The entertainment crew was excellent. Particularly Gilberto, Erik, Tarzan, and Gaby in the beach area. A lot of games throughout the day. Very hospitable. Everyone was very friendly. If you needed anything they were there to help.

I'll go into more detail below, but for those not wanting to read a lengthy review I'll say. Absolutely beautiful resort, extremely clean and well taken care of. There are no shortage of activities to participate in if you're looking for things to do. The beach was always clean and well manicured. The staff were extremely friendly. Keep your food expectations realistic, this is an all inclusive resort that has to cater to thousands of guests and so the food at most of the restaurants is good, but not great. Highly recommend El Rancho steakhouse, La Marina buffet, and Coco Bar on the beach. For those wanting more detail, here you go: *The Staff* A huge thank you to Diego at the front desk and Olivier our concierge. Diego did our check in and we explained when checking in that we only found out the day before that there was going to be construction at the Lindo. We asked about an upgrade and not only did he get us upgraded to the Maya promptly, but he and his supervisor gave us a great rate. He was very attentive to our requests and answered all of our questions and explained everything very well. Oliver honestly made our vacation. He checked in with us daily, always remembered who we were whenever we ran into him any where on the resort grounds and even went out of his way to acquire some vanilla extract for us that a friend had asked to bring back from Mexico. He was extremely helpful in helping us find things to do, making sure our accommodations met our expectations, and even sent us a bottle of sparkling wine and flowers when I told him we had just celebrated our one year anniversary. If anyone from Iberostar reads this, you have a definite asset in him. And he is one of the main reasons we will definitely return in the future. There is a lot to see and do both on and off the resort and I highly recommend you make use of your concierge, they can really help you nail down what to do and when. The staff at the shops, restaurants and bars always have a smile on their face, are extremely polite and always willing to chat if you want local information or just a friendly conversation. *The Resort* It's huge, and I mean absolutely massive. If you've never been and you're looking at pictures know up front that the resort is much bigger than you think it is. Walking from the beach to the lobby will easily take you 15 minutes and there are five full resorts on the complex (all Iberostar) so if you decide to explore, wear comfortable shoes. Every inch of the resort is clean, well manicured and looked after. And there is no shortage of wildlife to see. At the Lindo and Maya we saw peacocks and coatis regularly. At the Del Mar and Beach we saw swans, peacocks, flamingos, macaws, and coatis. You could walk around for a good hour or two and see plenty. If you are traveling between resorts on the property you can always goto the lobby and ask for someone to take you from one resort lobby to another via golf cart if you're just not in the mood for a walk, or pressed for time. They're quick and always happy to do so. The shopping center is a must see, it's much larger than it looks and there is a big variety of shops. We purchased some boots and sandals at Rogers Boots, they were happy to negotiate on the price and when we had an issue with the boots we purchased, they didn't give us a hard time at all about taking them to be repaired. When they couldn't repair them the next day they replaced them all together. So the customer service is great. So don't be afraid to shop. Just know that you're probably going to pay more at the shops than you will in Playa Del Carmen. So if you really want something and don't want to spend that much, go into PDC and buy it on 5th avenue. I highly recommend you try the taco place in the shopping center it was actually very good. *Rooms* We were in a Superior Suite in the Maya. The room is a great size with a sitting area, king size bed, and a huge bathroom. The first thing to know is that walk in showers are only available in the Maya, the Lindo has bathtub/shower combos so if this is an issue for you, you'll definitely want the Maya. The air conditioning in the room worked perfectly, I've read a lot of reviews from people about having issues with the air conditioning and there are two things to note about it. The air conditioning automatically shuts off if your front or balcony doors are open, this makes perfect sense as its a waste of energy to operate it if the doors open. Make sure your doors are closed and the AC will work fine. You also have ceiling fans which help keep the air well circulated. *The Food* This was honestly the only part of the trip I found to be disappointing, let me quantify that by saying it was my fault. I read a lot of reviews raving about how great the food is and so I went into it expecting it to be so. Food is subjective to the individual, and I failed to consider this. None of the food is 'bad', but the restaurants on the resort are not michelin star restaurants. Some you'll like, and some you won't. Having said that, these were our experiences: 1. La Tapatio Don't waste your time, the food there was by far the worst of the resort. It was all either very overcooked or had little to no flavour. We tried it twice while we were there. 2. La Marina The breakfast buffet here is definitely worth visiting. They have a little bit of everything and you'll easily find something you like. The lunch and dinner buffets are good, you won't be disappointed. 3. El Rancho The best a-la carte we ate at by far. The food was well seasoned and prepared. The ambient music and mariachi's walking around gave it a great vibe. If you're staying at the Maya, you definitely need to eat here. We did twice. 4. La Gaesha Don't waste your time, the show was really cool but an important caveat, you'll be seated at a table with random people, and if the people don't engage with the chef during the show the chef will just go into a food prep mode and not bother continuing with the show. We found that the chefs rely very heavily on soy sauce for flavour in everything and so the food was very salty. Also, don't expect good sushi, it was ok but definitely not something you'll eat again. 5. La Rodivo (the Brazilian BBQ) I've had Brazilian chorasco in Brazil, and this is definitely not that. Yes they roam around cutting meat off a spit onto your plate. But the service is so slow, and the portions so small that we literally had to wait 5 minutes between bites for food, and ultimately decided we were so hungry that we left and went to the sports bar at the Lindo lobby. 6. Snake Bar (Maya lobby bar) Very cool looking, and occasionally has live music in the evening. It's nice to see, we didn't actually drink 7. Coco Bar (snack bar and drink bar) The burgers here were GREAT. By far the best food we ate at the resort. They're grilled well, and available all day. You can find this place on the Maya beach. *The Drinks* It's a resort, they in it to make money, and so don't expect your drinks to be strong. I think I drank 9 or 10 mixed drinks specifically asking for Bacardi or Captain Morgan rum, and didn't even feel a buzz. I'm not a big drinker and so I tend to feel booze pretty quickly, this leads me to believe that they aren't watering down the drinks, but rather the booze itself. So don't be surprised if you aren't feeling it right away. Ask for doubles or straight shots. *The Beach* Everyone always worries about the seaweed. Nobody can predict this, everything we read said we should expect seaweed coming out of our ears but the entire time we were there we saw nothing, until the last day when we saw quite a bit in the water. The beach however was cleaned regularly so we didn't see anything on the beach.

first let me say that the resort itself is gorgeous, the architecture, the flowers, the pools and the beach are all amazing. When we first arrived check in was a little frustrating. It took the girl a very long time to get our information (about half an hour) only to tell us our rooms weren’t ready. We were starving at that point so she directed us to the buffet which took us about 20 minutes to find and when we got there it was closing in 20 minutes... the food... the food was probably the worst I have ever had on any vacation I have been on. The selections weren’t great, I have a very picky 4 year old and there was no pasta no chicken nuggets and nothing really that he would eat. The burgers seemed like they were frozen and everything was cold. That was our experience at every buffet we went to. Breakfast was the worst, took 20 minutes to get an egg cooked for you or an omelet made. The Italian restaurant was retry decent and was our number one choice but on our last night without being told or informed it was closed. Multiple times we tried to go to a certain buffet in our part of the resort or a different part the buffet was closed with no warning and the place is huge so you have to request a shuttle to go from place to place so it was very inconvenient.Lots of people had said that there was a ton of seaweed on the beach and on the water so they couldn’t really go in the ocean but we didn’t experience that at all. The beach was free of any seaweed and yes there was a little bit of it in the ocean but the water was mostly clear and very inviting. The only problem we had at the beach was that my daughter got stung by a jellyfish (quite a few other people did as well) but that’s the risk you take when you swim in the ocean regardless of where you are, the lifeguard was super helpful and put some vinegar concoction on it which helped her very much. The swim up bar pool and wave pool were our favorites. Our kids had the best time swimming around being able to swim up to the bar and get a drink. Another thing was the mosquitos, I myself got chewed alive where I had welts all over my body. One night we had to travel to a different part of the hotel to find a buffet due to the one we wanted to go to was closed, again unbeknownst to us, and when we sat down with our food we all were getting chewed alive so we left after 5 minutes, Overall, three stars as most of the staff is friendly and the resort itself is beautiful.
