This is our first stay at an Iberostar resort in Punta Cana. We chose this resort because it seemed like an upscale family destination and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. We booked a Superior Junior Suite which was a bit more expensive than a Junior Suite but I was hopeful the upgrade would get us a better location. Typically I don’t do room upgrades at all inclusive resorts because I usually find the extra amenities aren’t worth the money, but in this case I was more than satisfied. Our room was on the second floor of a villa that was close to both the pool and beach but also in a quiet location. As a bonus our balcony faced the Ocean and we had a great view of the waves breaking on the beach. Our second story room was recently renovated and had a lofted ceiling making the room feel spacious. The bathroom was modern with a large sink but limited counter space. There were lots of hooks for towels and wet bathing suits. Our only complaint would be that the large walk in shower did not have a door, which is fine, but the tile wasn’t completely sloped to the drain so the bathroom floor would want to get wet. We solved this by putting a towel across the shower entrance but it’s a detail that shouldn’t have been missed when the recent renovations were done. The pool was nice and well maintained. Large with several different areas with varying depths and water features. You could swim laps or sit in the shallow “walk in” area. The swim up bar was nice but a bit isolated however it was connected to the rest of the pool via a small tunnel under a pedestrian bridge. There was 2 other walk up bars right next to the pool and lots of staff to get you a drink so you never had to go far or get wet if you didn’t want to. I was bummed there wasn’t a hot tub. I think there was an area in the pool that may have once functioned as a hot tub but it wasn’t working. The food was plentiful with 2 large buffets and several themed restaurants. That being said, the food was just ok for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, we never went hungry, but I felt the food was just average and nothing ever “blew me away”. My immediate family isn’t big on sea food so that’s part of our problem as seafood was plentiful. We traveled with my mother and she loved the night they had crab legs at the buffet and commented that they were very good. The themed restaurants were just ok but my favorite was Japanese. The food was good and our chef did a great job cooking and entertaining us. The steak restaurant was good however my steak was over done and the cut was a bit fatty. I probably could have sent it back but it was fine. We also had the unfortunate opportunity to use the onsite doctor clinic. We had read some horror stories about this but our experience was good. My wife had bad tonsillitis (the worst I’ve seen) and was in a great deal of pain. She was seen right away and the doctor identified the problem immediately and also saw she had an ear infection. He would have liked to send her to the hospital (which is the problem we read about) but we refused and just asked for antibiotics. He prescribed them and something for her ears on the plane ride back. The whole thing took about an hour and cost $250 for which we have insurance that will reimburse us. The highlight of the resort would have to be the people who work here. I have never met people this nice and helpful anywhere I’ve ever traveled. Domingo always had a table ready for us at breakfast and would chat with us and play with my kids. Altagracia would help us at the various restaurants she worked and would help us get reservations when they were hard to come by. She was also great with my kids who really warmed up to her fast. All the entertainment staff by the pool was super friendly and would go out of there way to get you motivated. “Sexy JJ” was everywhere and would talk and tease you like you’ve known her for years. Housekeeping was always friendly and our room was made up with flowers and extra decorations to make us feel special. Yes we tipped but everyone we tipped deserved it. This is better service than I get at home where I tip the obligatory 20% for half the level of service I get here for a few extra dollars. Except for a few issues like the somewhat pushy “timeshare” sales people in the lobby, and the few things I mentioned, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend it.

    Another wonderful Iberostar stay....

Our 6th stay at Iberostar Resorts....2nd time to Punta Cana. My breakdown of our wonderful stay: Rooms: Great! Beds are comfortable. We had a king bed that was made daily and turned down each night. Enough outlets and this year had dedicated USB wall plug in's too that charged quickly. Our AC worked whenever the doors were all closed. If door was cracked open, AC would stop. Neat system. Our ceiling fan had a loose blade that clicked....we reported it and within a couple hours was fixed. Bathroom had stand up shower with shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner bottles on wall. Water temp always good. Safe worked well. Iron and board in room. Umbrellas too. Patio out front of room with drying rack. Restaurants: Buffet was good. Insist to know what the theme is each night. Our gentleman doing reservations did NOT know.... We lucked out with going on seafood night and sushi night. Unlimited reservations to other restaurants. Buffet food is sometimes not always "hot", but still had a large variety. Loved the pasta bar, and daily omelet for breakfast. If you want something here, ask. They aim to please. We ate at: Japanese: Hibachi style! Excellent food and good entertainment if you get the right chef. Mediterranian: Food was just ok for my group. I got the Gilthead fish and it was hot and delicious. Italian: Food again was just ok. Lasagna had way too much meat. Atmosphere was very loud and hard to hear dinner guests talk. Need to do something about acoustics Jambalaya: Cajun style food. Was expecting spicy hot, but not at all. Good food, but expected more spicy from Cajun food. Steakhouse: Could not reserve all week long! Really? We did have a group of 6 but that is just wrong. Drinks: Blenders are used at all bars now. Just need to educate bartenders of drink names. Some knew some drinks and were really good at making them. Then we would go to another bar and order the same drink and they would not know it. However, we were never short on choices like our last stay. Drinks we tried were: Frozen: Cocoloco, Cocoloco with chocolate, Miami Vice, Banana Mama, Bahama Mama, Dirty Monkey, Pina Colada, Strawberry Daqueri. Not frozen: Dominican Republic, Zombie, Malibu/Coke, Bloody Mary, Rum Punch, Iberostar, Presidente Beer. Great Bartenders: Yorki (swim up bar), Michael (in Cool Wagon), Outstanding service! Beach: Windy most days. Only had a yellow flag on the last full day. Beach cleaned daily with tractor. Long beaches with miles to walk in either direction. Grounds: Clean and well taken care of each day. Little garbage from guests. Pools: Not feel wind from Ocean so good option from windy beach. Cleaned daily. Not very crowded. One had a swim up bar. Shows: We attended most shows. Many were good. Really enjoyed Michael Jackson show. My suggestion is to enjoy and realize these are not professionals. I would also suggest some pre-show entertainment besides "dancing with Star Friends". Kareoke, or audience based games starting at 8:30 for a while before announcements of winners at 9:15 of daily activities. Shows start at 9:30. Service: Vera at front desk was outstanding. Very helpful and always smiling. Beatriz that cleaned bathrooms by pool was always singing and smiling. Wonderful Job. Michael 007 Star Friends was amazing with activities and fun to talk to! Only issue was with Francisco at front desk constantly trying to sell us into the talk to sell the "timeshare"....too many times was I talked to by him about it. It got annoying. There is a bus that gives a $5 round trip ride to San Juan Shopping Center. Nice idea, but maybe pick a new place. This "mall" had little to offer. My wife and I went through it in about an hour. Not worth leaving the beach for. Overall....another Great stay at Iberostar. We stayed a week and ate well, drank well, and had lots of laughs away from the cold weather back home. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you once again, Iberostar....You never disappoint!

These are 8 unit villas. very nicely spread out with some closer to the beach and others closer to the lobby/entertainment area. We had a group of 6. We were greeted promptly and got checked in quickly. After initial check-in, we spoke with the concierge about our restaurant reservations. He wrote down our requests and said to come back after we get settled into our rooms. He then said we were encouraged to take a "tour" of the resort and be shown the new villas and a couple of things we couldn't really understand. We then would be given a $100 credit towards excursions or spa. We know the drill and said no thank you. he insisted and said "Not a timeshare". Ok, still not interested. After 2 more visits back, we were again both times pressured into taking the "not a timeshare" tour. In the end we only received 4 dinner tickets and couldn't get into the steakhouse which was one of our requests. Besides that, there was someone along the main walkway between the lobby and pool/beach who would stop you and try and talk you into the "tour". Really disappointing in that part of the experience. Other than that there were a few other minor complaints we had. we rarely had 2 wash cloths after the staff cleaned our room. We had to hunt them down and request them. We were supposed to have our bed turned down nightly (not a big thing) and was only done once during our entire stay. The last thing was our room phone. Not sure why but it would ring during the night multiple times but only for one ring. When answering, it was just a dial tone. I eventually just unplugged the thing. Now for the good stuff. The workers in the place were very friendly and enjoyed interacting with you. Sometimes trying to teach you a word or 2 of Spanish. The wait staff at the buffet were prompt to get you seated and take care of your drinks and anything else you asked for. Yes, a little tip helps here so a few bucks a day goes a long way. The bartenders at all the bars were great and made exceptional drinks. Nothing was pre-blended. The lady at the pool side restrooms spent her whole day there cleaning them every 10 or 15 min I think, and she done it while singing all day. The beach was real nice, lots of huts for shade but try and get out there at least to see the sunrise and reserve your spot as it can be a little hard to get a good one if you show up too late. However, it really wasn't crowded at all. Same for the pool area. plenty of chairs and not overcrowded at all. Swim up bar was nice. They also have a smaller "quiet" pool just off the beach for those not wanting all the noise. Food was quite good for the most part, even at the buffet. Breakfast was good at the buffet as well. It is worth the short wait to get an omelet made or fried eggs. As long as you are not too picky of an eater, you should have no problem finding something you like. As a group we went to the Mediterranean restaurant one night and no one really liked the food there. takes a different taste pallet then we had I think. The Hibachi was good, the Italian was good and the Jambalaya was good. The shows at night were kind of cheezy but entertaining none the less. Would we go back? Probably. We were there 4 years ago at the Dominica right next door and was a similar experience.

We were very impressed with our stay at this resort & would return again. The food was above our expectations for most southern destinations & we loved the eco friendly efforts of the resort. The staff is very friendly & we got to enjoy the best beach I've ever seen. It really didn't seem very busy even though we were told the resort was full.

We chose this location and hotel for their Fun and Fit program. We attended 2-3 classes per day. Instructors, Samantha, Antonio, and Kelleo were outstanding with every class they instructed. They are very supportive and provide suggestions for alternative exercises if one has limitations. Suggest they consider allowing the upstairs rooms to be used when classes are not held.
