Check-in information and airport times

Find out what you need to know before you check in, when to arrive at the airport, and key check-in, baggage drop-off, and boarding times.

  1. When check-in opens

Check-in opens 24 hours before departure for most flights. We recommend checking in as early as possible to give yourself enough time at the airport.

  2. What you need to check in

All guests checking in require the following information:

    • Reservation code (6 characters) or ticket number (13 digits)
    • Your full name and date of birth as written on your government-issued ID
    • For all travel to the USA: Passport or NEXUS information, plus hotel name, destination address, cruise or transit airline
    • For all travel outside of Canada: Passport information, and if applicable, Visa or PR card

How to check in

Online

You can check in online using either your six-letter reservation code or ticket number along with your last name, or by signing in to your WestJet Rewards account.

  1. WestJet app

The WestJet app is the easiest way to check in and manage your trip.

    • Check in and verify travel documents
    • Add checked baggage
    • Upgrade or change seats
    • Access your boarding pass anytime
    Download the WestJet app
  2. Email

You may also receive an email when check-in opens with a direct link to check in. This link takes you to the same online check-in experience.

  1. When online check-in may not be available

Online check-in may not be available for some bookings. This can happen, for example, if:

    • Your flight is operated by a partner airline
    • Additional verification or documentation is required
    • Your booking includes special service requests or recent changes.

If online check-in is not available, wait until airport check-in opens within three hours of departure. Our airport agents can help complete check-in when you arrive.

Checking in at the airport

Airport check-in counters

  • Open 3 hours before departure for most flights
