Everyone got sick

Vipashi T on Apr 07, 2024

This was our 4th time visiting this resort. We love the proximity to the beach, pools and restaurants . (Compared to Hilton next door which is huge) We are Marriott Vacation Club members but couldn’t get the room so booked the hotel side. Requested bigger room because of older kids. We got the Ohana room which was specious. After two nights, slowly we started feeling sick. We noticed that if we were outdoors we were fine but indoors was horrible. My son who likes AC, shut it off claiming it was making us sick. The last two days were miserable. We are back home but still very sick. Don’t know if there was black mold or some allergens. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. Never mentioned to the management as we were too sick to deal with it. Flight back was just as miserable. They need to deep clean the hotel.

Great for families with young kids

O9979RPmelissah (Portland, Oregon) on Mar 27, 2024

We had a great stay here. My kids are 16 and 11 but this would have been a great place to stay when the kids were young. Lots of pool options for little kids and the beach is not far at all (I was a little worried it would be a trek to get there but it was a 5 min walk from our room). Beach is nice. Again - would be great with littles bc the waves were small. Bring swim shoes - lots of rocks at the beach. Pool side food and drinks service was great. Lots of families staying here. Breakfast buffet was great. A bit expensive if you don’t have elite status but so many other options. Evelyn was the most amazing server at breakfast. We had her all 4 days and she remembered us and our regular drink orders and was so friendly. 5 stars for Evelyn alone! Great location bc lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance to the hotel (king and queens shopping centers). Queens shopping center has a great grocery store (kings grocery is fancy so go to queens for regular needs). We drove up to Hapuna beach a couple times for some bigger waves. Rent boogie boards if the waves are good up there at the Hulakai Surf and Paddle. Walk to Lava Lava for dinner was super easy and nice to be able to walk home - great Mai tai’s! Beach is nice but nothing spectacular but the location with so many shops and restaurants made everything super easy. Great hotel for families with young kids.

A great place to stay near Kona

ChadPorter (Olathe, Kansas) on Mar 27, 2024

The Waikoloa Marriott resort is exactly what you would expect from a Marriott property. It’s right on the beach, has great pools and other activities for the family. It’s within walking distance of many shops, grocery stores and restaurants.

You will be going home with cockroaches

Glen K on Mar 20, 2024

Avoid the Marriott Waikoloa at all costs. Pros - staff are friendly and professional. Beautiful beach access. Cons - room descriptions on Marriott.com are lies. We booked the standard 1 king room which had a description AND photos showing a "separate living and sleeping areas". What we got was a single tiny dingy room, no couch, no chairs just two beds and a $20 coffee maker. - cockroaches in the rooms, You will probably be going home with cockroach eggs, so get ready to call the exterminator when you get home! - staff looks underpaid, overworked and overall miserable though they try to put the best possible face on it. - you are charged $30 per day for "self-parking" but the only place to park is a VALET parking lot, with tiny spaces stacked two rows deep. So everyone has to park crooked and jam each other so you can't open your car doors.

A+ resort

Amber B (Wisconsin) on Mar 17, 2024

Beautiful resort right on the ocean. Big rooms with a nice gym and amenities. Beach and pool area is gorgeous with plenty to do for a week vacation. They also have a variety of shops and restaurants nearby. It’s also away from the main bustle of Kona.
