I realize this review is quite a few months old (pre virus) but I want fellow travelers to know my experiences I had over the years at Club Amigo. My g/f and I used to travel to Club Amigo easily three times per year as it was a inexpensive hotel with a lovely beach life. Prices for two weeks started at $900 for two weeks, even during high season a few years ago. We stayed in the villas, bungalows. ocean view in tropical section and generally enjoyed our trip. Our last time was in the bungalows, where one of the beds was covered in small bugs, underneath the pillow. We immediately reported the incident to customer service , as well as our rep who gave us an upgrade to the villas, (and told us to keep the incident quiet). I seldom went to the bar for a drink (near the villas) as the bar tender basically ignored me and served the locals first unless of course I tipped him a dollar or so. I used to send my g/f who spoke Spanish which was helpful and I assume they thought she was Cuban. Food was hit or miss most of the time. The line ups for food at lunch time and weekends was terrible. I have nothing against the Cubans butting and pushing in front of you but there has to be some kind of order. If the hotel improves., and the prices stay the same we may revisit again.

    Gladly would return

Went for Aniversary. Goid price. Met lots of great people, some we met elsewhere in Cuba a few years earlier. One of the very few isolated (kind of but not really) resorts that I would gladly stay at again. There is so much to do that I will be forgetting in this review. Pros: Clean room. Nice shower. Working fridge. Food was pretty good. Pirate beach. Locals beach. Attached by walkway to Brisas so you can walk forever along ocean. Friendly staff. Bungalow pool has swim up bar and constant salsa classic playing. Said server at pool bar has piercing eyes. Could not look her in the face. Great animacion staff. All friendly and hard working. Fun night shows. Karaoke etc. Actual Cubans stay here. Really good cocktails (esp at pirate beach and lobby). Large grounds. Won't get bored walking around. Dentist nearby. Lots of pretty places to sit and enjoy coffee. Lots of trainees. All very friendly. Beautiful views. 24 Pool bar. Excursion up mountain is great and cheap. Customer relations man is extremely helpful. There is a private wine room with some very decent wine selections (11 times to Cuba so trust me that is uncommon unless you go hunting). They have a lovely return guest dinner with amazing view that I plan on taking part of for my second time going. Pirate beach party. I know I am missing more positives bit o can't keep track. Cons: Not many. Would have liked dance lessons (casino or Son. I would have paid for such a service). Dance club was only open sometimes. I know, not a con for most people but I am used to staying right in town (Varadero or Havana). Although it was anniversary so.. Lol. The first half of the week the bread was the usual Cuban amazing, the second half not so much.

Met some east coast friends, had a great time but very disappointed with the resort.

Resort was clean and nice , gas shortage so grass/weeds were out of control. Food was the worst we have had in over 9 visits to Cuba. Service on the weekend was poor, we were ignored if there was any Cuban visitor wanting service.

    Back again

This was our 3rd time to Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca. 11 days for a more relaxing time than 1 week. There have been some improvements and remodeling that was much appreciated. The Villa room was good with a balcony with a small view of the ocean thru the palm trees. The half lobster was delicious and the a-la-cartes good. Most of our time was spent at the 24hr snack bar. You get used to the hamburgers made with ham. If you go to the resorts in Mexico for the buffets, you won't be happy here. Money changing has to be done at the exchange at the SW corner of the resort. Talking to the staff personally - "Where is your house? How old are your kids?" is a lot more effective than tips, and more enjoyable to get greeted with a hand clasp when you approach the bar. Drinking rum properly is also appreciated - añejo straight. But they do need things. If you go to the "supermarket" across from the handicraft market at the south edge of the resort you can see how little there is. Soap, toothpaste, nail clippers, etc would be much appreciated, especially by those who are not maids and bartenders. They haven't seen chicken in ages. Rather than the tour company excursions, we took the funny little train to the farmer's house and the Indian village. The one to Boca de Sama is only on Fridays now. Lots of fun at the beach party in the pirate cove on Monday nights - but the foam machine was broken, as is the steam train that is advertised. We visited a carriage driver's home and had one night at a B&B on the beach at the end of the road that goes past Brisas. Yuri from cubaguider.com took us to deliver donated medical supplies. The disco is an experience. The dentist at the clinic at the south edge of the resort cleaned our teeth.

Hotel is okay with a lovely and beautiful beach. Staff Desk Front horrible, waiting for hours to do my check-in and not with the best treatment. Restaurant Staff they are nice and always trying to make feel happy all the customers even If the food isn’t good at all. Drinks terrible, food terrible, rooms are okay only the villa’s because the standard rooms at the main building are disgusting. No recommend this hotel. Sorry!!! I need to be sincere!
