury! The pictures online are very very outdated I can only imagine they were taken when the hotel was first opened as it’s nothing like that now! The smell of sewerage throughout the hotel is awful. The bathroom in our bedroom was dirty and the shower just leaked all over the bathroom floor. The food was awful please be careful that you don’t get food poisoning, we ordered chips to our room to make sure we wouldn’t get ill. There was also a complete lack of sun beds, tables and chairs for the amount of guests staying at the hotel, it’s completely overcrowded. Virgin and the hotel guest manager will have no interest in trying to make your stay any better. Certainly not a couples type hotel, more of an 18-30’s place. This hotel was so awful we had to pay more money on top of what we already paid to come home early. There are so many other reviews that are so similar to this one, I can see the hotel do reply advising they take feedback seriously, please know they do not, I let them know of all these details when we were at the hotel, they ignored everything I said and just wanted to sell us an excursion.

Positive Experience at the Oleo

Marjorie M on Apr 10, 2024

Four of us travelled from Ottawa to the Oleo for one week in March '24. We did the research and read pages and pages of reviews. We weren't disappointed. This is a 4 star hotel with 5 star staff. We paid the extra for Inspira and we were glad that we did because we liked having our own area on the beach. Only downside is that you do have to save your chairs. (We put our towels on the chairs at 7:00am and went back to bed for an hour.) This is a busy hotel with lots of people by the pool. Music and games throughout the day so it's noisy. If this is not your thing and you don't like the beach then this is not the hotel for you because there is only one pool. The beach was cleaned of seaweed every morning and there were enough chairs for everybody when we were there. You can walk for miles on the beach. We had no issues with the food. The buffet is not very big and I agree with some negative comments about it not being set up very well. There are times (especially at breakfast) that it is awkward to serve yourself food because the line-up for an omelet blocks the hot food that you may wish to access. However, the food was good and there was plenty. There are two restaurants (besides the buffet) and both were excellent. We enjoyed the Sushi very much and went back often! The coffee bar is excellent, the bartenders were great and the amazing service in the Inspira section of the beach by Enrique was nothing short of fabulous. Enrique, you made our trip!! We treated ourselves to a day at the spa with massages. We were all very impressed with our treatments and the opportunity to spend the day by a much quieter pool (within the spa). Shout out to Cristina for giving me one of the best massages I've every had. She's fabulous!! Across the street from the hotel is a fantastic restaurant called "Navios" . We went twice, once for just cocktails (so worth it) and once for dinner. I highly, highly recommend that you treat yourself to this restaurant.

Honest review - positives & negatives

Emily H on Apr 05, 2024

Okay, I would like to give a very honest review of different aspects of OLEO. Location - BEAUTIFUL beach, woke up in the mornings to watch the birds dive into the ocean, sunrise was stunning - my favourite part Hotel - nice enough.. not amazing, need more ‘communal’ spaces to have a drink outside or seated areas round the pools etc. gym was basic. We was in tower 1 and it felt very dated. Rooms - clean, big, and aesthetically nice! we got INSPIRA junior suite that didn’t come with a balcony.. kinda gutted, and the insulation between rooms was shocking! (Why are the suites interlocking rooms??) Kept us up! Could hear our Neigbour’s music and talking, etc.. we went to reception and was told not much they can do, I think they could see how upset I was as I’d brought my bf for his 30th and said come back in the morn to see the manager, to be told the same thing or pay an extra 1k for room upgrade. Absolutely not worth it. Food - repetitive, but it was ok. The sushi restaurant I think made my boyfriend unwell in all honesty - he was unwell 4 days of the holiday - we spoke to someone else at the hotel round the pool and he said the exact same thing regarding unwell after sushi. INSPIRA - not worth it if I’m being honest.. didn’t get drink on arrival, the INSPIRA beach bit is good but people who aren’t on that package took up beds anyway which wasn’t corrected by staff so we ended up not having a bed a few days. Overall, I wanted to be honest as I had read some amazing reviews on here thinking it’s going to be a beaut resort with amazing food and a bit more luxury than it is. The staff are lovely, hotel is a bit dated, absolutely 0 thrills experience and all in all left feeling a bit meh. If I knew what I know now I’d have booked another hotel. Would I stay again as a couple? - no probably not… I was just expecting a bit more x
