Lovely beach, sea view decent room, old hotel.

schnoozeuk (London, United Kingdom) on Apr 17, 2024

This is an old hotel directly on a beautiful uncrowded white sand beach. I think some perspective is needed. Yes, the reception on arrival was about as welcoming as a government parking fine office, yes the bathroom was tired, yes there really could be more sun loungers around the pool and yes the food is ok but not close to the standard and variety you might get elsewhere. There is also nothing walkable to do immediately around the hotel. And there is a mango tree growing out of one side of the tennis court. It must have been a much higher end place when it was new…. But…. Many of the rooms have a lovely sea view, the room was decent sized with a good aircon and nice balcony, well equipped (fridge, bottled water, tea coffee iron) and clean. The pool is not huge but perfectly nice and deep in half of it for swimming. But the point here is being on such a nice beach - and that the two hotels further down on the same beach cost easily three times as much but where you will be amongst hundreds of people crammed in a row with a high chance of a room overlooking a car park or a random patch of trees. This is much quieter and smaller with no issue in getting a great spot with sun loungers and sun umbrella (thank you, Stephen!) where the kids can play all day jumping in and out of the waves. If it gets a bit rough walk up the beach to Sandals, where the reef means a much calmer sea and a life guard. There is also a pleasant quieter garden to one side by the turtle enclosure if the music around the pool is a bit loud for you. I get the impression that many people staying here are straight off a cruise and inevitably will find the hotel a bit of downer. Desiree was wonderful but it’s true a few of the other staff clearly don’t like people, (or maybe Brits) or their job much, which would benefit from some training or on the ground leadership. But you need to look at this for what it is - a fanatic location if you want a nice room directly on a beautiful stretch of white sand which will cost you a fraction of the other hotels on the same beach. I wouldn’t use the cooked red wine to unblock drains so drink the beer, white or rose and the really rather good banana and strawberry daiquiris . Be nice to the staff and they will be nice back. And with regard to some of the other reviews - they fixed the problem with the birds flying all over the dining area whilst we there by fitting a door to the place.

Great value for money.

Stayed at the Barbados Beech Club from 28 Feb - 3 Apr 2024. This was our 12th consecutive annual visit (except for a 2 year Covid break). The hotel is a 3* Bajan family owned hotel situated right on the beach on the iconic Maxwell Coast road. The location is outstanding with the staff friendly and welcoming. The food, though not gourmet, is varied, good and plentiful with access to a silver service (Reef Restaurant) two nights a week. The building, although now ageing, is always clean and tidy as was our room with close beach and sea views. Having visited Barbados now for 25+ years almost continuously we can say, on an objective assessment, it would be difficult to find better value for money anywhere on the island.

Good value hotel on the beach in Barbados

BarnsleyOzzies (Barnsley) on Apr 14, 2024

Sorry for the long review but there is a lot to say to try to counteract the numerous poor reviews. Not discrediting peoples experiences but we went anyway with low expectations as only 3 star. Had a deluxe room with 2 double beds and ocean view. Very good size room, lap top safe and very comfy beds and pillows. A real bonus was sufficient coat hangers, not to be sneezed at in my experience. In room refrigerator. A couple of small water bottles every day but as a "green" person just used the water dispenser to fill my water bottle (near the shop). Well done hotel for that, much appreciated. Food was as expected for a 3 star in the buffet however, the a la carte restaurant had very good food and service, has to be booked so do that as soon as you arrive. Beach towels are available for a rather large deposit compared to other hotels, disappointed with the quality as they were similar to a tea towel in texture. Drinks were adequate eg only 10 cocktails all based on rum or vodka, I have a photo of the menu, the management claimed 16 but no evidence at the bar for that? Service at the bar was really good despite being short staffed sometimes. That said the white and rose were very drinkable, not so much the red. At breakfast, really nice orange juice and a good selection of teas. Good choices for breakfast food. Only problem was size of cups outside meal times where tiny paper cups were available. No problems finding a lounger but cushions were in short supply, a customer complained and suddenly more were supplied - come on management its not hard to please your customers - you could remove the cushions overnight like other hotels do. You can step out right onto the beach which is lovely but as others have said sea very rough - global warming? No seaweed despite the rough seas?? Managed to snorkel at Pebbles beach, bus ride away and Dover beach a 20 minute walk away. Turtles everywhere! Entertainment most nights, some great and some so so. Desiree is amazing, did wood burning activity with her that resulted in a souvenir. Most staff great but some really quite openly miserable that made me wonder about the manager?? Give this hotel a chance.

Wonderful hotel, we keep coming back

rebecca l (Wantage, United Kingdom) on Apr 13, 2024

Absolutely wonderful. My family and I have stayed at the Barbados Beach Club 3 times now and loved it every time. We were made to feel so welcome on arrival and everyone working there was kind and helpful. The food is a delicious buffet with plenty to suit all and an option to sit in the dining room or dine outside by pool, both of which we enjoyed. Our room was great and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. This hotel is excellent value for money and the staff work extremely hard to make you feel at home and welcome. The beach is perfectly located right at the front of the grounds and is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, it’s lovely. We have always enjoyed the entertainment provided; particularly some excellent singers and musicians. In all, I can’t fault the place and we will be back for sure. I highly recommend for a family friendly all inclusive hotel in the Caribbean that is good value for money.
