We will definitely look to stay at the Kamaole Sands Resort again. The resort was well cared for. The pool area had plenty of seating and was clean. The proximity to a great beach across the road from the resort and a second beach only half a block away. You can walk to restaurants. The Tennis courts are in great condition.

We stayed 10 nights in a condo here. The condo we had was a one bedroom, and had been recently renovated. It was beautiful inside. Reading some of the reviews here, it seems that other units may not be as well maintained as the one we had. Do your research, I guess. The grounds are immaculate. The fountains and flowers are beautiful. The tennis courts are in great shape. The pool gets a little crowded, especially on Mai Tai Wednesday. The entire complex was super quiet at night, and easy to sleep with the windows open. Many beaches and great restaurants are within walking distance. We wanted to get a BBQ site one night, but they were all booked up for most of the time we were there. We also learned that the great deals the concierge promises on Luaus and other attractions are not all that great. You can do better elsewhere. Other than that, everything here was perfect.

We had high hopes for Kamaole Sands and this unit was very good. It was clean and has been renovated in the past. The 1st bedroom had 2 single beds which was great for my teenagers. The masters is a loft upstairs - spacious with a nice master bathroom. The only downside of this arrangement was the lack of privacy as the loft is open so the kids watched TV in the living room and it was a bit noisy upstairs without a door. The TV in the other bedroom did not work despite my tech savvy kids trying to get it working. The telephone didn't work - can dial 9 to get out but could not make local calls to make reservations for dinner or inquiries so that was a real pain. Washer and dryer came in handy. The balcony had a lovely view of the water so that you can watch the sunset each evening. The cabinet on the patio was full of beach supplies, minus a cooler, so we left one there. The concierge was helpful with inquiries. The pool was well kept but the gym needed some updated equipment. It was expensive though - probably to keep the common grounds as well kept as it is. It is across Kamaole II Beach which is our favorite beach in Kihei.

We wanted to stay here from March 9 to March 16th (inclusive).or 8 nights The owner declined because they said they would be missing income if we didn't stay longer. SO that was disappointing. We stayed at another unit on the property with two bedrooms AND 2 bathrooms on the 4th floor with a great view offered on another travel page. The Kamaole Sands property generally is a very nice place and a good base for travel.

Upon arrival, I saw beautifully manicured grounds which I was pleased with and excited me to start our vacation in this place. We went to the office and checked in for our 5 day stay and were immediately charged 182.00 for resort fees and cleaning before we were given keys to our room (which I thought was strange. Don't these usually get charged at the end?). We were assigned room 205 in building 4 which was right alongside a busy road which was not that pleasing, but OK, I had an open mind about it. What came next was a shock. When we opened the door to our room, a sickly smell of disinfectant and dirty old carpet slammed me in the nostrils. It just got worse from there...The carpets were filthy, stained and ripped which made me very uncomfortable walking in. Next, I went to close the blinds of the bedroom which was on the public walkway and they didn't work or close all of the way (Yikes!). Then I went into the living room and went to open the drapes and found that they were torn, moldy and not secured all the way to the track. This place was disgusting and only got worse as the light poured in to reveal just how gross the carpets were! The cabinet doors were old, peeling and hanging crookedly from the hinges in multiple instances and the glass tub/shower doors didn't slide to the degree that we thought they might fall off on us. After a few minutes of taking stock of this room and realizing the condition was totally out of line with the resort and prices, I went back to the office to tell them we couldn't stay in the room. Well, they told me they had no other rooms and we would have to say in that one until the next day. I begged them to find an alternate room, but they wouldn't budge since we had booked through Hawaiian Vacations (booking flight and hotel together - bad idea I came to find out). In hindsight and after spending hours on the phone with Hawaiian Vacations, I should have refused the room and found another hotel all together, but I'll come to that later. We ended up staying in that nightmare of a room for one night then went back to the office the next morning to make arrangements to move rooms. We were told we had to wait until after 3 PM (checkout time) which was totally inconvenient and made us have to stay close by and not do the activities we had wanted to do. At 3 PM, I went back to the office and they tried to tell me that there were no rooms again, but I managed to find one of the people from the previous day that told us that we would be moving to a room in building 8. He helped us get into another room that was a palace in comparison to the P.O.S. room they originally put us in. (BTW-That room has been taken off the rental market as of our departure 3/4/19). Once we moved rooms/buildings, things were good. Remodeled countertops and cabinets, NO CARPETS, drapes that functioned correctly (though they were flimsy and cheap) and shower doors that worked properly. Now that we had that taken care of, the General manager asked us to fill out a paper survey about the first room which I did (and which I learned that he shared with the owner of the room before pulling it off the market). We were refunded the cleaning/resort fee of $182.00 and were told that that was all they could do as we had booked the room through Hawaiian Vacations. I have spent hours on the phone with Hawaiian Vacations with one ineffective representative, supervisor and manager after another trying to get refunded for the nightmare room. They are the worst! If you can help it, NEVER book your hotel through them! They keep pointing the finger at the resort to give me a refund and the resort keeps pointing me back to them. I don't know who is telling the truth, but I will find out and fully intend to get my money back just for the principle, if nothing else.
