I'll keep it as simple as I can. My husband & I just returned from a last minute 5 night stay. We did the upgrade to the "Platinum side" which boasted a quieter area of the overall resort but as far as the room went, it did not seem "platinum". We were supposed to have concierge service but didn't really see any sign of that other than a glass of champagne at our 3 hour late arrival (no fault to hotel, that was due to flight delay). Pros: Decent entertainment. The group of dancers they had did a great job throughout the week & were clearly talented. No reservations needed at restaurant which was nice. The buffet had more of an a la carte dining vibe (you couldn't just walk in & sit, you had to wait to be seated etc.) Beautifully well maintained grounds. Attention to detail and clean. Gym was adequate & we used it every day (do wish they'd had kettle bells & bands though). Room was adequate, we were not provided a choice & soon learned we were given a smoking room which thankfully was well cleaned as normally we would have requested an alternative. Odd that they didn't ask though. Food: A la carte's were decent, some better than others as far as food but service was great at all locations. We did not partake in any excursions due to the limited time we were there. This resort had one of the best beaches we'd seen and was expansive. The burgers at the beach hut were amazing. Bar service was good and pool side service was often available. As adult only we had access to all resort areas but preferred to stay on the adult only side. Cons: The theatre while expansive always had a musty smell which was odd, smelt like it needed a good carpet cleaning. The platinum side was a bit dull during the day so if you like a lot of action or opportunities to get involved in you'd likely want to go to the other resort sections. They do warn you in advance & on signage, but the "Mexican raccoon" animals are found everywhere so although they were not a nuisance to us, a fair warning to make if your skittish about that sort of thing, they are much less prominent in the platinum adult section. I am a picky eater with an almond allergy & never had trouble finding something on a menu however, the buffet did present allergy challenges as they don't individually label each dish but list for example 10 dishes on a sign. The dishes are not always in the order they are on the list so its a Russian roulette game. At times I just didn't dare try something in particular the dessert section. My husband also normally likes to spend time in the pool but said it was frigid. They don't appear to heat them. We had warm weather (average was 25C but that left pools chilly). Overall a great resort. We would return too with few if any con's to mention. Staff were always pleasant & helpful. Our maid service was great & thorough.

This adult only resort was very nice and I will return when I can! That alot, I've stayed at multiple all inclusives (on a budget) and this is the one I will gladly return to. We entered our room to champagne on ice (and actually good) and 3 mickeys of booze. All complimentary. I traveled with my sister, we stayed had a deluxe swim out room. The pictures are ACCURATE! Exactly as posted, it is a very open concept (bathtub is behind frosted glass and private shower with big rain heads) the toilet is in a separate room. The room was exactly as described and the swim out was clean. It is not private, but we had good neighbours, we stayed in a room off the main pool, it did get loud from about noon to 6pm but quiet all other times. The mini fridge was stocked daily and bottled water was easy to come by. The food wasn't bad, the restaurants are your best bet (fresh is always better) and he buffet was ok, its a buffet, pick and choose and hope for the best. There were staff to cook chosen items as you wait, that was good. The beach is quite small with no real swimming area, but to an and read a book it was never crowded at our stay. If you want to swim, go next door to the family resort and there is a shallow sandbar ! That was great for wading/swimming out but it is SUPER busy and alot of people. The staff were quite nice, a few just learning english, but on the all, wonderful people working there. The night shows were GREAT! The dancers they have are good and there was a variety (burlesque, fireshow, etc). We stayed 8 days, and did not do everything there was to offer! and barely explored the sister resorts. It was about 40min from the airport to dropoff and about 20min into playah del carmen. Great location. THERE WAS NO SOLICITATION AT THIS RESORT! The only thing they tried to sell was the massages on site, when we said no they did not pressure us at all. It was wonderful, no timeshare spiel, nothing. If the food had been better (ok the fresh churros were amazing! and I lived with a cafe latte in my hand and premium booze is included aka crown royal, khalua, etc) It would have been a 5 star. The only negative was cleaning of the bathroom, there was a squished mosquito on the wall in the bathroom and a dead ant on the floor for 5 days of our 7 nights. On that, the beds were made, there was also turn down service the first 4 nights (dunno what happened on the last days). Wifi is free and is actually decent speed from our room and any common area (did no reach to he beach) GO! go stay here, you wont be disappointed if you're on a budget :D Footnote - I saw reviews on shady security, never had an issue.

We flew the 11 hours from Sweden to Mexico with high expectations for a 14 day stay. Let's start with the good 1. The service from some of the staff The morning and afternoon waiters Geramel and Brian are just incredible. Efficient and just super good guys, working together as a team to provide the highest level of service. Bartenders Alejandro and Arbner are extremely skilled and worthy of praise. 2. (Some of) the food The seafood night at the buffet is really good, with freshly made lobster - delicious. The Mexican night also delivered high quality food. Rodeo Grill serves good meat. 3. The effort put in during New Years What a great party and what crazy amounts of effort put in. This was certainly the highlight and we had so much fun 4. The (quiet) pool side On the north side, the pool area by the bar is really nice where you can connect with new people and have a good time 5. Sports facilities The tennis courts are good and you can, for free, do the batting cages and play table tennis. The gym is also quite nice. 6. (Some) of the people The overall clientele of this hotel is not too uptight or posh, and we made many great friends and had nice conversations with other guests. Some, however, are there just to get drunk and can be somewhat disturbing. And the bad 1. The overall finish and cleanliness You can tell that the hotel has a couple of years on its neck. Not good enough in terms of cleanliness and overall finish, such as the mildew smell in the elevators and the rooms. 2. The event team Every event turns into an awkward display of sexual nature. Don't participate in their "competitions" by the middle pool - it will seem like a fun idea at the beginning, but there always "an extra challenge" by the end which often involves being peer pressured into drinking or twerking or dancing in front of all the other guests. Some of the event staff lack situational awareness. I made the mistake of participating in a "competition", whereby the guy with the microphone insinuated that I was interested in another female member of the event team. Really embarrassing behavior from their side which made me really uncomfortable. 3. The food OK, I mentioned the food as being a strong point, but the general buffet is not that great overall. Some highlights here and there, but overall quite lackluster. Overall: we enjoyed our stay but will probably choose another hotel next time.

The Yutacan is a beautiful resort. Very well maintained and clean with a romantic feel to it. From the concierge, bellman, servers, housemaids, the staff working in the spa to the entertainment and bartenders everyone was extremely courteous and kind. As a vegetarian I had no issues with the food and all the non-vegetarian options looked fantastic. I only visited the buffet and enjoyed it everytime. Waitstaff is fantastic there. A special shoutout to the entertainment crew - Alex, Angie, Súper Mario, Eder, Ivete, Edith, Tony, Beto, Felix. A bunch of great people with great energy. The bartenders - Humberto, Colli, Manuel, Rosy, Deisy y Catalina. Service was always on point and they are all super sweet. CocoBongo - Eduardo. Honest and kind. The resort does quiet down quite early but that worked for me. Those looking to party later into the night there are many options not too far from the resort. Overall loved the experience. Spent a day down on 5th. Has a lovely day/night. Read the reviews and know what you are looking for in a vacation. Definitely recommend the Yatucan.

The wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The place was amazing, drinks were great. the food looked good but tasted horrible. We took a tour of an old temple and while waiting for our bus back we ate at a dive restaurant and scarfed down some fish tacos and guacamole. We later flew to Cuba and stayed in Old Havana, and the food there was so much better. Do not do the all-inclusive at this resort. Go out and eat real Mexican food in town. You will be happier.
