Going the exta mile

wow! what a great place.was a bit sceptical before we went ,but pleasantly surprised.Yes a little tlc needed in places and a very few shirkers in the restaurant. However the majority were extremely hardworking and friendly people who kept up with repairs and everywhere spotlessly cleaned every day.Hats off to you all especially when some guests constantly moaning!.was very impressed with everything overall at price we paid. Not 5* but thats not what we wanted or paid for.Cottages and surrounding area absolutely stunning.Special thanks to everyone, though a special mention to David(one of oldest emloyees there !!) in the mornings and our new friend Kedeem in the evening who we got know well, always went the extra mile(without expecting a tip)Definately hoping to return!!
relaxing Jamaican vibes

I have never been to a resort where so many customers have been numerous times and i will also be returning. The food was plentiful and every night there was fish, or different meat including jerk chicken as well as the buffet. The salads were lovely. I liked being able to try a small portion of something new and go back for more if i liked it. There was also plenty of fresh fruit and cakes/pastries. We eat early so maybe our experience was different from someone who eats late. A couple if times there was no cutlery when the restaurant was busy but i just went and helped myself. There was plenty of alcohol available. I don't drink but I enjoyed the non alcoholic cocktails. I bought my own travel kettle as I love tea and although you can get tea and coffee just outside the restaurant the water was not hot enough for tea. We stayed in a refurbished garden room first but had to move to a un refurbished one due to the air conditioner breaking. I preferred the second one. Both were extremely clean and cleaned daily. There is also a ceiling fan which gives a tropical vibe. I saw a review that mentioned cockroaches but I think they were mistaken. The large bugs are harmless crickets. They look like fat cockroaches - my bearded dragon eats them. I found the staff very friendly and helpful in spite having to deal with some obnoxious customers. We stayed in a quiet part of the gardens. There were dogs barking outside the resort sometimes which is not the resorts fault. I liked the Thai and Jamaican restaurants you could visit as many times as you want - you just have to book the day before. The beach is set in four coves and every day the beach was swept. I recommend beach shoes to wear when swimming in case you put your foot on a sea urchin amongst the corol The beach itself is beautiful sand. If you want a relaxing holiday and to feel you are in Jamaica and not a high rise hotel that could be anywhere and probably twice the price I recommend this resort.
Don’t go there with children

There is not healthy food ! Everything is spicy or too salty , kids won’t eat your daily jerk chicken and frozen fruits . There are not kid’s activities, not even once I heard a song for children but they have 20 staff for entertainment. Not enough sun beds , if you don’t wake up at 6am You won’t have one for the day . There is not a coffee machine on the entire resort, only some water with coffee colour served for breakfast. Waiters at the main buffet will ignore you for good 20 minutes, you will finish to eat with your fingers by the time they bring a fork , they don’t ask if you want drinks and they don’t come to clean table even you have 3 plates on top of each other. Every day was a shortage: or beer, or straws , or cups , or cutlery . Don’t go to eat after 8 pm , you won’t find anything left . The entertainment board is never updated, if you don’t stay in the swimming pool you will never know where/ what is the night show . They served fresh fruit from Caribbean only twice ( once papaya and once soursop ) the rest was from freezer and without taste . Staff is asking for tips, they even remind you their days off just in case you leave and want to tip them in advance, I will tip if I like the service or you do something extra but not because you ask . Location and bungalows nice ( 3 stars ) but service and food is 1 star ??
A Fading Star

This is not an easy review to write for our very recent stay at this hotel! The Royal Decameron Club Caribbean (RDCC) is a sad example of an establishment that clearly has a great history which it is allowing to slip from memory and a fantastic opportunity which it is failing to grasp! We had read the TripAdvisor reviews before travelling but perhaps saw the potential positives outweighing the stated negatives. Unfortunately we found the negatives to be the stronger in our experience! It does mean something that RDCC is ranked 47 of 50 hotels in Jamaica by TripAdvisor! The position and layout of the Hotel, particularly the cabins, in lovely gardens is something that they should take pride in and use more fully to their advantage. We were in a beachfront cabin, 77, and enjoyed the position and the welcome sound of the waves. The standard of finish and fittings within the cabin were well past their “sell by date”! The shower provided only hot water from both taps. The air conditioner cover was held in place by an Elastoplast and one day it gave a bang and spat out a 2 inch long piece of plastic! A daily cleaning schedule was completed to a good standard. Asd commented on elsewhere the beach and sea are lovely. The beach was raked on a daily basis. However we observed the same issues with sunbeds as other reviews highlight. There are too few beds for the number of residents ; they are in a poor condition, faded and dirty ; many beds are “booked” overnight or longer. The food is just about okay, there is always plenty of fresh salad and fruit. Personally I was okay with the lack of “familiar” foods that others have made negative reports on – I appreciate being able to try local cuisine. I found the omelette and pasta stations a favourite. We experienced all the issues with tables not being set, etc. etc. Given the above my biggest concerns are with the attitude to customer care and service. As an experienced Quality Practitioner, while poor service is manifested between the customer and front line staff I hold the management and leadership accountable for this failing. It is Sophine Miller that I feel sorry for – she has to reply to all the reviews and make the generic comment along the lines of “Thankyou for your review, your concerns have been raised with management”. Unfortunately Sophine they don’t appear to be listening to you – I would love to see the day when you can reply to a review with a statement like “Thankyou for your review, your concerns about sunbeds has been highlighted to management and they have placed an order for additional 20 beds due for delivery within the month”! I fear that with the passing of the original owner the ethos that perhaps he brought has been lost. The current owners/managers appear to have a profit first attitude rather than customer first! I wonder if this attitude continues to their attitude towards the staff, so we result in having unhappy staff trying their best to look after customers – result is poor customer service! Front line customer service was, with a few exceptions, poor! I reported the problem with our shower on numerous times but apart from being told I was using it wrongly nothing was done. The general service within the main restaurant (canteen?) was slow and at times passively aggressive even though we tried our best to be cheery and positive in our interactions. If money is tight at least try to do some training on customer service please. Good service and positive reaction to complaints and problems can make a big difference for a relatively small investment and might buy RDCC some time to make some bigger improvements. Otherwise I can only see this hotel getting worse.
