The Newer Tower is Great, NOT a Resort

My room in the new tower was HUGE with a balcony to match. The room was updated with a comfortable bed. The hotel has no private beach access. The beach is just across the street and easy to access the beach and other Waikiki area activities. My biggest complaint is that they charge a resort fee and this is not a resort. It is a hotel with a pool. If you want a resort, try the Royal Hawaiian or the Sheraton Waikiki.

When renting beach umbrella and chairs they say first come first serve but not true. They told us at 9:30 the first two rows had already been taken and checked in but not true, i observed three sets of chairs in the second row where people did not check in until after 10. So what’s with that?

    Good, Not Outstanding

The hotel is located in a busy area along Waikiki Beach, and near an outstanding shopping and dining area. It was nice to walk to dinner along the beach each evening, people watch, and do a little shopping. But it is crowded. The hotel is fine, with a friendly staff, good views, and spacious rooms. There is on-premise shopping, car rental, and good restaurant options. The spa staff is friendly and competent. Ultimately, it’s the little things that hold it back. We had a pretty renovated room, but the beds are small (double? Barely larger than a twin, really) and uncomfortable for two people. The drain in the tub wouldn’t seal so taking a hot bath after a difficult hike was tough. There was a nice breakfast buffet, but it is expensive. And the parking garage is tight and often full. Overall a good choice, depending on what’s important to a guest.

I saw Marriott and it is a beautiful hotel with an excellent location, but shoppers beware. Iwanted to warn anyone staying near the hotel NOT to buy anything from Fortoire who sells skincare/Jupiter red light therapy. It is a shop with same address as Marriott but a storefront, perhaps leased from the Marriott. The Jupiter does not work and they tell you all sales are final after signing card, it's printed on bottom of receipt. This is not legal without conspicuous signage saying, All sales are final." Or similar, which there wasn't, but even if there was, when a product doesn't work as explained or described, they must take it back if you paid with credit card. Don't get scammed with these people, make sure Visa backs you up. This verbage is in Visa's policy. If you've been duped, contact Chamber of Commerce. Or contact me on Facebook. Tara Mayole, Phoenix

My husband booked our room thru his app since he is a platinum elite or whatever member. When we went to check in they were gonna put us in a regular room when he clearly had booked an ocean view. The gentleman at front desert was awesome at making calls and clicking clacking on his computer to make sure we got what we' booked. ( wish i could remember his name. But he was shop steward) It took us awhile to get checked in, but our room was great. Premium ocean view. Very convenient to elevator. However, upon check out we were shocked to find that hotel guests are charged $50 for using valet parking. Guess we' should've checked first. Also they charge ge tax on a resort fee tax!! So just be aware that the price of your room will be charged about half more in fees and taxes! Go to a hotel that offer discount or free parking for hotel guests. Doesn't matter if your "premium elite" member you get nothing for it at this Marriott.
