Melia Sol Cayo Santa Maria would not accept our Cancelon voucher, so we had to pay in full again on arrival at the hotel. They said they'd never heard of Cancelon and didn't do business with them. So we are currently out of pocket having paid double for the stay.

I’ve been to the resort alone in 2018 and 2019 finally convinced my wife and anther couple to come. They were afraid after reading some of the reviews but I told them my thoughts. That’s why I’m coming back We will be returning March 18th 2020. I loved the beaches staff were amazing friendly and the gardens were so beautiful. The pizza place was outstanding. The pool bar at lunch time if you’re craving a good burger that’s the place you want to go. Looking forward to seeing all the amazing Staff again Sincerely Patrice Parent

Before I go any further let me just say I love Cuba and the people that work their fingers to the bone to ensure that we, the customer have a lifetime of memories. Having said that, our holiday through Sunwing Holidays was off to a rocky start when we were booked in to what could better be compared to as a utility room. No A/C. Dirty sheets (blood and fecal matter on the sheets) That should have been enough of a warning of what was yet to come. They claimed there were no available rooms but the resort was empty. We learned the next morning that they were having difficulties renovating and getting materials to patch up the damage caused in the aftermath when hurricane Irma ripped through the resort. This should have been reason enough to close the resort down to give it a proper restoration. We never knew from one day to the next what building was hosting dinner on any given day. Pretty sad when you hafta go to the lobby bar to find out where you will be dining on any give night. The beach was all we wanted on this trip and there was plenty of signage pointing us to the most beautiful nude beaches we could have hoped for.For those of you that were first time nudists it was the easiest beach to find and far from crowded. From the pizza bar you simply follow the pedway down to the beach and make a qwik left when you get to the sand. If you haven’t tried nudism in the past make a concerted effort to try it. You will meet the nicest people on them. Throw every thing you think you know about nudism out the door. There is no room for egos or shyness on the beach, just a group of lovers of the human body. No room for judgment. The beaches, like the resort, we’re empty for the most part and although nothing to brag about, the food was edible without lineups. If you travel to Cuba for the food you will likely be disappointed. If you are looking for nouveau cuisine you won’t find it here but you will find lots of genuinely friendly employees that make any problems an adventure instead of a disaster.i have to return to Cayo Sol,if for no other reason but to see if they got the restorations done and for the nude beach.

This trip was absolutely amazing. The people that work there made the experience great. The food was great, yuinell is a wonderful chef. The entertainment was great, so much fun nightly. Also daily dance lessons right on the beach with Giraldo. Hector, Lisbetty put on an awesome show, they kept it interactive and high energy. Killer beach and Lisdanny at the 24 hr bar was real sweet. Everyone was so personable it instantly felt like home.

The Sol Cayo Santa Maria is one of those wonderful older rustic resorts that grows on you and stays on you! At the moment they are in the process of refurbishing the entire resort, which will hopefully make this the gem it once was! My room was open and airy...everything worked the way it was supposed to. The gardens are gorgeous, and the staff work on them every day to keep them this way. Wonderful meandering pool with several walkway bridges to take you where you want to go. Great pool bar with snacks that include fantastic fish and chips, awesome burgers and fries, and sandwiches made to order. The pizzeria near the naturist beach is dimply awesome! Several different pizzas available, in addition to the variety of amazing pastas and sauces!!! While I'm on the subject of food...yes because of the renovations, there are fewer guests, (around 100) which means less staff, which means less food variety. In Cuba you eat what is available to them. In the two week period we were there, we had one meal that was not the best, but I improvised and had bread and cheese and cold cuts, and soup. I was full, and walked away happy. Always amazing ice cream! We met people on the beach, staying at the "bigger better newer" resorts, who told us the food was disgusting where they were staying! The staff: You won't find a better group of people to wait on you hand and foot, treating you like kings and queens! They are one of the reasons people keep coming back to The Sol. Not one person I talked to was disappointed with their return experience, despite the fact that the food selection was not as plentiful as previous trips. To sum this up: If you want a wonderful quieter resort, and are not concerned about whether or not everything is brand new and exactly like hotels at home, then you will enjoy this place! If you want a party palace with 1000 noisy people , there are several other options on the Island. Thank you Sol Cayo Santa Maria for another wonderful vacation!
