This was our third year in a row going to The Melia in Cozumel. We had booked our typical week stay right before the mandate went in requiring the Covid negative test to fly back to The States. We had considered cancelling, but when the resort offered the free testing and the additional two weeks of quarantine time, we decided to go. I am so glad that we did. The resort is never "crowded," even in normal years (or at least not when we go in February). This year, there were even less people, which gave the resort a more "exclusive" feel. The loungers at the pool and the beach are spaced for social distancing, as are the tables in the restaurants. Employees wear masks and the guests are requested to wear them in "common" areas. (Don't worry, no soggy mask at the pool or beach). You are served your food in the restaurants, even the buffet. It's different, but it works. The restaurants are open, but it's really important to make reservations this year, due to the spacing. It was misty/rainy when we arrived, but it's still better than what we had back home. Upon our arrival, Antonio checked our bags at the door (which also gives them a chance to sanitize your stuff) and took our temperatures (digital at the neck) before we went to the desk to check in. The check in went smoothly. We asked our questions, got our health form (which you will need to turn in to schedule your Covid test), and went to our room. It was a long flight, so we headed to the snack bar. It had just closed, but they sent us to the buffet. They were getting ready to clean up for dinner, but let us go through and get what we wanted....and nobody complained. I was so happy when Adrian recognized us from previous years and came over to greet us with a "You Came Back!" and what I knew was a huge smile, even through a mask! What a great way to start a vacation and it only got better from there! With the rain, came seaweed. It happens. There was a crew out there early in the morning, to clean off the beach. The staff....I can't say enough about the staff. They were all wonderful. Patricia at the omelet station in the buffet would greet you every morning with such energy and joy that it was contagious! Chef Francisco was fun to chat with. All of the wait staff went above and beyond. Maximilano and Fredy were especially helpful. We enjoyed the coconut ice cream that Ana brought to us. We found that we were going through a lot of water at the end of the day and I left a note for housekeeping to leave more water...our water was more than amply supplied after that. The activities, both during the day and night, were fun. I enjoyed the Flashlight Show, The Circus, and the band that played. The gentleman that played at the pool on Thursday for an hour was also great (actually, if he would have played longer, I would have been okay with that, too). Please remember, too, that the swim up bar pool is adults only. That's part of the draw for adults that are looking for some R&R. Now the rooms: We have only had rooms each year in the main tower, oceanfront, deluxe or higher level. I cannot speak for any of the other rooms. Our room has always been more than satisfactory. They are decorated very nicely and how do you go wrong with a view of the ocean every morning and the sound of the waves at night. Before booking, read the description of what is all included in that kind of room. We feel that we pay a fair and decent price for the kind of room that we have. The bedding is comfortable and the room has everything that we need. Covid test: I thought that they did a good job explaining the procedure ( I had already been tested twice before, so I knew what to expect). They explained the results and you got a print out of the results and an email with the results. We flew out of Cozumel and the airport seemed to be looking for the paper copy. We flew United. If you fly out on Friday or Saturday, schedule your test for the day or 2 before...and don't wait until the last minute. The appointments fill up fast and the medical staff isn't there all day. You just can't go wrong staying at The Melia. This is a quiet resort, but one you can have a lot of fun at. If you're looking for kegger parties, you should probably book someplace else. Yes, this year was different, but we had such a good time and met some wonderful people. I know that this is an all-inclusive, but, if you can afford it, and it won't break the bank, remember to tip the workers. It was greatly appreciated in previous years, but this year, probably more so.

My family of 6 just spent a week at the resort and we had a fabulous time. The rooms were exceptionally clean, the restaurants served a large selection of food and custom orders were not a problem at all the serving stations. (definitely enjoy the pizzas with homemade dough crusts) The staff serves all the food and I really liked it and hope that stays the same at all inclusive resorts going forward. (no more sticky spoons) The staff is AMAZING! They are so helpful and friendly. The beach is clean with good snorkeling nearby. The resort is quiet after 10 pm unless it is a special activity night but that was a bonus for us as we were there for some R&R. We met many different families and couples that were staying anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Wish we could have stayed longer. I do not understand the people that complain about this place. I thought it was wonderful. Definitely get the massages by Lourdes and tip generously to the wait staff. They were amazing and so helpful!

Seamless all inclusive great beach covid safe, Food fine by our standards though gourmets may have some issues. Service generally ok in buffet area. We found the beach grill very efficient. The on site covid testing is very handy we were there in the first weeks required and hopefully it has gotten smoother. Doctor and staff come to hotel you have scheduled appointment. When the desk tells you to fill out form to schedule do it right there at front desk at admission. We were there a little longer stay and testing is booked up heavily Thursday and Friday as the flights are mostly Saturday and Sunday. Doctor was very accomadating and careful Gerardo and Antonio at the front door were our favorite staffers. We went for many mile walks everyday and they would always ask where we went and ask where which way we were going that day. Housekeeping will bring you extra water bottles to room definitely ask for that right away. mini fridge can be customized to choice of some beverages. THE LAUNDRY IS Closed. Would have liked to have know that more clearly in advance. A clearer outline of facility with on screen map and what services are when would help. To go coffee is available but did not offer lids which would be nice. Breakfast in my pinion was great Did have a super bowl BBQ and big screen covid correct which was cool. It is a cab ride anywhere else lots of taxis out front unless you have time to walk. It is an hour walk to Marina if you catch scuba boat or fish. Snorkeling was good sea grass rays small fish

My husband and I booked a week long trip through our travel agent. The young ladies at the front desk looked down at us because we booked with a travel agent and not directly with them. They told us we couldn’t stay in the main building because we used a travel agent. I got news for you Melia my travel agent is why we stayed at your hotel. We were put in the 3 story building at the end of the property, 3rd floor. The room was clean and roomy. The drinks in the mini fridge was replenished every day. We would enjoy the balcony before dinner. The buffet restaurant served a large variety of food. Breakfast there was an omelet station. Dinner there was grill station that served fish, chicken, pork or beef. The pool bar was my favorite. Every bartender was friendly and creative with mixing drinks. Mary & Cesar in the activities department were a blast! We really enjoyed the activities they ran. The hip hop show and the water circus shows were my favorite. The beach at the Melia is the best on the island. We liked sitting on the beach reading & having a few drinks. The only problem is that after 10 pm there is nothing to do. I’m on vacation I want to live it up, not go to bed at 10 pm. Was grateful for the COVID testing on property. I would stay here again.

    Not really "All-Inclusive"

Hotel staff at check-in could hardly speak English, a lot of confusion, no tour of property. Even though it was all-inclusive, the hotel limited you on the amount of water bottles requested and made you pay out of pocket for additional. So if you are pregnant and can't drink alcohol, then this property is not for you. Was told room service was an option, but a service fee was applied. The restaurant that we made reservations to served cold food and allowed drunk people from the beach to walk through. The adult area let parents from the beach walk up with children at the adult only pool to order drinks, parents would sit their children on the bar tops.
