Another great week in the sun

wileaw (Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada) on Apr 12, 2024

This is our 2nd trip to GV and we'll be back again. We also just go basic, no vip or upgrades and have always enjoyed ourselves. Things we love : The size of the resort, it is nice and compact. The beach (including the reef with fish), so beautiful. Bring water shoes for around the reef (urchins and sharp stones). The food, pretty good variety and quality for the size of the resort. Beautiful, well kept grounds. The friendly staff, they really make your vacation happen. Nicholas at the remote beach bar is fantastic ! I would say the resort is not perfect though. Pools are small and if you need evening entertainment later, most of shows/events close up early. This could be problematic for some travellers, but for us it is a non issue

Decent all-inclusive resort

PRINT OUT OR SCREEN SHOT YOUR HEALTH PAPERS (incl QR Code)! Wifi in airport is bad, can't get in without these! -Resort WiFi - Pretty bad. Some spots you could get it, some you couldn’t. My room was fine but the other room we rented had no WiFi, even with the router showing a signal. After the second day, the internet went out of my room (ergo no smart TV) and came on in the original room. Day 3 we still didn’t have internet or tv, but we were able to hop on the the next room’s wifi. They came and fixed our router the day we left. -Rooms - we stayed in the Saona section near the pool and the rooms were clean, spacious and had a nice balcony/lanai. Bathroom was a good size and the a/c and ceiling fans worked. One room tended to feel a little damp but the other room was fine. Beds are pretty hard. After the second night it started to get kind of uncomfortable. There is only one usable outlet in the entire room (besides bathroom) so be sure to pack portable chargers. -Housekeeping - kept rooms clean but there was no real set schedule to their cleaning and a few times we had to call for towels. When we checked in we had 4 towels, 2 hand towels and one washcloth. Days after that we didn’t have consistent towel service. -Mini bar - “stocked” is kind of a blanket term in that they technically put things in it each day but mostly they just put water in mine. -Royal supreme / superior upgrade is worth it if only for the airport to/from transport. But also because of the dedicated resort specialist, the Vintage Club (cozy bar for select guests, very intimate and excellent staff). Doesn’t appear to give you a room upgrade but our rooms were fine. Private areas on the beach were plentiful for the upgrade but go early if you want the beach bed. There are a lot of peddlers on the beach but they aren’t pushy. -FOOD- -Octopus - Fantastic service but ok food. Mofongo appetizer was delicious. Venezuelan tequenos were basically tiny fried mozzarella sticks with marinara (which both of my kids enjoyed). Chicken and plantain crepes were just ok. 3 of us ordered sea bass in saffron sauce, one ordered chicken curry. Only one was really pleased with his meal. Sea-bass tasted fishy and not in a good way. Desserts were pretty good. If you want an early table, get your reservations right at 8am. -Buffet for dinner - good selection, some hits and some misses but the staff does a great job not allowing anything to go empty. -Ocean Grill - lunch buffet. Just ok. Had fish (was Good Friday), burgers, hotdogs, pizza and MYO nachos with chili. Small salad bar. Drink service was right outside the open air restaurant. They will deliver a pizza to you on the beach though so that was good!! -Ocean grill - dinner. Pretty good, fried fish appetizer was good. Surf & turf dinner was good although the shrimp was meh. Quesadilla appetizer was just ok, chicken fajita dinner was good. Dessert was about the same as anywhere else. -Sapore di mare - best dinner we had. Service was very slow compared to the other restaurants but the food was good and service was friendly. Had chicken Alfredo, tournedos Roquefort and pork scallopini. Antipasti, caprese, mozz sticks and pasta e oili for appetizers. Chocolate cheese cake and pineapple cake for dessert -Smoking was all over the resort but not in an obnoxious way. Smokers were very discreet. There are ashtrays everywhere outside that the staff kept up

A perfect girls getaway!

Julie G on Apr 09, 2024

This hotel was fantastic. The resort was clean ( rooms a bit dated, but who spends time there anyway), food was amazing, and the activity staff was really fun. Shout out to Bryan and Henry for keeping us entertained all week. The beach was really nice, but chairs were sometimes hard to find. I would recommend and go back!

Gran Ventana

The Staff is amazing!!!! the food is very good! at the beach at lunch time, there is chicken wings, 2 kinds deep fried and spicy , hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, nacho chips, cheese sauce, chili, also fried fish! you wont go hungry they have wonderful buffets by the lobby. they had theme nights for the food, breakfast is very good, they have gluten free breads!!. beach is wonderful , love talking to the people selling their wares. smaller resort, had the best time. the only thing we had a problem we had was we enjoy a nice drink in a Glass, (beer, wine whiskey) the main bar has a shortage of glasses so i bring my own, i am not a snob , we are very down to earth, i enjoy a nice drink in a nice glass!!! this was the only issue, will be returning in a few months Miss the people !!!
