We Weren't Ready to Leave!

Scott f on Apr 12, 2024

Went with 2 other couples and we had a great time! First, pre-book your transportation to/from the resort, but just know it's going to be expensive because the new Tulum airport is a bit remote. (Still closer than flying into Cancun) We paid $137 to get from the airport to the resort and then $200 to get back to the airport. We should have pre-booked and probably saved $100 or more. Food: a great vacation calls for great food, and Dreams does not disappoint. We went to the World Cafe daily for breakfast and it was always very good. It can get crowded if you wait, so go early and you'll breeze right through. I have never seen such variety! The have something for even your pickiest eater. Lunch was the same, lots of variety, or you can try one of the other cafes that are open. They also have a poolside hamburger stand for a quick lunch without having to leave the fun. Dinners were excellent as well. We went to the Mexican and Italian restaurants twice, and the French place only once (but only because we ran out of days). Never had a bad meal. I have to say, the fried cheese at The Patio has forever changed my idea of 'cheese sticks' and I will be trying to recreate that at home. Staff: everyone was super friendly. When you're walking around the resort and pass a staff member they look you in the eye and greet you. The bartenders, concierge, bell captains, wait staff.....everyone was so nice and welcoming. Grounds/Accomodations: the grounds are beautiful and worth the time to stroll around and take it all in. The rooms are large and the beds were comfortable. Some furnishings did look a little worn and due for replacement, but that absolutely did nothing to negatively impact our stay. The hammock on the balcony was a nice touch! What we would change: we would pick a room a little closer to the dining and beach area. We were in the furthest building back and it took several minutes to walk back to the room. We would also consider the swim-out rooms because nobody was ever in that pool. It would be like having a private pool to yourself. I also wish the resort would consider ways to differentiate the buildings as it took several days to figure out the best route to take back to our building since they all look the same. Final thing: when we checked out I didn't realize my wife had placed her rings in the room safe so I removed our cash and passports and we left. We realized it about the time we got back to our home airport. We called the resort and the housekeeper had already turned the rings in at the front desk. That speaks volumes to me about the beautiful people of Mexico. The resort was also very helpful and assisted us with getting them shipped back. Overall, this is a resort we would visit again because of the great staff, beautiful location, wonderful good, and overall value for the money.

A very relaxing vacation

Sandra C on Apr 12, 2024

The resort itself shows age and really needs updating and repairs, and the layout isn't ideal, with the guest rooms laid out in a line rather than in a C shape, which means that some guests have a LONG walk to the restaurants, pool, and finally, the beach. We were fortunate to have a room near the aforementioned 3, but not a swim-out, which we prefer. We met a family with a room in the last building who had a swim- out but they lamented how long of a walk they had to the amenities. The spa is nice; not at all comparable to Secrets Maroma Beach, but decent. The hydrotherapy circuit is basic. No cold water bucket for use before or between the sauna and steamroom. The sauna is too hot. When I went, I barely made it to 5 minutes. My friend went a second time 2 days later (I couldn't bear to try again) and she said that she was given a wet washcloth to cover her mouth and that helped. We weren't offered that the first time. The 80 minute hot stone massage is wonderful; Nancy did a great job. Pastora did a great HydraCalm facial. The showers and shower products are great. The dinners at El Patio, Bordeaux, and Portofino were memorable in the best way, but SKIP Gohan. The sushi is awful. But what's really made this a great vacation is the STAFF. From Alejandro and Gabriela at the Seaside Grille, to Laura at the pool and beach, and Benito ("Benito Mojito" as he refers to himself) and Salvador serving up the beverages on the Preferred section of the beach, and Jonathan, our super-friendly and personable concierge who went over and beyond for us. THEY are who make Dreams Tulum special!
