We had dinner at the Wine Kitchen a Generations, Riviera Maya by Karisma. The food was out of this world and the service matched! Baldo and Migel made wonderful suggestions, greeted and engaged with our dinning experience. I highly recommend eating at this restaurant and hope you get to have these two gentlemen as your wait staff.

    Awesome dinner!!!

Let me start by saying I travel a lot and really do not have unreasonable expectations. I like good food and oceanfront views and consistent service. This resort delivers on the view, all rooms are oceanfront but there is opportunity for lots of improvement in other areas as detailed below. First, I want to mention a few people that gave us exceptional service: Marisol was extremely friendly and attentive at the pool and beach, Julian drove us on the cart one evening and sang to us the entire time, Jorge at the open air bar was friendly and made awesome cocktails, Winiford provided excellent room service and Marilu at the Rincon Mexico restaurant. This resort is connected to the El Dorado Casitas and El Dorado Royal which stretches about a mile down the beach. Walking or golf carts are available. Now for things that can be improved upon: Food - is mediocre at best. This place is marketed as "gourmet". The presentation is "gourmet" but the taste is average at best. We did enjoy the Wine Kitchen and Rincon Mexico. Housekeeping - we arrived to ants in our room. We called and someone was sent right away but the point is, the room should have been inspected prior to our arrival. Also, we never knew who our housekeeper was. Names never matched the name on the tent card in our room, so we didn't know who to tip ! In addition, something was always forgotten (ie. wash clothes, coffee stirs). We met Margarita once and she was very friendly and did a great job the one day she cleaned our room. She seemed to be very experienced. Covid sanitation - lots of room for improvement ! I did not notice anyone cleaning chairs at the pool/beach and we even had someone try to put a used cover on our Bali bed !! This is unacceptable ! Our last night in the Sling bar, ants were crawling on the bar and someone's cherry stems had not been removed. Clearly the bar had not been wiped down in quite a while. Masks for tourist in restaurants was not being enforced. Other issues - a guy who we did not know and had not provided any type of service to us, asked us to mention his name in the review because they get bonus/promotions when names are mentioned. This demonstrates a serious lack of training. Also, butlers are assigned, but other than making dinner reservations for you, I"m not really sure what they do. Ours failed to provide other pertinent information, like shopping trips were available from Lomas travel, that we found out on day 6 of a 7 day vacation. House wine is included in the all-inclusive, however they do not provide this in the room (like the abundance of beer in the fridge). We basically had to bribe a bartender in order to take bottles of wine to our room. Prior to arrival they asked us if we were celebrating anything, I told them yes, we were celebrating retirement. There was no mention of this when we arrived. So why bother asking ? More snack options are needed by the pool. You must go to a sit-down restaurant to get food (this may be due to Covid, not sure). In summary - the design of this resort was great (you can also visit El Dorado Casitas and El Dorado Royal) and majority of staff were very friendly and helpful. All employees wore masks. It seems there are opportunities for more training on the finer details as well as food improvement. They get to 3rd base, but never score the run. I doubt we would ever return to this resort.
