We stayed at the resort from dec 5th to dec 12th. We have been coming to this Nuevo Vallarta resort for a number of years now. What brings us back each year is that it meets all of our criteria as it relates to LOCATION, STAFF SERVICE, CLEANLINESS, and QUALITY OF FOOD. The LOCATION is great with the best flat and expansive walking beach in the area. And so nice to just easily walk into the water for a swim or soaking. There are plenty of lounge chairs on the beach and around the pools with lots of shade or sun. Nice shopping centre across the street. Easy to also catch the local bus into Puerto Vallarta. We felt very safe walking in the area both during the day and night. The STAFF SERVICING in the resort was exceptional. Rooms were alway kept very clean with the mini bar well stocked with water, beer, soda and nuts. The serving staff around the pool and beach ensured that we were well hydrated. There was always someone coming around to ask if we needed anything to drink. We really enjoyed our late afternoon lounge visits as we watched the beautiful ever changing sunsets. Special thanks to Alma, Jasmin, and Irene from the lounge area, who knew exactly what we wanted and made us feel so welcome. The CLEANLINESS of this resort really stands out. From the rooms, common areas, restaurants, pool areas and beach front, you always see staff ensuring that everything is kept spotless and clean. And finally the FOOD. A great variety for breakfast lunch and dinner. We also went to two of the 3 specialty restaurants with great food and service. But the Buffet was also like a restaurant with lots of food options that was complimented by the staff servicing. Nice ocean view from almost every seat in the buffet. A heads up to Veronica who was so attentive to our needs. But all the other buffet staff we also very attentive. We loved our daily one hour morning walks throughout the neibourhood. A special thank you to Natividad who was always at the top of the stairs and made us feel so welcome as we were leaving and returning to the resort. There was nightly entertainment at the resort. A special mention to the 3 TENORS who were just fabulous. The only negative I have is that the resort does not provide free WI FI. We worked around this by just crossing the street to the Starbucks and or shopping mall that did provide Free WI FI. We will certainly be returning next year.

I stayed at the Occidental Nuevo Vallarta and was impressed with the resort. It is small and everything is easily accessible. The strange thing is that the majority of rooms do not have a balcony. When I am down south I like to sit outside as much as possible. It would have been nice to have. Check in is 3:00 p.m. and check out is 12:00 p.m. and they do not want to waiver from this. We arrived early and they would not accommodate us. We asked for one room to store our bags and to change but the manager would not provide us with a room. We had to wait until 3:00 p.m. I spoke with an individual who said there flight was a 7:00 p.m. and they were told they would have to be out at 12:00 p.m. or it would be $10.00/hour after that. The WiFi at the resort is very good. I was able to have access while sitting in a lounger under the palms at the beach. The staff were very friendly and efficient other than the manager we dealt with. Once I got my room it was a nice size, clean, and a nice view. The fridge was stocked with water, pop, juice, beer and peanuts. The bathroom was a nice size with a large shower. Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working well. I could blow harder than the high speed setting. The low volume of air coming from it was not that cold. I closed the night shades to block the sun from heating up the the room too much. I stopped at the front desk and asked if maintenance could look at that the air conditioning as the fan did not seem to be working. They asked if maintenance could go into the room and I said they could as I had secured everything in the safe. When I returned to the room later that evening I knew they had been there as a card was in the slot to make the electrical work. Unfortunately the airflow was no different from when I left. The Mariachi restaurant would be my favourite. The view was was beautiful. The buffet at lunch was not overly big but offered a very nice selection. I enjoyed everything I had to eat. The pool bar staff were great. They had top shelf drinks. I was able to get Captain Morgan Spiced Rum. While sitting in the loungers under the palms on the beach or around the pool there were always servers asking if we wanted drinks. I loved the walkway between the reception and the buffet in the evening. It was beautiful. The evening buffet was very good. The red wine (Cab Sav) was actually not bad. Strangely they serve it cold. They were by often to refill your glass. I again enjoyed everything I ate. The cast for the evening show came by each table inviting guests to the Michael Jackson show in the theatre. We stopped by the theatre located behind the reception to check out the show. The quality was not that good so we made our way to lobby bar. There were several televisions and Hockey Night in Canada was on. A female entertainer came to play violin. She was very could and it added a nice touch to the evening. Staff again were very friendly and efficient. In the morning you can get coffee to go at Le Buffet. I got a coffee to go and sat on a lounger under the palms watching the waves break. The buffet again offered a nice selection for breakfast. I had a second coffee to go and a sugar donut this time sitting in a lounger around the pool. This hotel has a time share program with an office in the lobby. At no time was I approached about the program. The main floor rooms have patio areas which I believe were for the Time Share guests. There was a pool and bar which I believe was for Time Share guests only. There was a security guard standing on the stairs. The Occidental is located beside the Hard Rock Hotel and just down from Paradise Village and the Marina where many tours leave from. You can walk all the way to Bucerius on the beach if you wanted. I really liked the small size of the Resort and especially enjoyed the food.

Personnel is great! Actually the stay was very good. Beach is awesome!!! The only thing I had an issue with is with the hardness of the bed. VERY HARD Beds! They have added external pillow tops to the beds and that helps somewhat but would be better if they just got new pillow top beds.

Best stretch of beach in the Bay. Good food and drinks. Housekeeping needs to supply maids with wash/face clothes so as to not having to ask for them every day. Rooms do not have balconies! We will return next occasion for the great food and service.

Upon walking into the Occidental Nuevo Vallarta, the lobby made us feel like we arrived in a tropical paradise. We walked up a few red-carpeted steps into the in-door, out-door lobby where sounds of rushing water and a light breeze filled our senses. Checking in was super easy; we found our way to the room in no time. Our room had a slight feeling of wear-and-tear, but the fridge was full, the bed soft and comfy and the overall place feeling comfy. The buffet was good, but also was easy to get bored of. It offered an array of constant options to choose from day and night, with many different choices of fresh fruit, which was a major plus! The 3 restaurants were fun - Mexican, Italian and Japanese - but were only open for dinner. These definitely had the best selection of fresh, fun and different food choices compared to the buffet. Please note that you have to obtain a reservation for each restaurant the morning before you dine. David, one of the main Restaurant Managers, was absolutely stellar. We quickly felt like "friends" and he would greet us for dinner almost every night. He had a great attention to detail and had excellent opinions on the best food the house had to offer. Relaxing at the beach and pool were pretty much the only things we did during our 7 day stay. The sand and water were so warm and relaxing. It couldn't have gotten much better, but it did. The waiters and waitresses were excellent. They would stop by while we were lounging and ask us for our drink orders. Fernando the waiter was especially legendary. He was fun, he remembered us and our favorite drinks and would always greet us with a smile. That guy deserves a raise!
