Cute Hotel but wouldn't stay here again

The GOOD: It's VERY cute! It's themed great, very clean, and Disney Characters visit regularly for impromptu meet and greets. The staff is mostly friendly (grocery delivery not so much). Food is pretty good! Desserts are delish! We loved the online check in process. THE BAD: Room: We stayed in the mermaid rooms - YES they are SUPER far away from everything, forget walking forever to refill a resort mug....Not worth it. The walk is treacherous for tired feet. There are no basic room options that are closer. So if you're not staying in a family suite in Lion King, or Nemo, Cars, you will walk for miles to get to the food, the drinks and the transportation. I didn't see ANY shuttles to aid this. We knew the mermaid rooms were far, but had no way to prepare for how far. The rooms are small and nothing special. We ended up using the ironing board for additional storage space since there is no surface area to set things on. Also we put in room requests as soon as we could and also submitted specific room requests via "Touring Plans" requesting pool view, close to transportation, and neither were honored. We were placed on a high level room with no view on the back of the building. Transportation: While this may not actually be the fault of the hotel, I feel like someone at Art of Animation REALLY ticked off someone at Disney transportation department. Every Art of Animation bus stop is the furthest from park entrance. You literally have to walk a mile just to get to and from your bus. Why, when it's not the lowest level resort. I can't figure it out. I also don't understand why they couldn't pull up to the entrance drive closest to drop us off at the parks. Even while I understand that bus pick-ups have to be at a specific spot, why on earth couldn't they pull up to the entrance for drop off when arriving to the parks. Also, every bus driver was rude, and packed us completely like sardines....Disney needs to fix this. Riding the bus was a terrible experience all around and I would not EVER consider it a benefit from staying at the resorts. The transportation in and of itself is the number one reason we would never stay at Art of Animation again. We missed the skyliner opening by 1 week. Grocery delivery: Yep we paid for it, and even paid extra for it to be delivered to the room. It said nowhere that we had to be in the room for groceries to be delivered and weren't told this when I confirmed I didn't need to be in the room with Bell Services after picking up our stroller.....But 3 hours after not receiving our food, I was told that indeed we did need to be in our room. We had to wait in there for an hour for someone to show up when we could have been enjoying the resort (note the walk above). Cleanliness: So yes, above, I said the resort was clean....except when I saw poo (yes poo) in the splash pad area. I immediately notified a cast member.....but it still took over a half an hour for them to clean it up. They did place a cast member there to guard the poo while waiting for someone to clean it....so there's that. This was my first time visiting Disney with my family, and while our experience was overall good, the hotel did not do it any favors. We chose this resort specifically because of its theme, which was great, but certainly not worth the bad. We'll stay somewhere else in the future.

I'll start with the not-as-great and then give the great at the bottom. First: I called ahead an asked for a crib. She noted my request, but it was not in the room. Second: Walls are thin, which means you hear others, but are also pretty aware of how loud your kids are getting, and shushing them so as not to disturb the neighbors. Third: The walk from The Little Mermaid is a looong one. I requested either a room with a lake view or close to transportation and got neither. We were in bldg 8, the farthest back. ASK FOR a room closest to Lion King if you're staying in The Little Mermaid section. The other sections are not too bad from Nemo (biggest pool, food court, transportation, front desk, gift shop). If anyone from the resort is reading this, PLEASE put in a drink station in the Mermaid section so we can refill our mugs. Thanks! Okay, the GOOD: The theming is great. So many details outside and inside of the rooms. Disney really goes all out, and this was perfect for our kids' first stay at a Disney resort. The food was pretty good. TBH, I wasn't expecting much from the food court, but every meal we got there was solid. Try the fish! Access to the Skyliner is worth every penny for the rooms here. We took buses to MK and AK, but the ease and efficiency of the Skyliner to HS and Epcot are awesome. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful, especially Ruth at the front desk. We love our stay, and when I mentioned to my wife planning a trip in 2 years, I asked which resort. She said "Art of Animation. Let's make it a tradition." I think we will.

Coming into this property for the first time can be a bit overwhelming, it's really expansive. We were though immediately taken care by the door greeters and other outside staff. The customer support at front desk is impressive. We stayed in the first building of Cars which while still not super close was not bad for getting back and forth to the main pool and lobby building. Outside the buildings is something like being in cartoon set the kids loved it. The interior of the building is quite plain and honestly doesn't match the rest of the resort or rooms. We found our room to really well laid out, very cute Cars motif with comfortable beds. We loved the extra pillows, H2O amenities, the dinnerware for the kitchen. The room doors are very quiet so you don't pick up much hall noise you would expect to find in a family resort. Some minor things that didn't align with the family experience was the refrigerator is really quite small with very odd storage that made storage difficult and the bathtub in the main bathroom was extremely small which made it very wet when small kids took a bath. We did love the convenience of the laundry room, the big pool, the cool arcade, the ease of transportation on both the buses and the skyline. We super loved the big pool bar with the wonderful staff and delicious cocktails when the nanny managed to get the kids down to sleep! The attention to detail and enjoyment the resort brought to the kids makes this a winner. We likely will be returning in the next couple of years to this property.

Well here we go again, stayed here back in August 2019, the resort is super cute! Very kid friendly and the decor is done with larger than life type replicas of some of Disney's biggest hit movies. It is separated into 4 sections....Cars, Finding Nemo, The Lion King and the Little Mermaid, We have stayed in little mermaid twice (and yes, it's quite a bit of distance walk to the main pool, food, buses etc), and the cars section too. This trip we stayed in the finding nemo section. Its the closest to the big blue pool, food, buses and main "hub". The area was showing some wear and tear, some pretty big stains on the carpet leading to the room and also the carpet in the room as well. Overall, the cleanliness was somewhat lacking. It wasn't terrible but we almost always stay at Disney property's and this time the cleanliness wasn't what we are used to for Disney. Having said that, we choose this resort because the have "suites" which is nice if you need extra space and 2 bathrooms which we did need cause our son took a friend this time. The suites sleep 6, I slept on the Murphy bed and it was actually pretty comfy. Then there is a bedroom with a queen bed and also a pull out sofa. Has a small kitchenette. Overall it met our needs but I would have liked for the upkeep to be better maintained. Food in the food court was all good for us and we also ate several meals off property. If you have small kiddos and your family really enjoys one of the movies that the place is themed with then by all means stay here. I'm sure you will have a blast but as for my family we will probably go back to Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter, it's our absolute favorite. Sure wish they had "suite" rooms that sleep 6 with 2 bathrooms. But if we need extra space then we will be back here, next time probably try a Lion KIng room.

When we checked in we were asked if we wanted to opt out of housekeeping ... we agreed to that as we don't need it and its sometime inconvenient when housekeeping is wanting to get in right when the family is in a hurry to get ready to leave. And sometimes just for security its easier just not to worry about securing everything knowing someone is going to be in your room. Multiple times housekeeping has come in regardless ... knocking on the door any time of the day regardless of "ROOM OCCUPIED" sign on the doorknob. And persistent!! Despite us saying four times we didn't need anything they persisted stating that it is a policy to do a visual room inspection. Three attempts it took to get them to come back later versus wanting to come while someone is sleeping, someone in the shower, etc. Lastly, and it may seem small, but to sell an "endless souvenir cup" and then have the entire week be out of certain drinks??? How is that even possible??? You can't fix that in a day or two? [no need for a courtesy response from the professional responders .. as looking at the other negative reviews its about the same response for everyone ... this was for other travelers]
