Hotel : it's brand new, rooms are beautiful and large, cleaning everyday, never found any bug (like some reviews said), very warm welcome with mimosa drinks and dancers. Pools: clean and beautiful, a lot of space with a beach beds Beach; needs to improve of course (it's in reconstruction as I saw workers around) but you can always go to the Gran Muthu hotel on the corner that has an amazing beach. Food: only 3 of ala carte were open but there is no high season yet so understandable. Main restaurant has everyday similar food but the cooks can prepare you food exactly as you like it (just ask them nicely) :) fresh fruits and vegetables, meet and sea food served everyday. Drinks ; hugeeeeeee choice of drinks. There are 6 bars (snack bar opened 24h) . I drink specific alcohol and I was always satisfied. Try their Cuban drink "cancharancha" - is just delicious! 24h snack bar : for night eaters like me it's an amazing option. I just wish there was bigger menu, not just fast food :) And now the biggest of them all ; hotel stuff!!!! I travel a lot but I've never meet so many amazing people in one place! Williams, Ismary, Lisa, Pedro and others from entertainment are just the best, but also bartenders and weitresses. Always so kind and helpful even for the most annoying customers. Safety ; generally all this small island that resorts are in is super safe. There is a bridge between Cuba and island and only workers and tourists can pass thru . So no need to be worried at all. Transport : there is no transport around. to get to playa pilar you need to take taxi 5 CUC each person one way.. As well there is no transport to Cayo coco or even Morón - it would be nice to have bus to Morón for tourists from all of the hotels around to know the real Cuba. Info for the hotel managers : 1.Room service - on the 5star hotel its a must to have possibility to call for room service. Please work on it. 2.Keep your workers happy, they are just more than amazing and make your guest stay even more fabulous. I'll be back for sure! :)

    Nice week away..

So...start with the good This resort was immaculately kept clean The grounds are the best maintained grounds of any Cuban resort we've been to to date! The grounds even got sprayed for mosquitoes twice while we where there. The pools were again very clean and well maintained.....(but cold) Our room was cleaned exceptionally everyday by Jasmine. Drinks where plentiful with lots of options Now the not so... As everyone seems to state.. No beach in front of the resort but there is to the left.....if they took as much pride in cleaning the beach as they did the grounds it would go a long way to please more visitors!! The food...... For the most part it was decent The stir fry station and pizza station where very good. Rigoberto did a great job with pizza's and making our morning eggs and cooking our bacon more But the rest of the food tended to be cold and very repetitive. With alot of seafood and rice. One very big bright spot for us with the buffet was Yanexy and Yanet. These two ladies where exceptional. Always polite and always on top of everything. They always took care of us during breakfast and lunch. We even had it set up with a little flower arrangement on our 2nd last day before we even got there. But the dinner crew was definitely not up to the same standards. No where near as good. The animation crew did a great job keeping people up and interactive all week long. We werent doing the activities but definitely talked and did things still with the team. At one point in the week just in conversation it was figured out by one of the animation crew that we where getting short changed everyday in our room fridge. Everyday your fridge was to be filled with 2 pop,2 beer and 1 large bottle of water. Not once in the first 4 days was this the case. Liuba was informed and customer service was made aware of the issue. It was fixed for 1 day and then back to being short changed again... To me not a big deal but I would assume that the crew that fills the fridges are up to something as our room wasnt the only one having this happen to them! I was told after we left Saturday that it was being brought up in a management meeting Saturday morning Liuba and customer service informed me they would get back to me about a possible return to the resort....we've only been gone a few days as of now But no response yet This resort "could" be a very good resort with a few changes I guess time will tell

Good and not so good - ongoing concerns

The resort, rooms, pools, staff are wonderful. Cons ... almost open a year now and ala carte dinners not open as advertised and those that are are poor, except for the Chinese aka carte. Beach, people come to Cuba for this and resort has received consistent negative feedback. Buffet, repetitive and hit & miss. And restaurants are open and closed depending on how many people are there. You will not get repeat customers and good 'word of mouth' if you short change vacationers. It is a beautiful resort though, staff are eager to please. Hopefully resort will improve food and beach to better reflect the 4-5 star rating that they are advertising.

The infinity pools here are the best I've ever used. You feel like you're swimming in an endless lake. Best of all, they're opened from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (other resorts take note) Great staff and spotlessly clean but the food--particularly in the ala cartes--really needs some spicing up. Also, no beach directly in front of the resort and the beach to the west is kind of weedy. There is a good beach to the right (east) where you can walk for miles but it's accessible only by walking through the sister Muthu Grand resort and no one tells you about this option.

We ended up at this resort after a no so pleasant experience at another location. The room was very neat, comfortable and most importantly, CLEAN! The staff were helpful, accommodating and polite. The food I would consider to be average or a little better, but repetitive. For the most part we waited a few minutes in line and had the staff cook, the meat, poultry or fish in view. The buffet was interesting but nothing exciting. The snack bar could use in help with food preparation. The one hamburger we had was cooked beyond recognition and not really edible. Went to the buffet to finish lunch. Again Cuba is a smokers paradise as you can virtually smoke anywhere. For a non smoker it is a tough place to get fresh air or not have the smell of smoke wafting in the air. We found it to be expensive given what the people are paid. The convertible currency is just a money grab for the government. Cuba will not be on my list of places to return. Boomer N
