Worst Hyatt customer service experience
altatahoe (Seattle, Washington) on Mar 22, 2024
We are Explorists and this was the worst Hyatt experience we've ever had. We arrived in the evening and the clerk at the front desk saw us and then went into a back room. She didn't come out for several minutes to check us in. The "upgrade" was a joke. We were given the room furthest from the lobby at the end of the building. Next to our room door were broken chairs and a bunch of junk. The "patio" faced a mound of grass. The property itself looks like a Days Inn motel and you are not near the beach. Next time we'll stay in Huntington Beach.
We do not recommend this hotel.

This was definitely the worst Hyatt we have stayed at. We usually love staying at Hyatt. We made our reservation through Expedia and made the request that we were in a room that was animal free. The front desk said that because we emailed the hotel through Expedia, they did not get it. The woman told us there was one room left and they were booked. Online, it showed there were still rooms available so still not sure why we couldn't switch rooms. Our room smelled kinda like dog pee. Seriously. We kept the window open and asked to switch rooms. We mentioned we would pay more to upgrade our room. The woman said the only room they had left was handicapped so since it was late we stayed. It gets worse. There were only sheets on the bed. They brought us blankets and a comforter. The comforter was covered in stains. See attached photos. The comforter smelled clean but it looked like hot sauce or blood was on many different parts. The shower didn't drain and mini fridge didn't work. Newport is gorgeous, we loved the beach. I still can't believe this was a Hyatt. We stayed in a room with two double beds overlooking the pool. Maybe other parts of the hotel are nicer?
Lovely property, fantastic staff, OK room.

Would have given 5 stars if this were a category 3 hotel. I felt the rooms were a cat 3 and the rest of the experience was a category 5. I recommend this hotel for families. If you're going as a couple or adult friend group, I would request rooms with privacy and/or on the top floor. Experience was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. I can't remember names but we interacted with many in every department, and everyone was fantastic. I'm injured so I had some extra request and they easily accommodated us. 1st night had extremely noisy children running around on the floor above us nonstop, so intensely that it shook our room. Called security at 1030PM when it wouldn't stop, and they investigated and asked them to stop. Hotel offered to move us the next day or ensure that no one was above us the next night. We stayed in the room and had a quiet/restful sleep the next night with no one above us. Breakfast exceeded expectations. Sit outside if you can for peace/ambiance. Inside felt chaotic with many families before 930. The staff was friendly and fast. We enjoyed all our dishes. I liked the veggie benedict and green goodness smoothie for something healthy. Huevos rancheros were the best ones I've ever had. Breakfast was included in our stay, so it was "free." Would have ventured off property at least 1/2 the time if we didn't get it for free. Property had fun activities (giant chess, shuffleboard), 3 pools/spas so you could usually find privacy. Gym was small, clean and had everything you need. We really liked all the nature around the property and enjoyed going for walks. Room smelled clean but didn't (energetically) feel the cleanest. Wearing shoes was required and we were carful where to place our things so they didn't fall on the ground. Mattress, bedding and pillows were comfortable for a cat 4 hotel. We got a good night's sleep.

Great hotel with wonderful staff! I highly recommend this establishment. I was greeted daily with genuine friendly staff members and housekeepers. They were engaging, fun spirited, and I enjoyed the small conversations I was able to have with many of them. The baristas were absolutely lovely and made delicious lattes for me each morning. And was given a rose by the front desk ladies on International Women's Day. That was such a sweet gesture.
Not the place to rent if you want to sleep

So this hotel definitely needs upgrades to their walls. As others have noted, they are extremely thin and it's more like a motel vs a hotel and certainly not the same caliber of a Hyatt Regency brand that you would expect. The pricing seemed reasonable at first during an off season time frame during the week but keep in mind they add in a $40 day 'resort fee' (plus $4 tax on that) and there really is nothing at all i can see 'resort' like at this place. Plus $47 per night for valet parking (but only "$40" for self parking) - i honestly wouldn't have even minded the extra charges if there was a way to possibly get sleep. I could completely hear the family conversation of the kids and parents next door, and there was a big opening at the bottom of the door to the room (#119 i believe) so you heard every footstep/conversation as someone walked by. In addition, the people in and out above us got up at 4 am and stomped around - then the next people coming in were up till 1 am. I don't normally give negative reviews but if you are booking a hotel for a place to sleep, i would definitely consider an alternative place. FYI, I did talk to a staff member at the front desk to try to get a different room and was told there was no other availability and nothing they could do.
