Stayed in this hotel for 12 days. Wonderful staff and excellent service. Very kind and friendly people! They always say hello, and in a restaurant they will always ask how are you. I would like to mention the waitress Liannys Rodriguez Sosa - a very friendly and sweet girl, she will always come up and offer help, she always asks the guests if everything is in order. In recent days, knowing our preferences, she brought tea as soon as she saw that we had come, because we always sat at the same table. A very kind girl. Special thanks to her! Delicious and varied food three times a day, animators at the hotel. Also a great opportunity to rent a bike or car. You can go anywhere. Not far from the hotel is the best beach of Cayo Guillermo - Pilar, which is undoubtedly a big plus.

The hotel in general is really welcoming, with plenty of choices of restaurants, a superb beach that's a little more out of the way (thus allowing a quiet place to enjoy the clear water). For the food, we were pleasantly surprised ... we were told not to have too many expectations for food in Cuba in general, however it was very good and appreciated. The Indian restaurant .... wow. They once had an Indian chief and it shows! The staff works hard and efficiently to ensure that everything is to our liking (both the waiters and the cooks). Finally, and my most important point, the staff is WOW. We want to go back there just for them. We especially had the opportunity to share beautiful moments with the animation team; Livy, Denise, Carlos, Juan Carlos, Yaritza, Ilian, Alienn, Yoivydj, Yobany, Jose, Ketty, Ana Karla, Pinky and Arcel. I take the trouble to name them because their work is just memorable. This said, every staff member deserves an applause for their hard work and dedication. There is a cigar room, where we find Nelson. His service is on point and he will advise you on rums and cigars, and will make you his cappuccinos that are delicious.

Overall Rating 4.3/5 HERE’S A BREAKDOWN: ROOM 5/5 Really nice and very clean. We got towel animals everyday! Very comfortable bed. Spacious and still looks new. We loved the rain shower. No issues at all except the TV remote wasn't working but then it got fixed within one hour (probably the batteries). WIFI 5/5 I was surprised that it was free. I was expecting to pay $1/hour like I read in previous reviews. But we got a login and password that lasted 14 hours per person and we could ask for more at anytime. Wifi was good and we could get signal everywhere—in our room, restaurants, lobby, around the pool and even on part of the beach! FACILITIES 5/5 Beautiful landscaping with lots of flowers. Pools were nice. We liked having rocks on one side for tide pools (we caught and released a big crab). Beach was gorgeous and we walked along it for a long way down to the pier that belongs to another resort. STAFF 5/5 Amazing people! So friendly and kind. Even though we tipped many staff members everyday, we never felt like it was expected. We never felt like they were being nice just because they know that we usually tip. The staff seemed very genuine. FOOD 2/5 This was the only "problem" and the ONLY reason why we might not return to this resort (because we loved everything ELSE about it). We didn't have high expectations about the food but it was even worse than I expected. In general, we are not picky eaters. We like airplane food, love cruise food and even all kinds of fast food. We are not food snobs. But the food here really was not good. To be fair, it could've been because the resort was operating at really low capacity due to COVID. We were told that there were only 300 guests that week but they can accommodate over 2000. So maybe when they are busy, the food would be better. It was very repetitive and bland. For every meal at the buffet they would have the same things-- bow tie pasta in cream sauce and also in tomato sauce, boiled carrots, pork, yucca, eggplant. The best part was the grill station for chicken, fish or beef but even then it was only salt and pepper, so it was bland. There's potential but they just have to season things more. No hot sauce at all. Even their burgers are weird like too much filler. COVID PROTOCOLS 3/5 There were some measures taken but you really have to take a lot of personal responsibility to stay safe. We took a COVID test at the airport and were supposed to get the results by the next morning, but our Air Canada Vacations representative during our morning meeting said that the results never came. We were only asked to wear masks on the resort for the first 24 hours (supposedly until our COVID results arrived), but this was never enforced. We NEVER ended up getting official COVID results, but we were told by front desk that “no news is good news.” Staff were required to wear a mask at all times and MOST of them did. However, several staff members regularly had their masks below their noses, or only pulled them onto their faces when they saw guests approaching. Also, the staff members no longer live on resort (as they did in previous months for a one/two-week shift). Now the staff get bused in from the mainland towns/cities everyday. The buffet was crowded at certain times so we just wore masks in there for the whole week. There were supposed to be staff scooping the food for you so there wouldn’t be hundreds of people touching the same tongs, but when it was busy, there wasn’t enough staff to do this. Instead of patiently waiting, I saw some other guests helping themselves and touching all the serving utensils (and even some kids using their hands to get food). For your room, there are at least 2 people who enter your room on a daily basis – a person who cleans it AND a person who refills your water/pop. There’s no sign (i.e. do not disturb sign) that you can put on your door to indicate that you don’t need service that day. It seems like unnecessary exposure to have TWO people enter your room (and everyone else’s room) every single day. But I really do think it’s a personal responsibility to keep your own family safe so we wore masks at indoor common areas, carried hand sanitizer with us around the resort and used our own disinfecting wipes to sanitize our door handles, light switches and fridge door in our room everyday. FINAL THOUGHTS: Overall I would return to Cuba and to an all-inclusive resort but I am not sure if it would be this one. (Unless I read some updated reviews later that their food has improved.) We loved everything about it, EXCEPT for the food. But for my family, the food can really make or break a trip for us.

I went to the Grand Muthu with a friend (it was his third time) and we had a blast! There wasn't a lot of guests, so the night shows were cancelled. But the food was great, everyone extremely nice and helpful. I really want to thank Will for the catamaran excursion, at the food and bar Claudia, Dayi, Leslie, Omar, Tato, Nelson (Boom is my new favourite cocktail!), Julio (the guy who can do everything from dinner reservation to bartending or plumbing) and all the animation team: Illian, Ana, Juan Carlos, Giovanni, Alienn, you guys were the heart of my stay, the laughter, the sweetness, the energy despite the fatigue... You are really the gems of the resort. I understand why guests come back, I cannot wait to see you again!

Just returned from two weeks stay. Strong points : staff is tested then isolated living at resorts in 9 day cycles. Food was very good using Pig toasts Turkey and roasted fish at carving stations. others meat at serving stations. Fresh fruit every day. Don't see it wait 5 mins it will be there. They work 16 hour shifts and still smiled and took great care bravo! Cuba residents get rationed to one day food supplies. Be kind to them. tipping as you can afford. Do this as a little goes far. Hotel is very new and rivals Hyatt or secrets. Incredible. Beach is sand flats that go far out. Be careful for tides. They scrape beach daily. entertainment crew Jose wears shoes size 10 half. Presently wears size 8 and his feet are rubbed raw and cut. he would gladly accept used running shoes. He is a biologist who keeps up to 22 dogs as a rescue service. Talk to staff and with gaining your trust they are remarkable people. Maybe 40 persons at huge hotel. Covid safe no brainer.
