Activities

Mazatlan is arguably the billfish capital of the world. Folks come from all over the planet to hook swordfish, marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi, tuna and wahoo.

Experienced crews specialize in practical conservation methods, and anglers are encouraged to sign up for the catch-and-release program. Besides, a certificate is so much easier to take home than something from the taxidermist. Rates vary, but count on at least US$100 per fisher per day.

Bottom fishing is also an option for reeling in red snapper and sea bass. Plenty of state-of-the art fishing fleets are available in Mazatlan, with modern and fully equipped boats berthed in three main marinas, two of which are located in the heart of the hotel zone

The best time for sailfish is typically March to December. For blue and black marlin, it's best from May to December. Swordfish and striped marlin are at their peak from December through April.
