As a return customer we knew the staff would be friendly, beach would be great and pool is always good. You never have to worry about finding chairs at the beach or pool, there is always lots. We had paid for preferred suite with extra amenities, and the first room they gave us was like a storage space, broken couch, no lightbulbs in lights, our "ocean view" backed onto the service road (where the trucks rumbled by at 6 am) and our view was an unlandscaped area and brush. With some persistence we were moved to a better room on day two. All of Cuba is suffering from shortages on food, wine, liquor and beer - so the hotel cannot be faulted for shortages in these areas. The evening entertainment was definitely lacking, but we did enjoy the water ballet and the magician.

    First visit not our last.

Just home on Feb 17th after a week here. First time at los cactus and I gotta tell you all we had an amazing time. We have been to Cuba many times before and this place feels like home. I understand why everyone keeps going back. We absolutely will be back next year. Arrived around 1 pm and our room wasn't ready but this can happen anywhere ...front desk staff very helpful in securing our luggage and with directions to the buffet, pool and pool bar... everything we needed to know to start our vacation :) Once checked in we were driven to our building and shown to our room ...A junior suite and it was exactly as advertised ...clean no musty smell at all and air conditioning running. The view from the balcony was breathtaking. The bed was comfortable and the pillows thin ..but again with my past experience in Cuba thats standard ,,,We always vacuum pack and bring pillows with us. The room was cleaned every day as well as clean towels ...no face cloths but this is standard Cuba in my experience. Very pleased with the service. The building we were in housed the disco.Yes we could hear it but it honestly never interfered with our sleep ...the evening shows from the resort next door were louder but always over around 11pm. The buffet was quite extensive with a variety of choices for meat protein(chicken, fish and pork) occasionally beef in a stew and yes there was liver. We predominantly ate chorizo and fish off of the flat top. A number of rice choices from plain white to red beans and rice and black beans and rice. Hot vegetables sweet potatoes on occasion, pumpkin, corn and peas. A great selection of cheeses and cold meats plus a more that acceptable salad bar. Fresh fruit was always available and we took full advantage of it. The bread selection was amazing so i was told ...i'm gluten intolerance. Neither one of us are fussy eaters. I had heard complaints of certain food shortages but i can't comment on them as i can honestly say we always had exactly what we wanted each and every meal. We decided to not experience any of the a-la-carts as we were very pleased with the buffet. The italian restaurant did come highly recommended by people though. I can't comment on the beach grill as we never ate there. Heard some complaints of wine and vodka shortages on occasion but we prefer rum and theres always rum. Drinks were delicious ...cappuccinos we absolutely yummy and after dinner you have to go and see Maybel at the coffee bar for one or two of her speciality coffees. This was a nightly occurrence ... time to sit with new friends and talk and enjoy your evening. The pool as exactly as advertised .... clean cool and very refreshing ..plenty of chaise lounges and if your a shade person then theres numerous spots available. The beach was beautiful and clean ...plenty of chaises plus numerous beds if those are for you ...again lots of places to find shade. Lots of taxis for trips into Varadero $10 CUC each way A double decker bus thats $5 CUC a day hop on and off all day that tours the town is available as well. All the staff were amazing ... front desk, bar, cooks, servers, cleaning people, gardeners etc. They all made our first time here very memorable ... i understand why people keep going back again and again. My only comment about the shortages and the complaints about it are ... people this is Cuba ..shortages happen anywhere.

Just arrived back from a 33 day stay at Los Cactus. We had a wonderful vacation. When going to Cuba, you must learn to be flexible and know that the management does its best to accommodate all guests. The food at breakfast and lunch was good. Eggs omelettes, pancakes, cold cuts, cheese, fresh pastries, yogurt and an assortment of fruit. I was very impressed with the salad bar at lunch containing a large variety of veggies. The bread at the resort is always delicious! At lunch they also served fish, pork chops, chicken and yes the much talked about liver. I don’t know what the fuss was since there were always other options! Cuba day’s food was the best it had been in years and the specialty restaurants were great. There are some supply issues happening now but when the goods are available the hotel provides them. I suggest if there is a certain Vodka or wine you like buy it at duty free to avoid disappointment. To my delight the Duna bar is open with the best bartender Orestes serving everyone with his friendly professionalism. The beach, the sunshine, the safety, this hotel provides it definitely worth a visit. A great value for the money. If you only focus on the negative, you will miss out on all the charm and friendliness of this gem! Maid service was excellent. Leteica our favourite maid always went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Mabel still serving the best special coffees at night. Lizbeth, Tania, Alex,Miguel, Arturo, Rey, I’m sorry I cannot name all the staff who made our stay so special. To all the staff ( our friends) THANK YOU!!!!! We surely will be back!

Be Live Adults Only Los Cactus supplied us with a welcome mid winter vacation. Taking into account the over all cost of this resort I decided to give the experience a 4. It would have been a 5 had it not been for the food situation. The staff here particularly Wilfredo in the buffet and Alfredo in the Cuban restaurant particularly made our stay a wonderful time. The staff here work incredibly hard to ensure your enjoyment. The beach is amazing and our upgraded for $50 ocean view room was large and clean. The resort is well kept and the pool nice and refreshing. When we were there Vodka on the resort was at a premium and they didn’t have any. A quick trip into town and 5 CUC quickly solved the issue with a bottle. If your going pack extra snacks. Although there was always something to eat bring a few snacks is a good idea. The beach grill hot dogs would be recommended by us. The Duna bar is a nice for a mid day drink. The Coffee Bar has a wide and spirited. Nightly entertainment was solid. Remember the world isn’t perfect for $1000 a week including flight. BRING FOOD AND ENJOY A GREAT RESORT!

If you like liver or pork for ever dinner meal, and if they haven't run out of white or red wine. (but you could buy it at their store). They even ran out of Vodka and Rum one day, oh yes you could buy it at their store. The bar tenders would serve you once you got there attention. or if you had a tip in your hand. they wanted a tip for everything, even the cook would shove a dish with tip on it for you to give to him. The room we had had a smell of sewer gas form the bathroom till we covered it with a wet face cloth. wanted to change rooms, but for a fee of 20 cuc each we could up grade.Talk to many of others and they were of the same opinion, they would not be coming back again.
