I was traveling to Cuba during COVID pandemic and I was looking for a decent 5* hotel that had a large territory with low-raise buildings and all amenities widely spread tout o stay on a safer note. The hotel stuff had been taking all proper COVID-protection measures and was very friendly.

We stayed at Valentin El Patriarca for one week. We had a very good experience. All the staff were friendly and helpful and always greeted us with a smile. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the pools were very nice. We will definitely return one day!
Amazing Staff, and tons of potential!

Hello all, my husband and I travelled to this hotel for one week from Dec 19/20-Dec 26/20. We paid more to stay in the "privilege" section (approx $400 CAD each) we were advised by our Air Canada Rep that a few services may not be offered because of Covid but not to worry because most of them are. When we arrived the private reception lady checked us in she was excellent and very professional. The security guard tried sending us away until 4pm even when we told him we had early checkin, not being our first time to Cuba we went to the private office and she checked us in immediately. We received a beautfil suite that overlooked the privilege pool. We had a/c that worked awesome! The bed was comfortable. We quickly realized that a lot of the services we were to receive were not being offered. No drinks topped up in the fridge in our room we got 4 crystal beer the whole week, no turn down service, no luxury amenities in the room, the privelege restaurant was closed, no drink service at the private pool, did not have the privilege import drinks as promised (1 bottle of baileys the whole week. No shuttle service except for chevkin/out. All of us on the privelege side decided to get together and complain. They ended opening up the bar at the private pool 3-4 days into our stay. Which was great. I'm not trying to sound spoiled or entitled in anyway, we just want fellow travellers to ask questions and know exactly what you are paying the upgrade for. On the positive side, staff were awesome, they really want to make sure you have a great time. The following staff really stood out to us for their exceptional customer service: Yandy, Carlos, Jar, Enrique, Marlon, Liety. Rolando (Gardner), Yamica (not sure of spelling), and Ameila. These people really deserve to be recognized for going way above to make our stay so wonderful. Our maid was great too, building 42. Our room was always spotless so thank you! I celebrated a birthday while there and once again the staff especially Yandy and Carlos went over and above to make my birthday a memorable one!! This is our first time at this resort and we will definitely go back mostly because of the staff. When the resort is fully open I can just imagine that it would be even better. When you arrive in Cuba they perform a Covid 19 swab test on everyone. I felt safe the whole time in Cuba. Thanks for a fantastic, safe vacation!!
Still ramping up

My wife and I traveled over Christmas and celebrated her birthday. The resort is still opening the closed privilege area. The private pool is open and bar area. The ranchon restaurant was open. Unfortunately Mike's coffee shop was closed. The hotel is trying hard cleaning and wearing masks, face shields and have hand sanitizer dispensers around the resort at restaurants and bars. There were approximately 125 guests at the hotel. For the most part management was prepared with acceptable food and drink selections were adequate except the hotel had 1 bottle of bailey's per week. Yandy and Carlos from the entertainment staff definitely go above and beyond to make the guests as happy as possible. The bar staff, Enrique and Jar were friendly and quick to serve. We were happy with our stay and would love to come back soon. We felt safe and were glad we chose this location. A couple things to mention is the Cuban currency is in a crisis. Inflation is running high and everyone wants the foreign currency. The hotel could improve by providing the staff with name tags.
