Tried to send a review privately via the email addresses on their website and to their PR folks, but alas no response back. Review is therefore an edited review posted publicly below: Back in March I had the opportunity to stay at the Marker for three nights as part of a fantastic trip to the San Francisco area. I was excited about staying at a Boutique Hotel, especially one with a French flair in a convenient part of town. It was, for San Francisco, fairly inexpensive and based on several online ratings, I had assumed it was going to be on par with other fine hotels such as the Omni (which was available at the same price point). I'd say the stay was "fine," but not to the extent or quality I was expecting. The condition of the hotel is unfortunately quite worn and in need of renovation. A commentary of the hotel is listed below. Guest Room: - Headboard: there was some damage and wear visible on the headboard. Of notice there were screws that were meant to adhere to the back wall that no longer were attached. - Blinds: Clear damage to the wood blinds including large chips of wood missing. - Window: Behind the blinds the window jamb has large amounts of wide tape that appears to be either covering damage or attempting to cover a leak along the window frame. - Floor: Carpet along perimeter is starting to come up in a few locations - Outlets: The cable receptacle outlet is broken with about a quarter of the faceplate missing. - Molding: Crown molding located along perimeter of bedroom is misaligned between two sections. Minor imperfection, but not up to the standards behind "The Marker" moniker. Bathroom: - Leak was discovered underneath the sink. It was a slow leak, but seems plastic components were loose immediately underneath the drain elbow. - Misaligned wall paper underneath the vanity of the bathroom. Clear disruption in the wall paper pattern. - Wall paper is starting to peel at the edges. Clear wear and tear. - Grout is missing from shower tiles. Unit Door: - Damage including chipped wood on inset paneling. Seems typical looking down the hallway. Other Items: There were a few other items in terms of soft product that could be improved as well. This included: - Limited hours/ choices at the coffee/tea time. Considering that this is part of the Amenity Fee, it should feel more like an Amenity. For example, multiple coffee types or slightly more sophisticated dishware would have seemed proper. There were times when staff started to remove items before 10:00 am. - Slippers being available only by request seems "cheap" and does not feel luxurious. - Wifi provided did not appear secure. For a hotel that caters both to business and leisure clientele this seems to be an unfortunate misstep. - Main desk paneling shows wear and tear as well as the mold trim above the entry reception area. - The combination of the mini bar basket, the soaps, and the robe with signs with everything for sale again feels cheap. Feel like having the mini bar underneath might be a good way to keep things for sale as desecrate. As for the Amenity Fee, I personally do not have a problem with this fee being attached. I think a more robust coffee/ tea bar, a free bottle of water in the room, a coffee / tea maker in the room, a newspaper "stand" next to the coffee and tea bar downstairs all can make a major improvement and help reduce the complaints regarding the Amenity Fee you have received from previous Patrons. I am sure the happy hour is fantastic, but, as tourists exploring the city we were not able to attend. I hope in the future this Hotel can get the facelift it deserves. The bones and vision is there, the execution and maintenance though are areas that need love and care.

Staff don’t explain that if you leave your car after checkout you will get charged an extortionate amount by the third party valet company. Parking is $79 per night anyway. When the hote tried to charge us an additional $70 for leaving the car for another few hours, we complained that we had not been informed upon checkout despite discussing the car. The response from the front of house supervisor was nothing short of astonishing - very aggressive and patronising.

Two night stay in large, comfortable room. Pretty quiet for being in the city center. Staff were friendly and helpful. A copy of The Maltese Falcon was in the bedstand; down in the lobby were room placards like "Falcon" and Bogart and Astor. I was told he lived nearby and would come to the bar/lobby to work sometimes and that the hotel in The Maltese Falcon was inspired by his visits to the Marker (in the 30s operating under a different name). Free Wifi but no breakfast and no cable channels like HBO. No biggie that--there are plenty of restaurants within a stone's throw and plenty to see and do without watching the idiot box.

In town for Google Next 2019. Booked The Marker hotel. Frankly, I hadn't heard of this hotel before but it's very nice. Rooms are clean, staff is friendly....and it's close to everything I needed. I don't live in California so I imagine the price is considered "good" by California standards? It was nothing exorbitant...but, of course, higher than the midwest where I'm from....

I got a room in this hotel for nearly $850 for one night. This hotel was definitely not worth it. It feigns luxury but I’ve stayed in holiday inn expresses that we’re nicer. My first room had a stench of sewage when I went in so I switched. The second room melles better, but to be honest, the accommodations are basic. For the price, it should definitely feel like luxury, but there is a hint of grimy about the place that is really just unacceptable for its rating. While the staff was nice, I would not recommend because you can get far better for your money.
