Catalonia Royal Tulum Beach & Spa

During covid, surprising how professional and warm and kind and helpful every single person on staff - remarkably - was. If I owned this hotel, this is the staff I would hope to have. Food and alcohol need to be upgraded a bit from their current level of decent and I would return for this same price. The staff and service, design and layout of the resort are the things that make it.

We really needed a beach getaway and decided upon Catalonia Royal Tulum. We have been to Xpu-Ha beach many times in the past, but it has been at least 10 years since our last visit. We used to frequent Robinson Club and then Club Maeva at the end of the Xpu-Ha beach, but sadly those resorts have been long ago shuttered. If you are looking for a great beach, look no further. The pictures do not do it justice. The whitest sand, clearest water imaginable, no shoes needed for the beach in front of the hotel since it is clear of rocks. I am a runner and was able to run the entire length of the beach (1.1 miles) barefoot. The water at the south end of the bay does have coral close to shore which makes for great and easy snorkeling. There is also a dive shop there. The hotel had superb service and made us feel safe to travel there even in these Covid times. Staff were always masked, and guests were also for the most part except on the beach or when eating. I have seen some reviews questioning the food. Perhaps it was because currently there are no buffets, but we thought the regular restaurants were great. We especially liked the Tuscan and Spanish restaurants. We had a Preferred room upgrade and I think it was worth it. Not only do you get a room in Building 5 or 6 closest to the beach, but you get the use of the restaurant Bloved, which we really enjoyed. For those of you questioning the new travel requirements, this hotel is including a free Covid test for guests who need one to return home.

This is our sixth time to Catalonia Royal Tulum and it’s definitely our home away from home. The staff is incredible and many that have been there on our previous trips...and even remembered us by name. The beach is the best you’ll find in Mexico!

From top to bottom this resort staff is best in the business. At the front desk, Carlos took care of us right off the bat and even got my girlfriend medication from the pharmacy so we wouldn’t have to leave the resort. Manny, their excursion coordinator hooked us up with an excursion that checked all the boxes for us and and took all the stress out of visiting the ruins, cenotes, etc. Adolfo, was the best waiter I could have asked for. He has a phenomenal attitude and makes sure you never see the bottom of your glass. Quetzabel, who runs the breakfast and lunch area was the perfect person to see every morning, her energy is infectious so you always start off by celebrating the day.

Excellent resort with all the needs. Great service, very nice and usable beach, awesome food, and great beverages. We went as a group of 8 and we all agreed. Resort not as full as it maybe would have been due to covid rules, but this may have improved our experience. Never had trouble getting into restaurants, drinks made quickly, and always had a spot at the beach or pool. Hoping to go back soon!
