Great location, go with an open mind

Elisa R (Tewkesbury, United Kingdom) on Apr 01, 2024

Great location, fantastic beach! We did a lot of research before we came as we wanted to explore as much as possible. The hotel itself is in a great position with a 1km walk to Oistins so you can enjoy the delights of the fish fry. Or jump on the reggae , reggae bus for 3.50 Barbadian dollars. Within the 1km is a great restaurant called the Surfers Cafe that had a hidden jewel at the back of wonderful view and natural aircon from the sea. There is also a Masseys supermarket great for getting your drinks , snacks and food for your stay. We stayed in a room with a sea view that was a bit tired , the toilet was noisy , the aircon didn’t work well and the curtains kept no sunlight out at all . When we booked this hotel we knew it wasn’t 4star . If you are fussy this isn’t for you but the view, the beach and people make up for the tired looking rooms (that you only sleep in) . We will definitely be back ??

Tired hotel needs better service.

craigm496 (Atlanta, United States) on Mar 29, 2024

This small and older hotel has a nice location, but is a mess everywhere else. The rooms are tired, the tiles cracked, and the staff at the restaurant is abysmal. It took an HOUR to get a burger. The lack of customer service should mark this hotel off any list ever. Sad to say since they could use the business. There are similar reviews here about the space. I guess finding good staff is difficult, but when tourism is your main export, service needs to be top notch. Pay the extra for a better space and better service. You’ve been warned.

Unwelcoming and indifferent

Odyssey774594 on Mar 29, 2024

The hotel itself isn’t bad. The rooms are large and clean with good aircon. Located right on the beach with two pools but a hot not, short walk to Oistins. The restaurant/bar staff are indifferent, and make it quite clear you are an inconvenience! We’ve been to several other restaurants and bars and the service is welcoming and friendly. The restaurant staff in the hotel clearly don’t want to work in hospitality and are the main reason for my two star review. Shall not be returning!

Small friendly hotel in a little spot of paradise

Claire O (Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom) on Mar 19, 2024

I had mixed feelings about this hotel after reading some negative reviews on here. I was pleasantly shocked especially with the friendliness of all staff, from pool cleaners, maids to bar staff. Everyone was so friendly and always greeted us with a big friendly smile. The location of this hotel is perfect. Only a 15 minute walk to oistins and the beautiful bacardi beach which is in a little inlet/cove so the waters are very calm and you can go snorkeling, we even spotted sea turtles. There is a large supermarket located at oistins. The hotel itself is on a beach but the water can get very choppy so I would be careful swimming in the sea. The hotel snackbar/cafe is situated overlooking the sea you will not get a better view. The price of the food at the snack bar was average and whilst there I had the tuna salad, a spicy pizza, fish bites all of which were very tasty. Our room was dated but authentic, a small kitchen area and fridge so we could make snacks etc. The room was always kept very clean, beds were made daily and towles always changed. The beds were quite comfortable and the mirrored wardrobes were great for checking out your outfit before going out on an evening. My only negative was the lack of plug sockets and the location of them for charging phones etc. We had a spacious balcony over looking the swim up pool and a slight sea view, our balcony got the sun all day round. There is a free safe in the room for use. There is 2 little shops opposite the hotel selling basic food, snacks, alcohol, cigarettes etc. There's is also a chinese restaurant which we went to twice during our holiday. There a couple of pubs opposite the hotel our favorite being the hangout, the staff were so friendly and it was great to hangout with the locals. The hotel is about 10 minutes in a reggae bus to st lawrence gap. St lawrence gap for me was overrated we didn't find one pub/ restaurant which sold cocktails made with fresh fruit they were all made with syrup. The reggae buses are an experience and a great, cheap way to get around..only £3.50 bbd. Overall a fantastic small hotel in a beautiful location and very good value for money. I can understand why this hotel gets fully booked very quickly and customers return year after year

The curates egg.

H5169DHsteveh (Downham Market, United Kingdom) on Mar 17, 2024

We stayed at the Butterfly Beach for two weeks in March and like the curates egg parts of it are wonderful. We booked a sea view apartment and arriving very tired were shown a ground floor room where not a lot of sea was visible and sunbathers sat just outside our balcony. I asked if it would be possible to relocate to a higher location, not holding out a lot of hope as this is peak season. The wonderful manageress had us on the 4th floor in two days, outstanding. The hotel is about due for a refurbishment, doors stick, the kettle wouldn't cut off and the odd lick of paint would be good. Nothing drastically wrong and all eminently liveable with. The worst aspect was however the restaurant. To eat at the Butterfly you have 3 choices.1/ take a bus to Oistins or St Laurence Gap. 2/ Walk across the road to either the Fern { live music} or the New Garden Chinese, and 3/ Eat at the Reef Bar in the Hotel. We ate there twice and wished we hadn't. We were treated as a nuisance, the food was mediocre and the service was appalling. The waves on the beach tend to be a bit rough but surprisingly if you get the bus into Oistins, Miami beach is sheltered and shallow. The weather is perfect !
