Just returned yesterday from 8 nights at SB. Firstly I scoured all the reviews here before booking and am not a ‘nit-picker’ at all, e.g. the pigeons trying to grab scraps off plates on outside tables didn’t bother me in the slightest. Having travelled a lot and stayed at many good and great hotels, I put this in the good category only. We paid £2,150 each for 8 nights AI and I believe this was overpriced for what it was, considering we spent a week in Mauritius AI at a superior hotel for £1,650 each. Starting with the good stuff - food was good, drinks sufficiently strong, room (ocean view ground floor) was very good in both size and decor including bathroom. Beach stunning, really knockout. Pool beds v comfortable. Collins bar lunches were tasty too. Decor of whole hotel very tasteful and pleasure to spend time across the resort, very relaxing. I found some of the staff great and genuinely friendly and helpful, I also found other staff surly and quite unhelpful. Service at the main restaurant for drinks I found to be very slow, with not enough servers. Easier to allow people to pick up jugs of ice water for their tables themselves and focus on getting hot tea and coffee served promptly at breakfast. We came back one eve (day 3) to find there was a movie screening on the beach right near our room. The next day we discussed why we didn’t know it was happening, my partner went to reception to ask about activities, mentioning the movie screening and that we’d have been sure to make the start of it had we known. The lady handed him a photocopied timetable of all hotel events and activities for the upcoming week. When I suggested it would have been super helpful to hand this out at check in with welcome letter she just said ‘we don’t hand out at check in’ and that was that. One example of how they could have edged into great, but didn’t. Sun beds on the beach are uncomfortable and look very tired on such a beautiful beach. I would visit Barbados again but I wouldn’t stay here, for this money I would rather stay B&B further up the west coast and keep the remainder for eating out at local restaurants instead.

Don’t be fooled, this hotel is the definition of Mediocrity and that’s when it’s at its best. One of the worst hotels I have ever been to. I have been to many resorts and I can tell you it is 100% overpriced and over rated

Just returned from this amazing hotel where the staff are so committed to you having a good time. Situated right next to the wonderful white soft sandy beach in sight and sound of the rolling waves gives the perfect place to snorkel finding fish only a few metres from the shore. It is all inclusive and you are spoilt for choice both at the bar of which there are three Pool, Restaurant and Beach and a varied menu in the Restaurant where you have three choices areas to sit. Be sure to pre book the Sizzling Steak Restaurant and especially the Asian Restaurant called Umi . The entertainment at night is also superb especially Sunday when you are entertained by Virgo a three female singing group who are just amazing. The hotel is nicely situated only a bus ride from Bridgetown and a bus or taxi to St Lawrence Gap - a visit to this hotel is highly is recommended.

We have just returned from a lovely 11 night honeymoon at sugar bay. This place is amazing! Paradise in fact. This was my first time in Barbados and will definitely be returning. All inclusive was amazing. Any cocktails you want making then Andre is your man!! He is an amazing person and a credit to Sugar Bay as well as Helen and Derek. Actually all the staff were amazing. They can't do enough for you and always asked how your day was going no matter how busy they were. We enjoyed the Collins Bar for lunch, burgers, hot dogs, chips. Very good. The Steak house is also a must! The food was amazing. Go for the fillet!! The entertainment at night was good. Singers, dancers etc. However after 10pm it went a little quiet and people seemed to go back to their rooms. But this didn't bother us. We were there for a chill out anyway and early nights meant early mornings to catch the sun :) The beach is were we would go for the amazing view and the sea breeze. The rooms are amazing and always clean and the beds are so comfy! another thing that i was impressed with was our all inclusive band was also our room key so there were no messing about in the bottom of your bag trying to find the room key! Very good idea! I would recommend a trip to Harbour lights and a Friday night at Oistins. Also our travel agents advised us to take US Dollars. Unsure why as everywhere took Barbados dollars. Everyone were so friendly, from the taxi drivers to the locals!! All in all an amazing holiday and would definitely recommend. Cannot wait to return!! Thanks Sugar Bay!

First trip to the Caribbean and loved Sugar Bay Hotel. Food was excellent -particularly loved the UMI Sushi Restaurant and great buffet breakfasts in the Reef Restaurant literally right by the beach. We had a standard room without a sea-view as didn't think we'd spend much time in the room anyway! Absolutely loved the location -sitting right by the beach for meals and snacks was great. Some lovely touches as well e.f. in a "tough day" sunbathing staff bought round chilled face towels soaked in Eucalyptus for you to freshen yourself up! Also very impressed with the entertainment provided - there was an all-girl group on Sunday nights (called Virgo) who are absolutely exceptional but there was good entertainment every evening - which always finished at 10:00 so didn't disturb anyone who wanted an early night. We absolutely loved our relaxing Winter Sun break here and hope to go back.
