Our group of 10 arrived on March 12 in celebration of two birthdays. Our group ranged from early 30s to mid 50s, and included couples as well as sisters who shared rooms. My husband and I were returning for our 4th visit, and everyone else was visiting for the first time. Jamaica Requirements - Two weeks before our arrival, Jamaica changed the requirements which required testing within 3 days of arrival instead of 9 days. Thankfully in Maryland, access to same day PCR and rapid Antigen tests is readily available so we didn’t have any trouble with that. Airport Arrival – The lounge at the airport can sometimes seem unorganized. Someone checks you in on the iPad, and then someone else is tagging your luggage, and a third person just seems to be in the way. They kept trying to take 2 of my sisters away before the rest of us were checked in. Once we got that straight, our group went over to the Club Mobay lounge for drinks and snacks. We stayed there about 20 minutes and our shuttle driver patiently waited for us. The porters were a little more aggressive than we have ever experienced. We always tip but the reminder 3 times before our luggage was on the bus was a bit annoying. Not Sandals employees so just sharing for awareness. Sandals Arrival – There was a bit of traffic on our way to the resort. Our driver didn’t offer to stop at the usual mid-way point and we wish he had after sitting in traffic. Food and a bathroom break would have been greatly appreciated. Finally, we arrived! I love that once you point to your bags they disappear, only to magically be waiting in your room when you arrived. We were escorted to the Club lounge. It was well after 4pm when we arrived but our rooms were not ready which was surprising. Our butler and the concierge escorted us over to lunch while we waited for our rooms. Finally, we were escorted to our building by both of our butlers – Ray and Melford. Ray was leaving for the day but stuck around to get us settled which was a nice touch. Food - The food was amazing. We at Soy (3 times), Kimonos, Valentinos (get the lamb chops), Kelly’s Dockside (everything was good – we ordered the entire menu between 6 of us), La Gourmand (great for dinner and breakfast) and Sky Vista was fantastic. The actual Jerk Shack was closed for repairs while we were there but you could get jerk chicken from several of the other lunchtime spots. Tapas on the Riviera is great for lunch – we really enjoyed the fish tacos, sliders and buffalo chicken legs. Honestly, we ordered a lot from that menu! Lol On the night we arrived, our travel agent hosted a private reception for us on the pier that included heavy appetizers (crab cakes, conch, lamb meatballs, and so much else that I don’t remember) plus an open bar. It was great way to kick off vacation. Room service for breakfast was great when we preordered the night before with our butlers. Service was over an hour – including one request for fruit, pastries and coffee only. Rooms – We have stayed in the newly refurbished rooms at Royal Barbados, Montego Bay, and South Coast so yes these are older rooms. Still, they are clean and well appointed. We love having a separate sitting room and is one of the reasons we always book a butler level room. We were upstairs in room 7522 (bldg. 68) and could see the ocean in the distance. It was also great to have a pool where we could hang out with our friends in the evening. Butlers – Ray was great. We spent more time with Melford just because of their schedules. Both went above and beyond to meet our needs. You could tell they read our butler preference sheets. One of group members mentioned that she liked fresh coconut with her rum. And yep, Melford would find us at the beach or pool every day with fresh coconuts. Can’t forget our cabana butler Miguel. We rented 3 cabanas on two different days and Miguel took great care of us. Our drinks stayed full, he ensured we were well fed and even coordinated with Melford on a few surprises for us. Activities – Yes, it was different than our previous visits. Still, the playmakers worked hard to get guests engaged with dancing, pool volleyball, trivia and other games at the pools and beach. Anice was new to Ochi but she has the energy that’s going to take her far! Rabbit Hole was closed a few nights and not very busy other nights. We did miss the singer because of our dinner reservations but others said she was good. The Caribbean night show at the pavilion was actually really good. We heard the music for the Chocolate Party/White Night while having dinner at La Gourmand. The singing was great but it was a little too close for comfort for us. It was the only event happening and it was St Patrick’s Day so everyone seemed to be there, and one guy got a little too happy as he took off his shirt and did laps around the pool. No one was harmed and it was a little funny to watch from a distance. Hubby and some of the guys, including a few we met in the FB groups, went golfing three days. The course is okay and they said caddies were excellent as always. Go to the spa – you will thank me. All of the ladies are excellent but we’ve had JNicole and Donnette on two different trips, and Sashanna was one of our therapists at Montego Bay. Kudos – We used the LOOP to give shoutouts to everyone while we were there. But I will still recognize butlers Ray, Melford and Miguel; Playmakers Anice and Renae; All the singers/playmakers; spa attendants JNicole, Donnette and Sashanna; Hop/Shuttle drivers Orgbett and Samuel; and Sandra and Chevette in Sales. I really appreciated Sandra checking in on our group each day, and Chevette stopping by the lounge to greet us on arrival was a great touch. The waitress at the Ochi Beach Bar and the Bartender really were fantastic too but I can’t find their name in my notes right now. Overall – We had a great vacation and are all booked for Sandals Regency La Toc for August. If you are worried, don’t be. If you want a beachfront room, book on the Riviera side. If you are okay with the private pool or garden views, take advantage of the deals usually offered for the HV/V1 butler suites. Enjoy the food. Make time to chat with the staff. Be sure to visit Soy for the best sushi around, and the Rabbit Hole bartenders make the best drinks. Eat jerk chicken. Have some Appleton Estate 12 -year rum with a splash of ginger ale. Just go and have a great time.

If you are worried about coming or having second thoughts, DON’T!!! The staff is amazing and so many of them went above and beyond for us. This was our 4th time to Sandals Ochi and we we be back again this year. We had a great time! Despite everything going on in the world, the staff made it an amazing vacation. We constantly saw people cleaning and sanitizing. Our butlers Akeen and Nicola really went above and beyond making our trip special. Shoyan from Loyalty Services is a sweetheart and helped us book a wonderful trip for next year and also went above and beyond to make sure we received our Emerald pins (Even though we weren’t concerned about it) Bernadean that was serving around the main pool was great and always made sure we had everything we needed. Kirkpatrick at the Piano Bar is one hilarious guy! We had so much fun with him! Romeo, the lifeguard at the main pool always made sure we were doing ok and didn’t need anything. We got to personally meet Kevin Clarke and he is truly and outstanding guy, Ochi is very lucky to have him as a GM! Shakara at Red Lane spa was wonderful. Maxine and Delores with Guest Services Mgmt are two amazing women. It was truly a pleasure to meet them along with everyone else we came across. We cannot wait to come back in five months!!!! One Love!

This was my first and last time at a Sandals resort. I say that with previous all inclusive resort experience at 7 other resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico. This being the worst experience I’ve had and the most expensive one. At almost $5,000 for 6 days you’d expect quite the Lux experience. All you’re paying for is a rip off from the Sandals corporate brand. Our first day started TERRIBLY and probably soured our entire trip. A man named Andre was working the great house pool bar and actually made us to promise to tip him before he would serve us. We said we had no cash and he responded with “you’ll be here tomorrow right? You can tip then.” His own coworker actually approached us later and apologized on his behalf saying he is like that to all of the guests and to please not listen to him. I’m unsure how he is still employed there. We hoped this would be the last of the harassment in regards to tipping but it was just beginning. We were even delayed checking in because someone was trying to sell us on a spa package, I finally had to ask if we could please be taken to our room. Everywhere we went employees were shoving wine lists or spa packages in our faces reminding us they make commission on them. We couldn’t relax and enjoy the beach without an employee approaching or harassing us to buy something. At other resorts I’ve actually tipped at the end of my trip or upgraded to things because it was quality service and I knew any upgrades would be worth it, but here it was just being sold and scammed. The photographer was so aggressive at dinner he actually had my boyfriend ducking at the table during our “romantic” dinner so he could lean over him to capture the shot of another couple. During our spa day, we were tried to be sold into a longer massage as we are trying to relax for our treatment, twice. Even in the massage room on the table. Then pulled aside to be sold products after our massage treatment. The service was so terrible at both the restaurants and most of the bars, it made the experience terrible. There was one bartender manning the entire pool bar, impossible to ever get a drink. We’d order drinks only to be told they were out. Even out of things like bottles of water. Places were constantly out of bottles of water, I don’t understand how this happens. Also continuously running out of champagne bottles, I’m sure part of the plot to make you buy one off of the manager’s wine list that was shoved in your face everytime you sat down anywhere. Not to mention they were constantly out of beach towels in areas as well. This place was only operating at 30% capacity due to covid, I can’t even fathom what it looks like full. Any dinner experience we had was terrible. I actually dreaded eating on the resort as the food was so bad and we’d both be physically sick after meals. We were physically sick the entire trip from the food, being actually afraid to eat for what would happen after. Every meal took 2+ hours. This was not a constant food and drinks flowing 2 hours, this was a wait for two hours with no food and no refills on water or drinks. I had to stop staff just to get a refill or ask where the items were they’d forgotten to bring us. We would place an order and they would only bring out half of the items we asked for, this was a constant issue. The first night we tried to eat dinner at the Italian restaurant. First, the host informs us it is closed... as we are watching other people be sat. So a couple invites us to join them which at that point the hostess says my boyfriend needs to change into pants, dress code is understandable but don’t lie to us directly and tell us the place is closed. We had a server at the lunch restaurant actually say he’d take care of our order yet never put it in and then left since his shift was over. I don’t understand how they can call these 5 star restaurants or pride themselves on this. It was literally the worst food I’ve had at an all inclusive. Not to mention the experience of waiting 40 minutes on a reservation at a hibachi restaurant with no working AC. There are hours and stipulations for everything and it is NOT shown on the app. The app displays breakfast at 7am. We woke up early and planned around this to ensure we got there before our shuttle left. When we arrive they say no it’s 7:30 every morning. Please inform me why the app has not been updated then? We explain we are trying to get food before our flight, the manager says he will take care of us and make sure we’re fed. Nothing like this happens. All of their excursions leave so early yet breakfast doesn’t open early enough to eat prior and no other arrangements are made. The final few things I’ll say here include the cleaning service for your room taking forever. Never done when you come back from being out for the day. And when we did come back from the day, our water was shut off for 3 hours and we were physically unable to shower...one thing after another at this resort. Last but not least, we tried to enjoy one of their nice fire pits and couch seating, where we were attacked by fire ants or some sort of stinging ant. How can you have a main area for your guests unkept like this?? I’ve been to several tropical places and sure maybe you get this on a hike or a random spot but not in an area where you’re invited to sit and enjoy. I will never recommend this place to anyone and am shocked a Sandals can be operated like this one. I’ve never looked forward to a vacation being over like I had this one.
