Deleted my review so I’m reposting: A review of Iberostar Playa Alameda Starting off by saying; this is NOT my first time in Cuba, but the first time at this resort (and last) Day 1 started with a great check in and we got taken to our room by a cart so we didn’t have to walk. I stayed in 1716 and 1715 was another 2 ladies in our group, with my mom upstairs in 1717. Our building; newly renovated, to Cubas standards of newly renovated (it was good) except for the broken railing that caused one of our ladies to fall down the stairs on day 3. Our room: standard, nice. Moldy but to be expected for a cheap resort and the humidity. Springy bed, but decent enough to sleep on, it’s Cuba. Stained bed sheets, never replaced even when asking. Shower was cold until the last day, I wore shoes in the shower because of all the mold. Broken sink that leaked all over the bathroom floor and didn’t hold water, we lived with because everyone else was already going through something. One of our friends sliced their toe right open after maybe 30 minutes on the resort (the second they opened their door) The doors for most our group didn’t lock, the other half the keys didn’t work, some got locked out for 30 minutes to an hour. And once they do open, you have to push (be careful I’m sure you don’t want a sliced open toe as well) one girl didn’t have a room until 2am. Day 2, our first full day there: the day I decided that we really should have changed resorts when we started seeing off reviews on multiple platforms. Yes there was food, but unless you like cabbage, boiled hot dogs, floured eggs, and hard rice there wasn’t anything else. Edible (until half of us ended up with food poisoning) ?? After a day in the sun I grabbed the GLASS giant water bottle from the fridge, it landed on the ground cutting my foot with blood all over the room, glass EVERYWHERE to the point it shattered all the way into the bathroom. (My fault YES; but the lack of care was them) 1) We called the front desk, no answer our friends next door called, no answer, and my mom upstairs called, no answer. 2) My friend ran to the pool bar (closest) told them we needed medical and clean up. 3) she ran to the lobby and told the front desk that there’re was blood and glass everywhere, in my foot and all over the room. They took their hand and shood her off (the manager too at that) We didn’t see anyone at all, never. The maid ended up cleaning it at 3pm when she got to our room the next day. (We pushed some of the glass into the hallway in a pile for her) Wifi? You’re on vacation so you don’t really need it, but if you do, good luck. Most of us ended up living without it or paying for our data connection. Not enough entertainment to put down the phone and relax. Entertainment: there is not a lot. * the same show every night at 10pm * Music in the lobby at 8pm * At the pool at 4pm there’s a 8 minute dance lesson (the same 3 dances everyday) * A water ballet on Fridays, and a weak beach party (there was no one at this said beach “party” Yes there’s a night club… but…. Small, empty, needed actual music than random beats. There is no music at the pool, or beach unless it’s for their 8 minute dance lessons ^ so bring a speaker. Off resort? The best days we had was when we got classic cars and went into Havana & convertibles twice into varadero. The tour guide made sure we were taken care of (get2knowcuba) best tour company! Other vacationers: everyone we spoke to wanted to leave, from cockroaches in their room, no service, no edible food, some also with food poisoning. Food Poisoning: yes it happened, to a handful of us. I got what I paid for, yes. Yes we knew about the shortages, we luckily brought snacks with us, some brought toilet paper, and we brought our own towels. But we didn’t expect the long bar lines (took us an hour when we got there to get something at the snack bar at 1am) they have 1 (sometimes 2) bartenders working. We waited anywhere from 15 to 35 minutes on average to get a drink daily. Besides the small hidden bar (best rum punch and only bar to make actual good drinks ??) Or the blood on our sheets, broken sinks, no food, and coming home with food poisoning and a cut open foot because by day 7 we still had no one ask about that. The grounds were nice, gardeners brought us flowers a couple of days, plus dogs / kitties and lizards ?? The pool is nice, the beach is nice (go to the left for soft beach water, the right for rocks and coral) Staff; very little we’re friendly, some… no smile, no hello (and yes we tipped big, there was 17 in our group) * Maid in building 17 was amazing, basically the only person to show us a smile. Pros: nice pool, nice beach, DECENT drinks, off resort treatment. Cons: everything else. Definitely not the place for me (or for 97% of the other vacationers we met last week) definitely not “4 star” not even for Cuba, more of a 2 star on the Cuban radar. I’ve been to some nice Cuban resorts before that cost similar Not the WORST but there’s 1000% better. Especially for the fact a lot of people recently going have gotten food poisoning. Good luck! (don’t go here please)
