    Great resort for a 2-star

    Marival Emotions If you are looking for a 2 star resort this is the place for you. We have travelled to Mexico at least 30 times and this is the worst resort we have stayed at. We were really looking forward to it as many family and friends have stayed here, some come every year. We arrived @ 7 AM and told the clerk we were not interested in time share, we knew check-in was 3 PM, however the clerk told us if we came back @ 1 he would check us in. At 1 he offered us a room with 2 double beds when we had booked king-sized, we said no, at 3 we returned again and he told us “the people had a late check-out and he would let us know when it was available” (really, only one room in the whole resort with a king-sized bed?) We decided to wait in the lobby bar, at 4:30 we again approached him, his reactions was “I forgot” and he checked again. The room was now ready so at 5 we finally were shown the room. The room had a lovely view of the parking lot, overlooking the parrot cage so all day listened to them when in the room and at night the Theater and then the disco started up. The bathroom was disgusting, the sink had numerous cracks with what looked like black mold in them and the tub was a “soft bottom” tub so in the shower it felt like standing on a tarp in the sand. We complained and were told there was nothing else. The next day we decided to do as many others posting on here had done and agree to the timeshare presentation for the promise of an ocean-view room and more. The “90 min” pitch took over 3 hours then we had to have the “closer” sign off on our paperwork, she seemed to think the way to close sales is to wear a blouse undone almost to her waist, showing off her “assets” and the first thing out of her mouth was “if you weren’t going to buy, why are you wasting my time” We did not get the promised room upgrade, and when we complained at the front desk we were told “they have nothing to do with the resort”. After that I went to try to make restaurant reservations, I was told there was nothing available for the rest of the week unless we wanted to eat after 9. I guess the concierge got wind of our complaints, she (Jasmin) called our room that afternoon and arranged to meet to show us a different room. She also managed to get us restaurant reservations for each of the next 3 nights @ 7 I guess you just have to have “pull” to get in. Unfortunately the room she offered was not much better than the one we were in so we stayed put, rather than go to the hassle of moving. The restaurants: first morning we ate at the a la carte…the waiter did not know what a “sunny side up” egg was. Other breakfasts and some dinners were at the buffet. The staff there is very indifferent, on only 2 of the 6 mornings were we offered coffee, and on only one of them did the drinks we ordered get delivered. The female staff stand around on their cell phones and the male staff are busy fawning over any young woman that is not with a male. Of the three restaurants we went to, only the Mexican had decent food (awesome guac made tableside), the Steak restaurant is open kitchen and to watch the “chefs” handle the food with their bare hands not knowing where those hands had been, (on at least one occasion I saw one of them reach under his apron to scratch) I totally lost my appetite. The Italian looked promising, however there was nothing special on the menu and the dishes we did get I could have made better at home.

    This is our 6th visit. We keep coming back for the incredible service of the staff. From the bellman who greets us on arrival to the check out clerk and all in between, we are treated with kindness, friendliness and efficiency. We would like to acknowledge some of the staff who made this trip memorable. Daniel and Lara at the Mai Tai bar, amazing service with a constant smile, no matter what their day may be like. Judith, Gustavo and Enrique at the M&M bar, always friendly, efficient and the worlds best martinis can be had there. Thankyou Judith for your extra personal service you gave us every day. Gustavo, Enrique, your bar tending skills are the best! Finally, Josefina at the la Bamba restaurant. Super friendly and efficient. Knows us by name and greets us with the warmth and kindness you would expect from a family member each year. A few words about the property. Great location, very spacious rooms, clean, Family friendly, lots of activities for all ages. Nightly entertainment in the theatre is very good. What we noticed this year compared to past is a change in the alacart restaurant menue. We miss the old menu at amalfi, especially the ceaser salad. Quality and service still excellent. We are not big fans of risotto rice. We would give this review a 5 had the menus stayed the same. I would highly recommend this property for a great vacation.

    We stayed at the Marival Emotions over New Years. It is a very nice hotel with great amenities. The food was excellent and drinks were good as well. Entertainment was great at the resort and we took in a few shows that the animation staff put on Our room was cleaned daily. They do not stock the fridge with beer, this would have been a nice touch. They do leave a small bottle of tequila in the room for you when you arrive. The rooms seemed to be a bit musty smelling, so we tried to leave our patio door open as much as possible. Pools were nice and warm and the beach was nice as well. There was a variety of food options at the resort and we always found something new each day to eat.

    We had a marvelous time all week long. The food and entertainment was ABSOLUTELY amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff. The only thing missing was the red carpet. We were treated like royalty. Room was extremely clean. Looking forward to returning next year

    Had fun at resort and staff was fun and friendly. Was sad to see that there are 4 gorgeous Parrots kept in small cage on resort. There was some food & water but cage was way too small for then and don't like to see such beautiful birds kept in captivity.
